The Ukrainian famine was a Human Cost of Totalitarian Regimes in Soviet Russia. It was a political and economic event that happened because of the policies implemented by Joseph Stalin, who was the leader of the Soviet Union.

The famine began when Stalin decided to collectivize farming, which meant that all farms were owned by the government. This meant that farmers could not sell their crops at market prices and had to give them away at low prices or even for free if they wanted to survive. This caused starvation among many rural areas and led to thousands of deaths.

The initial plan for the Gulag was to build a system where people could be punished for various crimes against the state, but it quickly became much more than that. People who were imprisoned in the Gulag camps were forced to work long hours in harsh conditions and received little or no food or water. Many died from disease and malnutrition, while others committed suicide by hanging themselves with their bed sheets or jumping out of windows.
