         <description><![CDATA[<p>The United States imposed sanctions in the 1950s and tightened them further after international bombings against South Korea by North Korean agents during the 1980s, including the Rangoon bombing and the bombing of Korean Air Flight 858.</p><p><br></p><p>In response to the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation and the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, some governments and international organizations, led by the United States and European Union, imposed sanctions on Russian individuals and businesses.</p><p><br></p><p>&nbsp;€300 billion of Russian Central Bank reserves are blocked in the EU, other G7 countries and Australia (two thirds of which are blocked in the EU)</p>]]></description>

Sanctions were once intended to target the elites by prohibiting commerce in minerals and products related to armaments, but they later spread to luxury items as well.</p><p><br></p><p>the UN resolutions target top export industries, preventing North Korea from bringing in external revenue that could be used for the country and its people</p>]]></description>

Kennedy proclaimed an embargo on trade between the United States and Cuba</p><p><br></p><p>It banned all trade and financial transactions with the island unless licensed by the Treasury Department subject to detailed regulations contained today in the 56-page Cuban Assets Control Regulations</p><p><br></p><p>This embargo built on the precedent set by President Eisenhower who cut off U.S. exports to the island, except for food and medicine. President Johnson then expanded the embargo’s reach through a multilateral policy of economic denial in 1964, which severely inhibited Cuba’s efforts to foster economic relations with other countries</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>]]></description>
