1) I think that society should be very supportive of youths nowadays, support them in tough decisions, telling them what’s wrong and correcting them when they make mistakes, respect them just as how they respect us, and be very accepting of them.

2) I think that some parts of my adolescents are similar to what the text says, we gave two respects our elderlys, before we eat we have to tell them to eat, we have to always greet them, we have to help them and make them proud.

3)I think that present day adolescents are indeed much more fortunate than previous adolescents, like the ones discussed in the first two passages at that time they didn’t have technology to help us, and with wars at the time times were tough for them as they had to adapt very quickly, we however have a lot of time to focus on studies and eventually become working adults.

This time gives them additional chances to explore and develop their passions and interests in many different fields, providing them a more well-rounded perspective on the different fields of work in our society to allow them to make a better decision on their future career paths.

Society plays a pivotal role in supporting and nurturing young people during their adolescence. One crucial aspect is providing a comprehensive educational framework that not only imparts knowledge but also fosters critical thinking and creativity. Guidance counselors and mentorship programs can assist adolescents in navigating the complexities of career choices and personal development.

I think adolescents have the choice to turn rebellious against systems or people in society or choose to be an obedient child while having no say in anything in society. While it is possible to balance the two, different teenagers with different backgrounds tend to lean towards either side.

Challenges may include having to deal with real world problems while learning to adjust to adulthood. Different challenges would require different skills to overcome and learning these skills would prove to be useful in the future. Opportunities could come in different forms, be it leadership and directing, or experiencing new feelings or things which would let them have a new sense of identity in society.

Society should encourage youths to constantly be a better version of themselves and teach them about basic values such as respect and taking responsibility for their actions. Youths are shaped in accordance to how their society is built and the values that they believe in so it is important that society has to right values and can provide a safe space for youths to make mistakes.

2. I think that my adolescence is similar as the older generation normally protect the younger people from the harsh reality. One such example is my parents who constantly make sure that i feel safe and make sure that i’m ok.

3. Some challenges that adolescence are facing is that most of them are not able to afford their own houses even after coming of age thus, they stay with their parents. However, this is an opportunity for them to succeed as they can focus on their careers and or education without having to worry about finding a place to stay.

1. I think society plays a big role in nurturing young peoples’ adolescence, being one of the prime role models for the coming teenagers. Teenagers spend many hours on the internet, and the values that the society show are extremely important in being examples the teenagers will follow.

2. I think many of us face challenges with adolescence, one such example would be us taking up a bigger workload as we get older, not just in academics but including getting a job, and joining the workspace.

3. Some opportunities that youths receive with their extended adolescence might be there newfound freedom, and some might struggle without knowing how to use it. Especially after joining the workspace and having their own salary, many young people struggle with managing their finances. This is just one of the many opportunities the youths get with their extended adolescence

1. Adolescent development thrives with society's focus on education, life skills, and mental health support. Quality education fosters critical thinking, while mental health awareness reduces stigma, ensuring vital support. Safe environments and positive influences, including role models, shape values crucial for well-being. Prioritizing these pillars ensures a resilient generation ready to navigate adulthood's challenges. Society's commitment to these essentials is paramount for comprehensive adolescent growth.

2. Sometimes I do feel a bit lonely and I have mood swings which is said to be very common amongst teenagers going through adolescence.

3. Extended adolescence brings both challenges and opportunities. On the challenging side, prolonged educational pursuits and delayed entry into the workforce can lead to heightened academic pressure and financial stress. The delay in achieving traditional markers of adulthood, such as marriage and homeownership, may contribute to a sense of uncertainty and societal expectations. However, this extended period also offers opportunities for personal exploration, skill development, and self-discovery. Young people can leverage this time to pursue diverse interests, engage in lifelong learning, and contribute to social causes. Embracing the flexibility of extended adolescence allows individuals to navigate their unique paths and cultivate a more holistic sense of self.

Furthermore, apart from keeping them under check, society should embrace the different choices the adolescence make, such as their career choices. Society should not suppress the adolescence.

Especially due to the fact that I grew up in a Chinese household, respect for my elders and filial piety were rather important values, just like in the article.

I believe that the adolescence now have it much easier than the adolescence then due the abundance of resources available now. However, this also has its downsides. For example adolescence now are less prepared or for the real world due to them living comfortably. They are less accustomed to the challenges posed to them by the world and as such may face difficulty in assimilating with the society.

1) Society should support adolescents in their passions and independent decisions; this would in turn allow them to make better, more informed and experiential decisions about their future.

2) My adolescence has been much like that of most teenagers today. As given in the article, I am not required to work or carry out other actions of an early adulthood, but am instead given freedom to learn and gradually ease into my perception of an ideal future for myself.

3)In my opinion, the opportunities for adolescents today outweigh the challenges. Although teenagers are required to receive much higher education and are much more uncertain about their futures in a rapidly urbanising world, it is all outweighed by their access to multiple pieces of information that are easily available over the internet as well as their freedom to explore areas of interest without the burden of having to work early or have other adult commitments.

1. Society should be more forgiving to young people during adolescence, and be supportive of decisions that they make. They should not be quick to judge or harshly criticise young people, but understand that (from research), adolescents have not grown fully, thus may still need guidance from adults.
2. During the COVID lockdown, I felt very stressed due to less contact with teachers and friends. It became more difficult to learn through a computer screen as compared to in the classroom. It was also hard to clarify and queries I had, thus making me more stressed.
3. People have more time to correct their mistakes that they make as they are generally still in a more sheltered period of their lives with extended adolescence. They have more time to explore the world and see new things, which give them advantages over their older counterparts to be more caring and empathetic towards others and learn from people from elsewhere.

1. Society should help expand and nurture young people’s knowledge as well as life skills during their adolescence in order to better prepare them for adulthood. Moreover, society should provide ample opportunities as well as financial support in order to allow young people to utilise their adolescence to explore new pathways and find out what kind of direction they want to take.
2. I think they are a few aspects of my adolescence that I can relate to in the article. For example, the article mentions how teenagers nowadays require a much slower transition into adulthood as opposed to teens of the past. I know that as a teenager, they are certain areas which I can still improve on such as knowledge and maturity.
3. Some opportunities could be that youths nowadays get a much more prolonged timeframe to pick up important life skills as well as having more time to search for opportunities together with pursuing their hobbies and passions. Some challenges could be that teenagers could become complacent with their extended adolescence and may not be fully matured by the time they reach adulthood.

1) In the past, society has played an important role in importing technical skills about handiwork to adolescents. However, in our modern society, teenagers should be encouraged to “chase their dreams”, in which they should pursue whatever interests them. Examples may include activities like football or rugby, academic subjects like biology, or even more professional things like business management. This just what our society needs to do to bring up our new age of teenagers

2)I believe that as a teenager myself, I have experienced things similar to my “peers” in the past, like rebellion against our parents. However, I feel that compared to them, I am much better equipped with modern life skills, like public speaking and project planning. This just shows how much times has changed, and society has to continue developing to nurture our new teenagers.

3) With increased adolescence, I believe that they will be able to enjoy a prolonged period of youth. They will have more time to do things they enjoy, and since they are at their peak in physical health, adolescents will be able to experience unique activites that their peers in the past could only dream of. This could be dangerous activities that include rock climbing or caving. This just tells us the many opportunities that comes with extended adolescence. However, with its pros, it also comes with its cons. The older generation might regard adolescents these days as immature or irresponsible. However, it’s truly up to your own perspective whether you agree or not.

1. I think that society should pass on proper values such as respect and responsibility to young people during their adolescence. These values will stay with them throughout their lives and help them to better themselves. They should also be supportive and encourage more interactions between parents and children’s so that they will have deeper bonds.
2. Just like many other teens, during my adolescence I often feel stressed and overwhelmed by work, so I think that us youths should provide help and support like in the articles to others in need so that we can reduce stress and pressure placed on youths.
3. Youths in this era are much more fortunate in my opinion and also have many more opportunities. With how far technology has advanced, youths can use these resources to be more innovative and get more knowledge as compared to the past where youths as young as 7 years old had to work. Although there are opportunities they come with challenges as well. Education is very important in our society as such, many youths will feel stressed and pressured to do well due to their parents or their own expectations. However, education will greatly benefit to one’s job in their adulthood presenting them with more job opportunities whereas education the past could not provide many careers.

Society should instil the right values within young people, as well as provide advice through experience in order to guide young people onto the right path growing up. Additionally, they should also be open to the ideas and aspirations of a young person, not sticking too firmly to traditions and societies’ own ideas, allowing for young people to develop in more areas.

The article discussed about how it is absurd to expect teenagers to make so many important decisions concerning their future so early on, and this is highly relatable. A great example is selection of subject combination in secondary 2. The subjects we take might affect out future options, thus making this an incredibly important decision we have to make, yet at the age of 14, we have barely experienced the world, much less know what we want, so it is quite absurd for this choice to be imposed on us so early.

Extended adolescence brings about the challenge of requiring support. As one is still discovering about oneself, support is crucial, be it mentally or financially. And yet such support is not easy to come by, due to many reasons, such as financial or family problems. As the article stated, adolescence can last until 25 years old, and since society sees an individual as an adult at around the age of 20, this makes it hard for them to receive the proper support they need. However, this extended adolescence could also bring about more opportunities to discover oneself, finding out what one wants and giving more time to work towards their goals.

1. I strongly believe that society should play a more emotionally supporting roles to teenagers. Teenagers nowadays require more time and effort to be bought up, so society should focus on providing more emotional support for them

2. As a person who is an adolescent, I have many things to say, as I personally believe I am quite similar to teenagers in the past. For example, we both like to do things we like and rebel against our parents. However, I believe that I am also rather different from them, as I believe I am more well equipped with important values like respecting our friends and family, responsibility in our work and dilligence. This might have been due to teenagers these days being more educated.

3. Opportunities include adolescents being able to do and enjoy things the enjoy, and prepare themselves for mentally and physically before they become proper adults. However, there are challenges as well. Adolescents might take this extended opportunity for granted, and demand for more time where they don’t need to worry about work, and can be carefree.

1. I think society should provide a safe and comfortable environment which encompasses many opportunities for teenagers to take up and attempt such as job offers (eg internships) as well as things like CCAs. This way, teenagers would be able to learn from their mistakes and improve, whilst finding out what they are good at. Thus, they would be able to pursue their interests and do things they like or are good at. Adults, such as the young person’s parents, should also be supportive and offer advice at times of need. There will be times where the young people fail but instead of criticising their mistakes, society should not judge them based on their mistakes but be supportive through the whole process. Values would also be instilled into young people through this process and teachings by adults.
2. I certainly think that experiences in my life as a teenager relate to some of the concepts discussed in both articles. In worksheet 4 and 5, they talked about how as time passed, teenagers had more opportunity to try out many different things in life before settling down on one thing in their late 20s. Personally, I have also been gifted many opportunities such as leadership positions and also my CCA, which allowed me to learn more things and pick up more skills.
3. The first challenge that young people face with the extended adolescence is delayed independence. As adolescence is extended, it oftentimes means that they are not exposed to the harshness of the adult world until later in life. Thus they have less time to adapt to adult problems like financial problems or household chores, therefore complaining more and may need their parents to intervene. Another challenge that young people face are mental health issues. With the extended adolescence, young people now have less people to talk to and rely on as they mature slower. Their minds are also not as developed as adults hence they take longer to adapt and are more affected by troubles, hence leading to mental issues. However, many opportunities arise from extended adolescence too. Young people now have subsidised learning and can learn more as they have more time and resources are also more advanced. Since adolescence is extended, they also have more opportunities to explore and find out what they are passionate about before stepping into the real world and taking up a job. They can also gain entrepreneurial experience, hence allowing them to establish a business better.

1) I think the society should play as a mentor, a pathfinder for the youth during their adolescence. The society should teach the young people about how to realise their full potential, and nurture them to become the hope of a better age through providing them with the opportunities and lessons that are crucial for them to choose their path that determines their future.

2) I believe that similar to what the text mentioned, adolescents are taking increasingly longer in the transition from adolescences into adults. In our school, students are not getting as matured even in the upper secondary as compared to the previous batches. This perhaps shows that young people nowadays are spending more time in their adolescence phase trying to stay away from the adult world as long as possible as they feel ‘unsafe’ to be an adult.

3) Young people are able to get more time to try out opportunities provided by institutions such as universities freely. Such that they can be more prepared to enter the true adult world and the society. However, challenges the young people might face include not being able to take up the responsibilities that the society assigns to them when it considers them as an adult, eg. when people turns 18 and have to pay taxes. This requires a lot of guidance from the parents which can be a burden for them.

Firstly, society has to ensure that young people have ingrained fundemental values and attitudes into their everyday life, such as respect, responsibility and fortitude. This can be done by parents and teachers not only reminding adolescents to constantly use these values, but also setting themselves up as good role models for adolescents to learn from and follow. During this period, young people are susceptible and vulnerable to peer influence and behaviour they observe on social media, so it is up to parents and teachers to help set them on the right track. Secondly, society should not treat adolescents as naive, but instead allow adolescents to express their views on different subjects and aspects of the world, and treat their views as valuable and important. Doing this from a young age will help adolescents feel more confident in and more open about their views, prompting them to take action about them with their peers when they gain the necessary abilities and resources to do so. Doing this will allow society to continue innovating and improving further down the road.

When I was younger, my grandparents were not very fond of digital devices, labelling them as "too complicated" and "just for gaming". Thus, my siblings and I, aware of how digital devices could help widen our grandparents' knowledge of current affairs and events around the world, as well as improve communication, decided to teach them how to utilise digital devices. Through this, we not only grew closer with them, but they also became more proficient in using the devices for their own interests.

A challenge is that many young people are still overly dependent on their parents and find it very difficult to be more independent in terms of income and basic needs. Thus, they continue to rely on their parents for shelter and money, which holds them back from being able to further develop their responsibility. However, during this period, adolescents are also able to explore different careers and find what they are more capable of and enjoy more, while still having a safety net in the form of their parents' income. Thus, this allows them to transition better into whatever careers they decide on and gives them more experience and insight into the different careers, benefitting them in the long run.

Society should be supportive and caring for young people who are in the midst of transitioning to adults. In this circumstance, society shouldn’t amount the pressure of directly transitioning from school to workplace immediately on teenagers. Society should also allow them the opportunity and time to think about their desired future across various aspects such as career/ambition and interpersonal relationships without imposing overwhelming expectations from them. However, society also should not be overly protective of teenagers to the point where teenagers are completely blind sighted from the harsh reality of life. Thus, society has to provide guidance and instil moral values and virtues such as respect in teenagers from a young age.

I believe my parents were quite protective and sheltering throughout my upbringing/ teenage years, insulating me from the harsh reality of society, but I understand that sooner or later I would have to step out of this comfort zone and venture into the world by myself. Thus, I have to equip myself with maturity and discernment.

In my opinion, extended adolescence provide various opportunities for the younger generation to contemplate on the direction of life they desire to take, and this is of utmost importance because such decisions will permenantly alter the lives of young people. Extended adolescence provides teenagers a break from the immediate transition from school to the workplace, allowing them to spend this time to discover their interest and passions and weigh the various advantages and disadvantages as to whether pursuing it is worth it. This will lead to teenagers being sure of their career paths and subsequently achieve greater success in it.
