Dr. Ximena used four different senses. First, a sense of hearing to hear the noises from the whales and fish. She also used her sense of sight to identify and locate the fishes. Next, she used her sense of touch to observe the corals, and lastly, she used a sense of smell when she was out of water. While Dr. Reynaldo used a sense of sight to observe different plants and animals. He even used his sense of smell to be aware of his surroundings. As researchers and scientists, Dr. Ximena and Dr. Reynaldo need tools and materials to record all the events and important information. For example, Dr. Ximena used a machine to record the sounds. She also used a camera and drone to record all the species under the sea. On the other hand, Dr. Reynaldo used a magnifying glass to observe plants, especially their tiny particles. He also used high-definition cameras and cell phone cameras.

As of now, we only used the senses. We are going to use tools like cameras to observe and record our chosen place. Our group can also use paper and pen to record and gather important information.

I noticed that our observations like their physical appearance, needs, habitats etc. were mostly based by what we saw about the living things. None among us mentioned about the smell and texture of the plants and animals. This is maybe due to our limitations to go out. I on one hand, used my sense of hearing as I observed the cow's moo.

a) Xinema used her her sense of hearing by listening to the noise of whales, dolphins, and fishes underwater. Sense of sight is used to identify and locate fish underwater. She used sense of touch for the fishes, sea turtles, or sharks but not for the corals. Above the water, she smells the seabirds and their guano. Meanwhile, Reynaldo sees the different forms and colors. He determines if the leaf or bark is leathery, rough, or soft which allows him to classify different kinds of plants through the sense of touch. When he slashes the bark, he smells the sap that comes out and determine if it is sweet or bitter. He uses the sense of hearing when in the middle of the jungle and there were potentially dangerous animals.

b) What I may want to and to our record is how systematic their use of their senses to observe and gather data on the different living things.

c) Ximena used drones under and above water. Additionally camera traps that record sound underwater, GoPro cameras, microscopes, rulers, and scales were utilized to gather data and observe them again offshore. Reynaldo primarily used handheld magnifying lens to look at the small parts of flowers or leaves that were not visible in the naked eye. Moreover, measuring tapes and cell phones were also utilized to gather data and observe them again right after.

d) We may use measuring tapes, rulers, and cell phone because those are easily found within the households and are within our budget as students while the others are professional equipment that are specifically used for intense research and are therefore expensive.

The sense of sight, hearing, touch, and smell were all substantially used by Dr. Xinema and Dr. Reynaldo to observe and study living things in their research. I wanted to add how they used their senses to work together with each other and the tools to provide useful types of information in their immediate environment to our record. Dr. Xinema and Dr. Reynaldo used advanced tools to record and study specific living things and their behavior.

I would be very pleased if I have the means to use the high-tech tools they used. But, it would still be ok to use magnifying glasses to observe living things closely.

I am fascinated by the rich biodiversity of our research area. Having more kinds of living things seems pleasurable as we will be able to explore others more compared to what we already have. However, it may be detrimental as some species are not compatible with ours.
