        According to R. Buckminster Fuller, “Human is acquiring all the right technology for all the wrong reasons”.  Mrs. Sherry Turckle a psychologist who shared her  perspective on technology and how it shapes our behavior in the year 2012 and until now we can see it occurring in the Status quo. Technology affects our social interactions towards others and changes our behavior. Because of technology, we are tempted by machines that offer companionship, we expect more from technology and less from each other, and technology appeals to us most when we are vulnerable.

        First of all, we are tempted by machines that offer Companionship. I agree with what Mrs. Turckle, for the reason that technology had advanced rapidly in the past years and has given us the ability to interact with it in a high level. A great example of this would be the software SIRI(Speech Interpretation and Recognition Interface) which is a virtual assistant that is part of Apple’s Operating System. SIRI was mentioned in the discussion of Mrs. Turckle and emphasized that “no one is listening” to us humans and that we tend to lean on technology for comfort. Secondly, we expect more from technology and less from each other. With this, I acknowledge what Mrs. Turckle had said, for the reason that technology have provided us different benefits and as stated in the article of Advergize Company on the “9 Advantages of technology for modern life” there are numerous convenience and improvement  of technology in the current times which are the following: saves time, ease of mobility, better communication means, cost efficiency, innovation in many fields like science, agriculture and economics, improved banking, best selling techniques, disables are treated and lastly artificial intelligence improving our way of living. But becoming too reliable on technology has also bad effects according to an article entitled, “Health and Technology” wherein technology causes psychological issues such as distraction and depression. Additionally it can also lead to negative percussion on physical health causing vision problems, hearing loss and neck pains. And lastly technology appeals to us most when we are vulnerable. Technology is everywhere or simply ubiquitous making it hard to avoid.  And as stated by Turckle in the beginning of her speech “ It(technology) let us go to places that we do not want to go”. For example instead of going out with friends you would rather spend your time alone playing mobile games. With that being said technology had become a big factor on how we spend time, thus affecting our day to day activities and how we interact with others and we look at technology as a place of escaping reality and results in becoming lonely. 

       Therefore technology affects our social interactions towards others and changes our behavior. We are living in a world were technology is slowly replacing human affections, because we are allured by machines that offers companionship. We depend on the advancement of technology that we tend to forget the people  and with that we expect more from technology and less from others. Having more connection towards technology, we tend to be alone thus making as vulnerable.  Technology is a significant part of the community and it is up to us to make use of technology for the betterment of the community. With that being said technology is a powerful tool that can change our perception and the world that we live in and as Spiderman had said "With great power comes with great responsibility."
