AI Isn't Cheating, but Cheaters Use It

I think that AI in it of itself isn't cheating if not used for the express purpose of cheating. Much like how going to Tutoring isn't considered cheating, it's a form of getting help. However, if a tutor was just giving a student all the answers to something and encouraging dishonest behavior, then that is cheating. AI most definitely CAN be used to cheat, but the concept and all applications of it isn't inherently cheating. It just makes things more efficient and admittedly easier.

I believe that AI is radioactive. It's incredibly powerful and people are playing with it willy nilly. It has the potential to do a lot of powerful things, but it is dangerous and empowers a lot of people who may have bad intentions and at the very least, can't predict the consequences of their actions. While AI is in it's nascent phase, I do think that it already has the portential to do big things. What is readily available to the public for free is more powerful than people really know, especially for compsci and technical things. If the more powerful, private versions and protypes are more powerful and less restrained, I fear what bad actors may do and what terrifying technology could get into the hands of the public

Some A.I. are chatbots that can answer even your craziest technical issues, other A.I. are grammar and spelling tools that makes your writing convey a clearer and easier to understand message. It is still very limited in its scope right now, but the implications for all the positive effects A.I. can have is worth learning about and understanding A.I.

My brother is obsessed. I'm kinda like whatever right now. I don't think it's cheating if it's used as a brainstormer help, but a copy/paste job from what it generates back at you I'm not a fan of (for cheating purposes)

Plus the theoretical foundations taught in school aren’t really original, these ideas are being taken from somewhere - whether that’s books or reports. AI just makes it easier to acquire in a shorter time.

Personally, I find things like ChatGPT can be useful in formatting and structure. I recently used ChatGPT to help me create a table for a three-month project development schedule. I did this by listing the dates of weekends and holidays that I wanted it to exclude within a certain time frame and then had it draw a table up. The alternative was for me to open a calendar app and count the days by hand. It did well enough, but it still had errors. But for things like brainstorming or other creative uses, I find it to be a hassle. I have to go out of my way to use it and it feels a little pointless.

I'm very much against generative AI like Midjourney, ones used to create art. It does so by stealing and combining the work of millions of artworks. I think it's ethically wrong to use it based on that fact alone, especially when anyone can make art if they simply put time into learning.
