On this week of orientation, i began with a rocky start, as i was coming off of this summer's holiday, I was getting use to my free time. When i started to look over the course guides and assessments I started to feel very overwhelmed. I viewed all the activities and felt like giving up. However, i took it one step at a time and took the activities day by day as it was set up for us, and it felt easier every time as there were many forums to engage in that gave me a better understanding of what to expect throughout this course.

I now feel much better about giving this course a try and even made one or two friends since the start of the week and hope to make many more along the way. r I also learned about by learning style which is the multimodal learning style, which i feel will help me to learn the process of research methods.

This week's Unit has allowed me to gain more knowledge of what research is all about, it's philosophy and it's ethics. Although we have all heard and conducted little researches of our own before, we never fully learned the proper ethics of the process of conducting a research. As discussed in Unit 1, research is basically what helps us to collect data and turn it into information, results, or to "establish facts". According to Unit 1 readings on Research Philosophy, when you are conducting a research ,you are engaging in a process of knowledge development, which i completely agree with and never realized or thought of research in this way until now.
In our discussion on Research Ethics, i was able to place myself into a researcher's shoes and think about the scenario that was given to us, as we had to decide right from wrong in a situation and what was the most ethical thing to do. This had put my mind into practice to realize that Ethics play an important role in conducting researches. Researches involve real people most of the time, and as a researcher i would hate to risk someone's life due to making unethical decisions.

On this week's episode of Research Methods, my classmates and I were all introduced to the topic, Research Process. To be honest, before reading Unit 2, I was all over the place when I thought about our assignments that we will be doing over the weeks of this course.
After reading Unit 2, I had a much clearer vision of what was being ask of us. I understood the necessary steps to take when preparing a research, as it is important to identify and define our research problem first before taking any other step, with this way, we know how to carry on with our research topic.
We were also exposed to literature reviews as this is also an important part of a research process because it helps us to understand and to give us a clear vision of why our research is important to us and how to win over a proposal. Taking these necessary steps to prepare a research can help to build the confidence in presenting our information.

This makes week 4 on our journey to learning Research methods. It was all about motivation for me this week. I am now feeling the pressure with not only this course, but with the others as well, as we go further into the semester.
The topic introduced this week was about communication in the research process, which means to me, the execution used through research proposals and of how we bring forth our plan to research. I had also learned the difference between a research proposal and a research report. The proposal which should be written in the future tense and the report in the past tense, this stood out to me as it gave me a better understand of a research format and how to execute it.

This week was an important week, for this is the week we learned about qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods of research. Learning about the type of research we want to conduct can really help in the process of writing and conducting our research project. We explored the qualitative method and how it is based on narrative data. The quantitative method is based on numerical and the mixed method is where both are combined to study a problem.
Next we also viewed the importance of conceptualization and measurement. I find this topic to be very useful in conducting my own research as it will be discussing about job satisfaction and how it affects the business. Learning about measurement in particular will help to guide me on how to plan my research, because at first I was puzzled on how to research on someone;s behavior, however after reading on the unit for this week, it gave me a broader look on how to apply this method.
Overall this week was very intense for me personally, due to the planning of our research proposal and the many readings we had to conduct to fully understand what we are doing.

Reflection Week 6 - Data Collection

This week's Unit 5, discussed about two types of data that are available for any researcher to help them gather information for their project. The two types of data taught was primary and secondary. From what I understand from primary data collection, is that it is based off original data, which means that the data was originally studied by the researcher's own point of view and in his own efforts to conduct the study personally.
On the other hand, there is secondary data, which means that it is based off studies done by other researchers that can be used additionally as empirical studies to add to your own. I find the secondary data would be more helpful in this course because as an advantage, it is less time consuming that primary. During this course we need all the time we can get as we do not have long to conduct a full research of our own for our proposals. However, I am concerned to find valuable data for my own research as it is one of the many disadvantages of secondary data, where as it may be outdated or incomplete. This is why primary is also important as it is based off your own evidence and observations which helps to make you paper worthy with quality.

I felt like I learned a lot when getting prepared to present on a research in particular and what process you must take to keep the objective of the paper.
I feel that next time I will know what to expect and what is expected of me,,, which will make it an easier process to accomplish my work.

Reflection Week 9- Questionnaire Design

Based on this week's unit readings on questionnaire design, I was introduced to the basic steps on how to construct a questionnaire with three modes; communicating with respondents; principles, techniques and requirements for designing questionnaires and errors that the researchers should avoid when designing questionnaires.
When communicating with respondents we must keep in mind that there are two ways we can administer this media. The first being Interviewer-Administered Modes which means we can conduct questionnaires through telephones, or face to face interviews. The second being Self-Administered Modes where we can also conduct through mail or online so that the respondents can complete the questionnaire by his pr herself.
Looking at the requirements of the design of the questionnaire, i learned that It is important to construct the questionnaire in a way that allows for the

collection of data to be both

relevant and accurate in regard to what we want to know. I also learned that it is important to keep questions in sequence and in a specific layout so as to avoid high non response rates that impact the accuracy of our data collection.
We also looked at errors and how to minimize them when conducting a questionnaire. The more we try to reduce certain errors such as interviewer and respondent error the better our questionnaire design can be as it is important to test these questionnaires which can reveal other errors that may occur.

For this topic, I examined the terms data analysis and coding. Data analysis is basically using our raw data, in which we collect by using the various models of research, and editing out data into usable data. To my knowledge, the data we collect can include several errors, and so we try to minimize the errors by editing our data before we present for decision making. As for coding data, what ever usable date we have, codes can be assigned for further analysis such as numbers or phrases to be entered into a computer software so that data can be easily grouped into categories. Data can be further analyzed by using a code book which is used more accurate data entry.
In addition to this week's topic, i got to read about data dictionary. This is the first time learning of this term. It is a collection of descriptions of the data objects or items in a database so that if there is any confusion about the data the data dictionary is used to clarify. This topic explained the importance of data and how we use it so that errors can be prevented through editing. I also learned that data preparation can be difficult if not analyzed well and display appropriately through visual aids such as bar charts and so on.

.

Week 10 we had looked at Data and how to prepare it for analysis. This week explains how to examine the analysis of data, as there are two ways of conducting analysis, qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Qualitative analysis is using non numerical interpretations and observations to find relationships between data. This helps in the process of noticing things, collecting things and thinking about things. On the other hand, there is Quantitative analysis, which is used to convert the data into numerical form that can be useful to present statistics or numerical data.
As we reach the final weeks of this course, I can say that these information proved useful in order to conduct a good research paper.
