In this strategy, teachers provide text or text and images in the form of comic strips, out of order, and they have to put them in the correct order. This strategy could use to split students into groups and have them collaborate with each other in putting the event(s) in order. I could use this in my classroom when we are talking about different events and have them put what happened during those events in order. I think this would be useful or work better in science and social studies.

It is used to model fluent reading for students. The teacher selects a short piece of text related to the unit they are studying and reads it aloud prosody and without stopping to share their ideas. This strategy could be used to help students read with feeling and hear the difference between robotic reading and reading with feeling. I could use this in my classroom when we are reading a book that goes along with what I am teaching. I think this would work better in English and Social Studies.

Two Truths and a Lie

It is commonly used as an icebreaker and works great with students who don't know a lot about each other. The teacher will start out by modeling the activity by writing down two true facts and lie about themselves and ask the students which one they think is the lie. I can use this in my classroom at the beginning of the year to help the students get to know one another. This can be used in any subject because you can use it when talking about different topics and want to test the students' knowledge about those topics.

K-W-L Chart

K-W-L charts are what you know, what you want to learn, and what you have learned. It can be used to introduce new lessons and in ongoing classroom use, as students organize newly learned information and connect it to what they already know. I can use this when I introduce new topics and to see what prior knowledge they have about the topic and what they took away from the lesson. I think this would work best in Science and Social Studies.

The process of this writing frame is answering the question, back it up with evidence, and comment or connect. You will fill in the different parts of the writing frame then make it into a paragraph. I can use this strategy when giving them a research question for a project. This would work better in Social Studies and English.

When talking about a topic, you would show three different photos related to the topics. You would then have the different small student groups pick one of the three pictures to fill out an image analysis of. I would use this strategy before starting a new book in class and when talking about different historical topics. This would work better in English and Social Studies.

Graphic Organizers are visual scaffolds that help clarify concepts. I could use this in my classroom when reading a book that may be hard to follow along with, when talking about important historical events, and when talking about different science topic, like the parts of the body. This would work best in English, Social Studies, and Science.

Visual supports function as accommodations that increase comprehension during instruction. I can use this strategy in my classroom by showing videos about the topic we are discussing and giving them different pictures to label, for example, labeling the different bones and/or part of the body. This would work best in Social Studies and Science.

Structured conversations are partner or group talking opportunities. It is similar to the "turn and talk" method, but the teachers will clarify what students will do and discuss, which sets them up for success. I can use this in my classroom by having the different groups discuss specific parts or event of a book and different things about a historical event. This would work best in English and Social Studies.
