A small community in Florida is taking a proactive approach to climate resilience by elevating homes and improving flood management systems. This highlights how community-driven initiatives and local government cooperation have created a model for adapting to rising sea levels and frequent storms. It also emphasizes the importance of local-level planning in enhancing resilience, particularly in vulnerable communities.

https://nextcity.org/urbanist-news/what-we-can-learn-from-one-florida-community-about-climate-resilience

---

How did I feel? What did I learn? How does this affect me?

At the end of this article, I learned about how small-scale, community-led initiatives can be effective in creating resilience at the local level. This idea made me feel really hopeful for the future especially since the recent presidential inauguration took place. It also made me feel as though solutions seem highly effective and adaptable, but funding and scale remain key challenges. This has a huge affect on me as this is a field I would like to delve more deeply into.Specifically, promoting the power of local action to drive broader change in climate resilience.

This article discusses the importance of integrating climate resilience into housing strategies. It emphasizes how cities can develop affordable and resilient housing to protect vulnerable communities from the impacts of climate change, such as flooding and heat waves while highlighting urban planning solutions that promote both sustainability and affordability, focusing on policy adjustments and design changes that can make housing more adaptive to climate risks.

https://time.com/7201305/housing-frontline-climate-change/

---

How did I feel? What did I learn? How does this affect me?

At the end of the article, I learned that the interconnectedness of housing and climate resilience is crucial for protecting low-income communities from the everchanging effects of a natural disaster before, during and after. I feel as though this is true as someone who comes from a similar background, I definitely feel as though these strategies are necessary for tackling both the housing crisis and climate vulnerability simultaneously and has an impact on me as someone who is interested in ensuring that climate change solutions are equitable and consider the needs of all community members.

Bloomberg: Singapore Is Attempting a Radical Green Transformation

This article explains the ways Singapore is transforming its urban environment with radical green initiatives. The city-state is implementing green roofs, vertical gardens, and energy-efficient designs to meet its sustainability goals. These measures aim to reduce the urban heat island effect, improve air quality, and provide long-term climate adaptation solutions for densely populated areas. The city also promotes biodiversity through its green infrastructure, which helps manage extreme weather events linked to climate change.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-11-15/singapore-is-attempting-a-radical-green-transformation?embedded-checkout=true

---

How did I feel? What did I learn? How does this affect me?

At the end of this article, I learned about radical transformations and their relationship with addressing climate resilience in urban spaces, even in highly developed cities like Singapore. I felt inspired by the way Singapore is trying to add more green spaces to help make improvements to air quality and urban heat islands. I feel like this affects me as someone from an urban heat island that lacks trees and ample green spaces to allocate some of the heat my city gets, especially during the summer, when it definitely could benefit from this style of planning.

All three articles focus on climate resilience, but they approach it from different angles. The Singapore article emphasizes radical green infrastructure and urban innovation on a national scale, whereas the Florida article focuses on community-driven, localized solutions. The PLANetizen article explores the intersection of affordable housing and climate resilience, advocating for policy-driven approaches. I personally thought that the Singapore article provided the most thorough and visionary approach to green transformation in cities, which can be inspirational for other urban areas seeking to adapt to climate change.
