Even though  the Dr was unfamiliar with the cause of the patient's condition they could have directed his words with more compassion?
Nurses sound like they were assisting the patient to calm down, keep stress levels low and trying not to panic the patient.

If the doctors used language differently to deliver bad news, would that have affected how the nurses delivered care because perhaps the patient may have reacted differently? It is a difficult balancing act, especially in a context where everyone involved in the patient's care  is scared because of the unknown with a relatively new disease. Communication and compassion goes together. we cannot communicate, listen, and pay attention to patient needs if there is no compassion.
