Common Core Not That Common

It is pretty obvious that there are unrealistic standards trying to be imposed upon the educational system in present-day America. The government has intervened and basically bribed schools to adopt THEIR ill-advised policies. These policies are broad and do not take into account certain factors. This is shameful because it encourages the standardized testing of students and therefore makes everyone into a group of sheep. Each group must do well, or the school district suffers. This form of mass punishment is detrimental. By firing or punishing educators who fail to reach untealistic demands, we are shooting ourselves in the foot, as a society.

The article states that the program was rushed. It also states that common core makes standardized testing the main focus and most time is spent on preparing for those tests. Students with disabilities are lett out of the plan because it does not include an area for them. A new education program needs to be thought out to include all types of students, and presented so that testing is not the main focus. I believe that tests should not be the main point of the class, but homework and learning the material should be.

Common core is almost everything that is wrong with our education system today. I loved where the article stated that CC was another failure in putting actual effort into our system! Which is exactly that. The whole NCLB along with the curriculum and testing they put kids through is exactly that, a lack of effort by everyone.

Reply to rushed program:
This is exactly right, our education system right now is based off a performance mind set rather than a mastery mind set. We run Our students through like cattle. Treating everyone the same and all take the same kind of tests, oh besides students not able to take tests I guess forget about them? What!,

I agree with you that this is an issue. Just stating that no child left behind does not help the students. Then students are just passed along from teacher to teacher and. Ever learn anything.
