Apprentices learned from more experienced shoemakers. They received easier jobs. They worked with skilled masters. They worked until they were at least 21 years old with their master. After that, they became journeymen.

Journeymen were good at working but not as good as Master craftsmen. They knew how to do it don’t own a shop of their own. Sometimes hired by Master craftsmen.

Master craftsmen often hired apprentices. They owned shops of their own. Most were very skilled at trading. Sometimes hired some journeymen to take their place.
