Instead, our school will provide Chinese curriculum courses to IBDP students, and all students will be required to take Provincial Graduation Exam to be awarded a Chinese High School Graduation Certificate. If a full DP candidate does not receive the IB diploma, he/she could still be graduate from our school and go to study at a university.

They should search for the information about what is required to get into the desired programs, then counsellor will work with students to determine the course selection in grade 11 and 12 to fulfill the specific course prerequisites for their desired programs. Counsellor and student will also need to consider the interests and strength of the student to determine which courses he/she should take.

One thing I want to mention is that student needs consider the classes available and if they meet the minimum requirements for certain academic majors. Some programs or majors require specific courses, such as biology, which is not offered in our IB DP program. Student should consult with counselor to discuss the way to remedy this, such as select AP biology course and take the AP test, but need to check the course schedule to make sure you could study it concurrently with IB courses.

Student and the parents need to consider the strength of the student, the career plans, the entry requirement of the desired universities and programs, as well as the subject availability in our school to determine which program to pursue, IB DP or AP.

Since many students do not have a clear perspective about themselves and do not know much about the career pathways available for them, counsellors will work closely with individual student and parents during grade 10 to help them have a deep understanding of potential careers that correspond with the student’s interests. Also counselor will work with subject teachers to figure out whether the student is fit for the demanding program.
