Something I have never done is have the students keep a list of spelling strategies that they have learned throughout the year. This strategy will allow the students to go back and check past skills when revising and editing.

The progress of students increased when using word sorts in an experiment, opposed to those that did not study with word sorts.

One way is to use it for motivation and another way is to use it to allow students to focus more on other facets of writing.

Students providing positive feedback vastly outweighs those with negative feedback. If student with disbilities can feel safe to write out words without worrying about spelling them wrong, then all students should thrive.
