No, I would not enjoy activities such as fishing. Firstly I feel like fishing is very time consuming, and as a student I really don't have much time to go out. It also need lots of patience which I do not have. Sometime after a whole day couldn't even catch a fish.

Secondly, fishing accessories is very expensive like the reel, rod and baits. The cost of all the accessories needed can cost up to thousands of dollars, depending on the quality. And I feel that spending so much money on fishing is not worth it.

Lastly, I don't want to kill or injure any fishes. Catching a fish would harm it physically and mentally even if you choose to release it back, the fear may still kill them. In addition, the hook could injure it's grill and led the fish to death.

Fishing does not appeal to me as it takes a lot of arm strength and determination. Arm strength as you never know how much the fish that bites your bait could weigh. It can even take you to use your whole body strength or even get help from someone else.

Patience is another factor. Though people suggest that you just bring a stool and sit down and wait, you need to consider the environment. Singapore is a very humid country. It could take hours for the fish to bite the bait and Singapore's weather is not one where it's comfortable to just sit down and wait.

Money. You need to buy a fishing rod, a fishing reel, pliers and a tackle box. It requires a huge sum of money to buy them. Besides, most of the fish would probably be thrown back to the water. I don't know which fish is safe to eat.

Also, while waiting, there would probably be a lot of flies buzzing around or wild animals. Encountering a wild animal is a very dangerous thing. It could probably not have eaten for a long while and who knows you could just be their next target. So, why would fishing ever appeal to me?

Fishing does not sound appealing to me. To me, fishing is a hobby that requires a lot of patience. Paitience is not something im good at. From what I hear from my friends who goes fishing, it is hard to catch even a single fish after waiting for hours. Sitting down there doing nothing for hours does not seem fun at all. Fishing out in the open, we are prone to getting lots of mosquito bites as well.

Secondly, fishing is costly. Buying a decent fishing rod will least cost $50 to $100 and better ones for more than $100. This is just the cost of the fishing rod itself. Buying more gears such as the hooks, nets etc and more will just add up to the cost. As an adverage teenager, I can not afford to purchase such costly items with the amout of poket money i receive.

Thirdly, I do not find pleasure in hurting animals. People fish to either eat or throw it back into the river. However, it will harm the fishes either way when they bite into the hook. It is proven that fishes can get extremely stressed in traumatic situations which could even lead to death. I would not want to harm an inocent creature for my own pleasure. I believe that wild life should be left alone.

Well I have never tried fishing before, but on a whim I would say that I would not enjoy fishing as a leisure activity. I believe that it would be a boring and time-wasting hobby. Sometimes when I am walking near reservoirs or the beach, I see anglers sitting on little stools near the water's edge with their dangling fishing rods, just waiting for a sign that a fish has taken their bait. It seems like such a chore and a waste of time. Sitting there for hours on end waiting for a fish that I would be releasing anyways doesn't really scream leisure to me. In my eyes, there is no point in fishing for enjoyment or relaxation since you would be releasing the fish that you catch in the end, and it can be quite tiring when you are trying to reel in your catch. The environment isn't very leisurely either, with mosquitoes and who knows what other insects flying around or biting at your ankles and eating you alive whilst you are baking under the hot Singapore sun.

Personally, I also wouldn't want to fish because of moral concerns. Imagine yourself just casually relaxing, and all of the sudden a sharp metal hook impales you and pulls you up towards the sky. Imagine the pure terror and confusion you would be going through. That is what fishing is like. Unless you are actually going to eat the fish that is caught, it inflicts unnecessary harm on the fish. I just think that there is no point in catch-and-release fishing. Not only is it ethically questionable for the fish, if endangered fish species are hooked, anglers are likely to keep it for themselves as a trophy which obviously isn't good for conservation.

When fishing comes to mind, I would think of it as a boring, mundane and time-consuming which doesn't really appeal to me as a suitable hobby. Many equipment such as fishing rod, box of tools and a stool are needed for this long hobby. With enough luck after casting many hooks, I would only be able to reel the small ones with my current physique. With such expensive equipment and such torturous conditions, I would choose other hobbies rather than fishing.

It was shown that fishing can reduce stress levels. However for me, it is quite the opposite. With every minutes that passes while waiting for a fish to catch the hook, my anxiety increases as I am afraid that the second my eyes leave the fishing rod, a fishing would have taken the bait and swam away. With every fish I have caught, it was only humane for me to just relieve these poor fishes from the suffering from the injuries after pulling them out of the water. When pulling out the fish from the water, the gills of the fishes collapse due to the sudden change in pressure, even after releasing it, they might not survive from their fatal injuries.

No it doesn't.

When I picture myself fishing, it would be me bringing a stool, assembling my equipment, catching a bait, attaching it to the hook. Then, flinging it into the sea. Here comes the boring part of waiting for hours before getting a catch.

Firstly, I don’t think I have that much spare cash to invest in this hobby. Fishing is one of the hobbies where you have to invest a sum of money into, before even knowing you like it or not. Now let’s say I find this hobby very enjoyable, I would still have to spend money to maintain and upgrade my kit. With the cost of fishing strings and fishing rods nowadays, it will definitely burn a huge whole in my wallet.

Secondly, I would feel that I’m not someone with patience. A leisure activity in my eyes is something that pulls my attention away from the task I was doing. Most importantly, to let me enjoy myself. But fishing is not something I won’t be able to enjoy as majority of the time spent on this activity would be waiting. Yes, it’s true we can use the time waiting to chat with other anglers, but wouldn’t it be better if you were to do some activities that better promotes sociability?

Lastly I feel that fishing is inhumane. Going to fish a few times before, I can say the hook is really sharp. There have been countless amount of times my finger got cut because of it. If I the fisher, get hurt from the hook, wouldn’t the fish be in a much worse condition with the hook penetrating the lips? Physical injury is one thing, but mental injury is a whole other level. Fishers use bait to lure hungry fishes, as a result these fishes get injured. The fishes will definitely remember that moment where they got tricked, and would be forever suspicious of their baits. This can lead to them starving if they are unwilling take the risk of the eating their baits.

With this, I probably never go fishing. However, I have nothing against anglers, as everyone have their own ways of enjoying themselves.

No I do not enjoy leisure activities such as fishing. To me, fishing takes up a long period of time. After catching one, I have to throw it back as I have no knowledge on whether it is edible or not. When I was younger, my family and I went prawning. Though it did not take hours as the area was man made but it was boring. I have no interest and would choose to not partake in such activities if I had the option.

Catching a fish would harm it physically and mentally even if you choose to release it back. The hook would pierce its lips and jaws. In addition, once a fish is brought out of it's aqueous environment, their gill system would collapse. Because of the sudden change of pressure, their swim bladders might rupture. The moment you captured the fish and up to its release, the fish might go through trauma of getting caught and die from the stress they feel. Yes, the fish is released but the physical and mental damage that they went through could lead to death.

The thought of being out in the humid weather conditions is not ideal. Even after choosing a shady area, sweating is inevitable in Singapore. As someone with eczema, even with a fan keeping me cool, I would experience the itch let alone being out in the hotter temperature. Being sweaty and sticky irritates my skin for prolonged hours. Even after a shower, the itch is persistent and distracts me from tasks like reading, studying and chores.

No, i would not enjoy activities such as fishing. To many, including me, fishing seems like a pretty relaxed activity, where you just hook fish baits onto the hook of a fishing rod, throw it into the water then sit on a stool and wait for fishes to bite. However, it's not as simple as it might look, especially when I'm someone who gets distracted very easily. I would probably get up, pack my tools and go home in the midst of waiting for fish to bite the bait. In addition, I am definitely not a good match with patience, and would probably get frustrated midway should I were to receive no results.

I also think that fishing feels like a torture, both to the person engaging in it as well as the ill-fated fish.

To the angler, although fishing is known to have calming benefits on the mind and allow one to enjoy the tranquility of the environment around them, it could feel irritating to have to release the fish back into the water after spending so much time waiting to catch it, because it simply feels like a waste of time then.

To the fish, on the other hand, research has proven that it experiences extreme feelings of terror and possibly even lingering trauma afterwards when it is caught by a fishing hook, then released. I am definitely not ready to cause such agony to a living organism, which is why my answer to this question would once again be a no.

Although fish is my favourite poultry, the thought of fishing for my catch has never appealed to me.

My first impression of fishing was an activity that required long amount of hours and the idea of that was unappealing to me as I am a habitually impatient person. I can never sit still for too long. Even worse, the seething heat would cook me alive.
I didn't understand the point of fishing because why fish when we can't even keep what we catch? In the end, we can't even enjoy the fish and have no choice but to release them back into the waters. I thought that fishing was unnecessary and dull and I couldn't comprehend how anyone could enjoy such an activity.

During my short trip to Bintan, my best friend that i was on this vacation with suggested that we went fishing. He debated strongly with me that fishing was actually a fun activity and he has been fishing since he was a child, and he wanted to change my perspective about fishing. Although I was obstinate at first, I finally gave in as I thought that I shouldn't knock it until I tried it.
When we arrived at the river, the waters were shallow and I was perplexed. He told me that we were going to do spearfishing. As an amateur, I was taken aback, not knowing what to do as I stepped into the shallow muddy waters. I could barely see the fishes around me, but I could feel them scurrying away every step I took. My friend told me to make quiet movements and that I should have a sharp eye. Not long later, He pierced his spear through the water and there was an immediate splash! He pulled out his spear and it was still fidgeting. He caught a catfish. I was very impressed and I thought that It would be quite simple.
I was wrong. I did not catch a single fish, furthermore I slipped and full in the muddy waters.

Yes, leisure activities like fishing do appeal to me. However, the leisure activity fishing definitely does not appeal to me.

Personally, I enjoy prawning. Prawns and shrimp are seafood I enjoy eating. The act of cooking my catch also gives me a sense of accomplishment. Watching the float sink and the line become taut definitely delights me, when you consider the fact that you managed to snag a catch from a considerably large pool of water. However, there are definitely some prawning acts I do not enjoy. For example, some people skewer their caught prawns from the bottom all the way into their brains to barbeque it easier to barbeque it, which i find quite disturbing and merciless. I usually resort to just placing them on the grill with tongs to give them a less painful death.

However, while I enjoy prawning, the same cannot be said for fishing. First of all, fishing is usually done in the open, so you have to bring your own equipment like your fishing rod, fishing reel, tackle box, boga grip, pliers, and the like, which is a lot more than I'm willing to carry. Fishing can also be quite unpredictable, as you never know what you can catch. It's also considerably harder to catch fishes due to the size of the waterbody, and the effort needed to reel the fishes up. Not only that, the catch you get is also unpredictable, meaning you may not catch the fish you want to eat, and end up throwing a injured and traumatised fish back into the water. I personally cannot imagine the pain they must feel getting pulled out of the water with a hook pierced into their mouth. Thus, which activities such as fishing appeal to me, the activity fishing itself does not.

No I don't. To me, my concept of fishing is simply finding a good spot, taking a stool to sit down and preparing all the fishing tools. Buying worms and to sitting there for hours waiting for the fishes to get lured by the bait. Just passing time, constantly needing to change the bait. It’s so meaningless, buying the worms and the expensive fishing equipment, just to try and catch a fish. Only if we’re lucky enough will we even be able to catch a fish or two.

I definitely have no patience at all to wait for one fish to get lured by the bait and possibly spend half the day passing time. Especially in Singapore’s hot and ever-changing weather, it isn't really a fun place to be in all day, baking under the scorching hot sun. Blatantly speaking, It just seems like a waste of time, and bores me out completely. With the thousands of mosquitoes flying around in Singapore, such places like Kallang riverside park would be home to the thousands of them squirming around scouring for the sweetest blood.

Last but not the least, for the most humane reason, I don’t want to injure or kill a fish. Sure I do love eating fish, but the thought of me killing a fish and eating it, just dosen’t seem appetizing at all to me. Just to throw a fish back into the water after catching it, this would definitely harm the fish, maybe even damage its gills. I don’t call that fishing, it’s basically just harming them. Fishes have minds of their own too, they feel fear and pain too, what if we got hooked by a hook? It would hurt us too. Maybe even terrorize us as well. For me, it’s a definite no.

When catching a fish, you would have to reel up then reel back the line as you pull down, this tiring cycle repeats until the fish is near. Sometimes you catch really strong fish that pulls the rod from your hands, sometimes you catch unmature fish that you would hardly call a catch.

The hardest part about fishing is to unhook the damned fish and throwing it back into the water, sometimes the fish would jump and struggle endlessly as you try to unhook the stupid bastard, sometimes the fish would literally attack you, biting and slapping its tail and fins in a hopeless effort to somehow protect itself. When you finally throw the cunt back into the water, you can try to wipe your sweat with your fish slime covered hands. Casting is another hassle itself, you would have to tie the hook onto the line, like multiple times to ensure that the hook is secure. Then, somehow, swing and try to land your hook in a 'lucky spot' and pray that you get a bite.

From my perspective, I think that fishing is a very boring thing to do. We go out to a river, take out the fishing rod, hook the worm on the hook, throw it into the river and we wait for the fish to bite. Sometimes the fish won’t bite immediately, it takes time for it to bite. This is the most boring part. I would stare at the float while waiting for it to sink. When the float sink, it means that a fish bite. But sometimes it is just an illusion and the fact that no fish bite. In addition, I would not feel good if the fish get away when i am pulling it towards the river bed. The worst scenario that can happen is that no fish bite at the end of the day.

But fishing this activity is appealing to me. Fishing can help family bond. Fishing may sounds as boring from what i mention above, but it gives us the opportunity to spend more time with my friends and family. My brother and I do not know how to fish, but my dad and his friend does. I always anticipate for my dad bringing us out to fish together with them. He always go fishing with his friend, leaving for days. My brother and I used to watch a television series on National Geographic called "wicked tuna". It was a show where different fisher teams compete to fish for the best tuna they can find and the one that sell the highest price win. It was the day when my interest to fishing rose. That's why, if there any chance a my dad is able to bring us to fish, i be more willingly to go.

Leisure activities such as fishing do not appeal to me because of these two main reasons. Firstly, I see fishing as a boring activity that requires patience, which is something I have little of. I believe that fishing revolves around the idea of tossing a hook with a worm as bait into a body of water, and sitting on a stool while waiting for a fish, just for it to quickly snatch the bait off my hook, leaving me to wait a long time for another fish. You might suggest that I do something interesting while waiting to keep myself occupied, for example reading a book. However, there is never a doubt that when one sits still, a group of relentless mosquitoes will attack. Therefore, I will be occupied swatting away persistent mosquitoes, which further ruins the appeal of fishing for me. Though this view of mine is seen as a misconception by fishing enthusiasts, I will continue to believe in it. Since I will not willingly partake in this activity, someone will have to push me to. When that happens, maybe my view will change and I will realize fishing actually isn't boring. Until then, fishing will continue to be unappealing to me.

Another reason why fishing does not appeal to me is because it's harms the fish. Fishing enthusiasts gush over their big catches, but it seems that they are oblivious to the fact that they are injuring the fishes they catch. When hooks pierce a fish's flesh, they feel immense pain and terror, which can negatively affect the remainder of their life. Even worse, some might not even survive after being let back into the water. Therefore, I will not take part in this activity as I could not bear the pitying sight of the suffering fishes.

Due to these 2 reasons, fishing is a leisure activity that does not appeal to me, and thus not an activity that I will want to take part in.

Fishing does not appeal to me. Firstly it is an expensive hobby. The cost of all the gear needed can cost up to thousands of dollars, depending on the model and quality that you buy. But it is still an expensive hobby. You will also need to spend on baits like worms and artificial baits. And so I feel that spending a large sum of money for a leisure activity is not worth the investment.

Other than fishing being expensive, another reason is because fishing is time consuming. Most of the time spent when fishing is actually waiting, and as one whose patience usually run low, fishing is the last thing I would do. I have tried fishing once and honestly, it was probably the most boring day ever. Sitting on a stool by the river bank wasting time by doing absolutely nothing is just something that I cant handle. My dad once old me that fishing is one way to kill time and I agree with that statement. I'd rather suffer physical pain through exercise for a log period of time as I will be able to strengthen my physical capabilities through the process.

The final reason as to why fishing does not appeal is because there is no adrenalin rush when fishing. As one who finds comfort in speed, fishing just does not give me the dopamine hit I desire. In fact, it is the total opposite! almost the entire time spent during fishing has got zero adrenalin factor to it. And so this is why fishing is not my cup of tea.

No, fishing specifically does not appeal to me. Firstly, fishing is a prolonged activity. As a person who does not have much patience, fishing is definitely not my niche. Waiting for a fish to swim up and being baited to can take an unprecedented amount of time. Thus, sometimes I can be too engrossed with doing something else, and I might frighten the fishes away without knowing. Hence, leaving all brusque and incensed would be expected if this was a weekly routine for me, and so I rather not fish.

Secondly, fishing is a costly activity to carry out. Just for a beginner, the basic necessities like a fishing rod, fishing reel and artificial baits can be very expensive. Even at a local bricks and mortar store, these items can be a hassle to purchase based on the types of fishing gear that is bought. In addition, the blazing sun might just add to the need for shades and sunblock. Therefore, I am more towards keeping and saving my money than largely spend it on any type of leisure activity.

Finally, to fish is a troublesome thing to set up. Currently, I need to tag along a foldable seat because there are no benches provided for fishers, and the angling equipment too. Imagine having to bring all that just to catch fish, but it is really not worth the trip due to the inconvenience caused. What if I left my fishing rod at home? Should I return and leave my things here?

These are some of the concerns that I have of fishing in particular, but it was interesting to know the various equipment used when fishing.

In my personal opinion, leisure activities such as fishing does not appeal to me for several reasons.

To begin with, fishing requires long hours of simply waiting for the fish to hook. This time could be replaced with more meaningful activities such as gardening with my mother , gaming with my sister or simply doing household chores with my parents. Personally, as a city dweller I am living in a hectic lifestyle and I dislike waiting. Hence, doing such a leisure activity will definitely not suite me.

The next reason why I find this may not be the most attractive leisure activity for me is because of my beliefs and principles. Once a sharp metal hook pokes through the gills of a fish, it would be very painful. Even though people might end up throwing it back into the water after catching it, however, once we throw it back ,the fish might not be able to survive.

Lastly, a leisure activity such as fishing does not really appeal to me. This is because it is a costly activity as there are many equipments that are needed such as fishing rods, reels and artificial baits that may be very expensive. I would rather do leisure acticities that picks up my interest such as baking.

On the other hand, some people may have a different perspective on fishing for leisure. There are people who find fishing to be an opportunity to get closer to nature and to enjoy beautiful scenery. They may also be able to discover the beauty of nature as they might not have much interaction with it being occupied with tasks to accomplish in their daily lives. In addition, fishing allows people to get their eyes off their electronic devices. Furthermore, they are able to breathe in fresh air instead of being stuck in a sedentary lifestyle.

All in all, although fishing may appeal to some people, personally, I think that it is a waste of time, costly and does not match my ethical beliefs.

No I don’t. Even if fishing counts as a leisure activity, it is not appealing to me as I would tend to find it boring. It’s like lots of preparation is needed just to go for fishing and it does not really sounds like a leisure activity and even looks like one. You would need to go and dig out for the worms which can be disgusting and tiring at the same time as it is hard to find any worms on the ground. Even if you go and purchase a box worm it is like a waste of money. To add on, you would also need to purchase the necessary equipment which can go to a waste if you do not oftenly go fishing or even have interest in it at all.

Another reason would be that it would feel purposeless. I mean, catching a fish afer and throwing it back into the sea after that? What’s the point? Well to me, it’s just a waste of effort and time. You would be spending a whole day preparing the accessories and sitting there catching the fishes, but at the end of the day, you would just dump them back into the river as you wouldn’t even know if those fishes can be eaten.

Lastly, fishing requires lots of patience which I do not have and it depends on the weather too. If it rains, you cannot even go fishing as it would be hard to fish in such wet weather conditions. Even fishes would not want to come and find food on the rod. Fishing is like doing miniature designs. It requires a large amount of patience as you will have to sit there all day long waiting for the fish to eat the bait. If there isn’t any fishes, you will just be sitting down there wasting your time or falling asleep due to the long waiting time.

Therefore, fishing does not appeal to me as I would find it boring and a waste of my precious time which I can use to do something more meaningful.

No I don’t. To me, I think that fishing is an activity that requires a lot of patience in order to successfully catch a fish. It take hours to catch a fish and sometimes, the fishes might even escape before I pull up the rod. Wasting my time after all. As a short-tempered person, I’m pretty sure that I would get annoyed and tired of it in a matter of an hour.

Another reason I think fishing isn’t an activity for me is because I need to sit around the river, under the hot sun, at risk of having sunburn anytime. Reapplying of sticky and oily sunblock isn’t ideal for me. I don’t really like the stickiness of sunblock on me. But at the same time, I do not wish to have big red patches of sunburn on me. Speaking from experience, it does not feel good.

Fishing is also an activity that really depends on luck. I can never be sure that I will catch any fishes that day. If I’m lucky enough, I might have a full bucket of fishes by the end of the day; but if I’m not, little or none in the bucket. However, since I cannot assure that they’re edible, I would likely throw the fishes back into the water, making the activity meaningless after all.

Leisure activities such as fishing does not appeal to me.

In my opinion, fishing is a long and tedious process. Firstly, you have to buy certain tools to aid in the fishing process and they are costly. After buying the tools you have to manually set up parts of the fishing rod. When the fishing rod is ready, a bait is needed to lure in the fishes. Some are seen bringing a stool to dig for worms while others choose to buy them. Then, put the bait on the fishing hook and cast it. Casting a fishing line also takes skills as you have to be wary of the direction the hook is being thrown. If you are not careful you could injure someone as the sharp points could hit them. When the line has been successfully thrown into the river, the next step is to have a lot of patience. Fishing can last up to hours depending on whether the fishes are enticed by your bait. Who knows maybe the fishes have refined tastebuds and dislike worms. Next is a misconception I have of fishing. I thought that after the fish bites the bait all you need to do was reel it in. However, a lot of arm strength is needed to catch the fish. It’s not a laidback activity. Surprisingly, there is more hard work put in and a variety of technical ways. It’s much more detailed than others think! An avid angler mentioned that they own a trusty tackle box. It contains fishing tools and accessories such as a good pair of pliers and a good pair of sunglasses. I’ve only assumed that sunglasses were to protect the eyes from the blinding sun. However, it is also used to protect the eyes from being hit by the fishing hook, and it apparently gives them a cool look.

As I mentioned previously about needing a lot of patience, I do not fit that criteria. I do not have that patience to sit in the open under the hot sun to wait for a fish to bite. That’s not the only negative aspect of fishing. The place where fishing occurs is a place known for its breeding site for insects. Those annoying blood suckers, called mosquitos, would never leave me in peace. The irksome noise they make, and their bottomless pit appetite will irritate me to no end.

Lastly, a very humane reason, why I do not like fishing is it causes harm to the fishes that get caught on the sharp hook. The poor creatures which only craved for food is harmed for the purpose of human entertainment. Even if we release the fish back into the water, the damage is done. No amount of time reversed can fix those cruel actions. As a result, there is a high chance that the fish may not survive as the sharp hook could have injured their gills. Another possibility is the hooked fish won't be able to survive as they not only endure physical pain but also mental damage. When they are emotionally damaged, it can lead to terror. Certain stages of terror can lead to death.

Therefore, fishing will not appeal to me as it is harmful to the fishes and the tedious process of fishing will tire me.

No it does not, in fact I despise leisure activities like fishing. I can never picture myself sitting on a stool preparing gross artificial bait, be it worms, leeches or squiggly creatures, attaching it onto the hook of the fishing rod and then flinging it into sea. I don’t call this leisure activity fishing, I call it abusing.

One reason why I resent fishing is because of my low patience tolerance. Patience is not one of my natural abilities, nor did I adopt a habit of being patient. Especially when it comes to activities like fishing, it appeals to me as a mundane and boring. For example, I once tagged along with my uncle on a fishing trip in hopes of improving my patience level. However, everything went south instead- I could barely attach the bait onto the hook without screeching for help, I felt my blood boil each time the fishes swerved my bait, and I was so bored I started counting the strands of grass planted right along the river. Not only was this fishing attempt an epic fail, it also triggered my anger issues! Blatantly speaking, I do not have the patience to wait a whole day for fishes to be lured to my bait. I rather use that time to do other meaningful things, like learning a new sport.

A key reason why fishing is not my cup of tea is because it’s inhumane. Yes, the feeling of victory after capturing the fish can feel rejuvenating, however it does not do any good for them. These hooked fish endure not only physical pain but also terror, and they tend to suffocate when they’re out of their natural environment. If us humans were to be poked by a needle, we would feel a sharp pain, but what about the fishes? They feel that immense pain too. Research has also shown that the protective coating on their bodies becomes damaged when handled by humans, making them more vulnerable to infections when they’re thrown back into the water. Hence the catching and releasing of fish should not be attempted, as harm is brought upon these fishes.

Another reason would be that fishing is a rather pricey hobby. A fishing rod on it’s own could cost hundreds of dollars, and the cost of other equipment's and artificial baits haven’t been accounted for. I for one would definitely not burn a hole in my own pocket for something that doesn't bring me joy. All in all, it isn’t sensible to invest in such an activity that could cost one an arm and a leg, as fishing only brings one temporary happiness, and this activity can be neglected by one after awhile.

To conclude, leisure activities like fishing do not appeal to me at all, for it is a complete waste of my time and is not beneficial.

No, To me, fishing is more of a physical challenge with the right amount of chaos instead of a ' leisure activity' , who the hell finds fishing a leisurely activity?

I would go out to fish with my friends every now and then. We are a chaotic bunch, jumping around and shouting loudly like a troop of monkeys. Whenever there was a bite, we would scream and shout like apes , when there was nothing to do, we would laze like orangutans.

Fishing is not easy. Its not that one activity everyone can do with ease. It is a long, sane-draining and tiring challenge. Just the wait for a bite can make one go insane. People without patience will not like fishing. That is a fact, not a misconception.

There are three parts to fishing, baiting and casting, then waiting, then catch and release. The hardest part is not the wait, its when the fish fights back. When reeling back your catch you have to pull your rod up, the reel down as fast as you can while tugging your rod down. This process is repeated till the fish is close. Sometimes when the fish is strong, the rod may just fly right out your hands or the rod will literally snap. Sometimes, the fish is so small , that you'll hardly call it a catch. After you reeled the fish close to you, you would have to catch it with a net as it struggles to get away.

After getting your catch on land, you will have to unhook the fish as so to get your precious hook back. It will try to break free from your grip, so you will have to pin it to the ground, hard, and gouge out the hook with whatever you wish to use. Sometimes, which is mostly, the catch will continuously flop around or try to attack you. Whenever this happens, i would prefer the method of execution by chopping the fish into half with a machete (we do this in Malaysia).

These hassles of fishing and the time and energy wasted on fishing is why i don't consider fishing a leisure activity. I do fish, but i view it more of a physical challenge rather than a leisurely activity.

During the runs they are able to take their minds off work and have a some me-time. This is their method destressing a healthy way to keep their mind sharp.

Since they tend to do long runs, they have invested in proper running gear to protect themselves from injuries like ankle sprains and shin splints. Such gear that they have invested in are performance running shoes and running watches to record their runs. Many leisure runners feel that such investments may be a little unnecessary but to my parents that feel that safety is always worth investing.

I too do some running from time to time to maintain my endurance especially with the 2.4 kilometer run as part of the NAPFA test.

Some families enjoy window shopping, however, we do not.

Try picturing a scenario in your head, you bringing a stool, sitting in the middle of the sweltering weather, perspiring excessively till the stinky sweat got you drenched fully in your oversized cotton T-shirt and hunting desperately for worms to be used as a bait to lure fishes to hook onto the bait. Now, does fishing sounds enticing to you? If it doesn’t sound appealing to you, it definitely goes the same for me, In view of the fact that fishing requires labour intensive and large amount of time invested into it, people like me, do not see why fishing is appealing.

Asking someone like me who does not have the patient to sit down for a couple of hours to wait for the fish to hook onto the bait? No way. Impatient me would have just stand up and walk about, fidgeting around with items surrounding me.

Hardly, do I have the spare time to take a hiatus from the hectic lifestyles I had, so I do rather spend my time wisely. Simple as hanging out with my friends or beloved family, laughing and chatting away would be the most ideal day to spend my free time.

Moreover, fishing also involved certain risks such that one could sustain injuries. Fishing tools such as pliers, boga grip have sharp pointy edges that might expose one to the risk of being cut, poke in the skin etc. In the end, I might end up paying for the high cost medical care.

To conclude, fishing is not a leisure activity that would captivate my attention. As someone as clumsy as an ox, and someone who have very little patience, fishing might not be a suitable activity for me.

Ever since I was 7years old, I have been fishing during the holidays and I find it appealing. Standing under the blazing hot sun in the afternoon, gripping tightly on my fishing rod, swaying it left and right to fight the fish, it can never be more exciting than that. Fishing is a unique hobby as it divides the majority of those who do not know how to appreciate the excitement of fishing with the investment of time and effort setting up equipment. As for me, I have the time to spent in fishing and get to experience tackling a fish.

The fun starts when the fish bites your lure and the struggling of you pulling back it creates adrenaline that rushes through your entire body, making you feel excited. Fishes comes in different sizes. The larger, the better the fight. It feels like you're in a game, trying to capture an aquatic creature into your boat.

Additionally, fishing distresses and calms my mind. Being alone in the outdoors looking at the beautiful scenery god has to offer, I can never help but to feel relaxed while casting my fishing rod and reminiscing the good thoughts. Fishing in the pond in a small country that lies on the equator gives me a sense of belonging.

Above all, fishing is a leisure activity that some enjoy which have positivity in them, such as comforting yourself in a relaxing environment and fishes provides the fun for you in tackling them.

Leisurely activities are things that people do for enjoyment in their free time, it can be pot-making , sculpting, or even a hobby. I recommend reading, even though i don't read in school, I would love to use my free time to read a preferred book or a new manga while lying on my bed and listening to relaxing music. It is so comfortable and relaxing that i mostly fall asleep while reading.

My family would usually go out for walks in nearby parks, stay at home to watch a movie, or have a reading session . Most of the time we would play board games like Monopoly or Risk. Board games are sometimes fun and sometimes annoying, it does not exactly destress you , but puts you in a better mood.

Most of my leisurely activities are with my friends , especially my online friends. When we are free, we would join a call together to chat, game or do whatever that brought joy to us. Sometimes we would playing games late into the night or talk about random topics till the end of time. We would fill the call without endless and vexing laughter or total silence when playing games. These random but appreciated events bring fun and happiness into our sometimes dull and boring lives. We would do dumb shit and stupid acts, all in the name of enjoyment and friendship.

No, it does not appeal to me.

Leisure activities like fishing seem like a long and boring activity whereby a lot of patience is required. One might imagine sitting on a stool under the shade, finding squirming worms, casting the rod, and just waiting. An inexperienced angler would need a lot of trial and error just to get one or two small fishes, sometimes none. At the end of the day, the fishes we catch are thrown back into the water, this makes it seem like all your hard work was all for naught. Buying the equipment to even start fishing is also difficult due to the amount of research and money needed to purchase such items.

In Singapore, it is not advisable to sit out in the open for extended periods as there may be high Ultraviolet radiation or even bug-bites, especially mosquitoes since we must be near stagnant water. The increased mosquito count can make it possible to contract dengue. The experience is therefore, to a certain extent, dangerous.

The experience of catching a rare fish may be thrilling but one also must consider the ethics of catching endangered fish. Even if the fish was a common one, it can injure the fish. Hooked fish experience physical pain, sometimes even life-threatening ones if their gills are damaged, which is highly likely as the gills will collapse due to the difference in the air and water pressure. Fish and other animals experience shock from traumatic events, shock for an animal can be dangerous as their bodies work differently, if there is too much shock, there may even be death involved. It seems too unethical to be justified.

That is why I probably will not enjoy leisure activities like fishing

My family have one leisure activity that we all like but not so common compared to other family. This activity is mahjong. Mahjong is one of the most popular activity in China since it was being invented in mid-late 1800s. Mahjong is a 4 people game and i am in a family of four. My father is from Bei Jing, China. Hence, he introduced this game to us. There are many different ways to win in this game, going in the order of how big winning your set of tile is. When he is off from work, he would bring out his mahjong set and gather us around to play. Sometimes he would invite his friends over to our house to play this game. Even though mahjong can ve consider as gambling, but my family take is as a fun activity, we won't gamble any money.

I certainly enjoy this activity as this helps in family bonding. While i am in school early in the morning and when he came back from work, my brother and I were already asleep in our bed room. So i would take this activity as a chance to bond with my father. I would also feel a sense of happiness when i won him in this game. Now, i also introduced this game my friends and we would play every Saturday after we studied as a form relief from studies. Mahjong is a traditional game from China and should be spread towards more people so that they can learn about the culture in China

An activity my family engage in is cycling. This leisure activity is a rather recent implementation. My parents have been pestering me saying that I spend too much time at home, hence as a rebuttal I told them what if we all went cycling. They agreed it. Now, every Friday after my father gets off work, we would cycle around the vicinity of Toa Payoh. This has been rather enjoyable for me, hence I categorized it as a leisure activity. We will always cycle under the yellow light of the street lamps, the cold breeze would always make us shiver. This activity was initially something that I used to counter their words, but it ended up being something that I look forward to.

On occasions when we don't go cycling, we would play board games. One of which being Mahjong. Mahjong is a game which I picked up from my Grandmother. Back when I went to her house every week, she would be playing mahjong with my father. Seeing the unique game, piqued my curiosity. Current board and card games like Monopoly, UNO and Jenga have been too frequently played. So much so that I find them boring. However, the game of Mahjong is a whole different story. The tiles of Mahjong are unique, as they are thick solid plastic tiles. This is different, from games like UNO which uses cards. This leisure activity also allows me to communicate better with my Grandmother, as through the game I would be able to learn more about her personality and enjoy the game of Mahjong with her.

I feel that leisure activities can allow us to rest and relax. But it can also strengthen our chemistry. Take, for example, cycling with my parents let me to talk to them while cycling, allowing me to uncover much more about them.

Fishing is a leisure activity for many out there. However, it is an activity that I do not find as appealing and relaxing as many may think. Fishing is an activity that requires the utmost patience and skill.

When fishing, it is easy to think that the fish will come biting. However, it often takes much longer than just a few minutes for the fish to come. It may take hours or even half the day just to catch one fish. As someone who finds it difficult to sit still, it starts to become quite tiresome to have to wait for the fish to bite. Thus, because of the patience fishing requires, I do not find fishing as appealing.

There are many misconceptions about fishing. Some would think that all they need to do is to bring a stool, hook the bait and wait. However, experienced fishers will disagree. You have to work to catch a fish, for example, casting in different spots each time as well as trying different baits.

Fishing also requires a fair amount of skill and maybe even years of experience in fishing. For instance, the timing that you go fishing. For experienced fishers, they know that the time that one goes fishing is very important. Depending on the type of water, freshwater or saltwater, there is a range of timings in the day that the fish would be easier to attract. Additionally, there are also types of fish that bite better during the night than in the day.

In view of the fact that I do not possess such skills, I find fishing unappealing as I would have to continuously accept failed attempts at fishing. This easily discourages me and it would no longer be a leisure activity that I enjoy. In the end, fishing would only produce upsetting feelings. For these reasons, I do not find fishing as appealing.

Many people have at least one leisure activity that they enjoy doing and my family is no exception.

Out of everyone in my family, I find my fathers leisure activity to be the most active one. My father enjoys cycling as his leisure activity. He is well aware of his growing age and of the possible problems an unhealthy body will give him. For that reason, he has found cycling as a great way to maintain his health. However, he had found a liking for cycling and this activity that had started out as a form of exercise had bloomed to be a leisure activity he enjoys. Every friday evening after work when the melting sun had set, he would be dressed and ready for cycling. Not only had he invested in his own bike, he had also friends who love cycling as much as he does and the group of them would meet up a cycle.

On the other side of the spectrum, my sisters leisure activity is one that is less physically demanding. Her leisure activity is reading. She finds excitement in the many stories that are waiting eagerly out there in the world. She explains that books are not only a great way to improve her english, but also an escape. In her busy schedule of school, she is overwhelmed with the load of work that is required of her. During these moments, she finds it comforting to curl up in a spot that is quiet and serene and crack open a good book. She loses herself in her book which helps her momentarily take her mind off her stresses.

Leisure activities bring much joy and purpose into peoples lives. There are many people in the whole wide world who would prefer different kinds of leisure activities.

i think i would love fishing because i think it is a really fun way to spend our time. But i have never gotten a chance to go fishing.from what i see on television and on my friend’s Instagram story. It is a test of one’s strength, patience and enduribility. Strength because sometimes we might catch a big and a strong fish, these fishes have tremendous pulling strength, so we can see how stong we are.patience because we have to keep throwing it and reeling it back many times . endurability awesome times the fishes put up fights for up to 1 hour, due to its reluctance to get caught by the catcher.when such situation happens the catcher should have the same attitude as the fish and keep pulling the string. It is a test of patience as sometimes we would try many times but end up getting nothing ,we should not give up and keep trying.

Although some might think that fishing is purposeless as people spend a few hundred dollars to get all the fishing gear, they spend their time trying to catch a fish just so that they can take a picture and put it back in the water afterwards. Though this this almost true, fishing is a better way to spend our time when compared to hobbies like playing computer games. Playing computer games is even more purposeless and harmful to us.many teenagers spend a few thousand dollars to buy a gaming set up and play on it over night while staying at the same place staring at the same computer for more than 12 hours

In conclusion i would say that fishing teaches us many life values . when the fish puts up a fight against us we learn about perseverance.when we have caught a fish we will feel a sense of accomplishment. When we put in more effort than usual to catch a fish we understand that we have to put in effort if we want to reach our target. Thus , fishing appeals to me

Leisure activities such as fishing don't appeal to me.There are two reasons to justify my opinion. Firstly, Fishing requires you to be patient, which is something I lack. From what I have seen, fishing is just hooking a worm then throwing the fishing line into open water hoping to catch a fish. Sitting down on a stool under the scorching sun waiting for hours just to catch a fish then throw it back in. In a country like Singapore where It is very humid and hot, It wouldn't take long to be drenched in sweat. The swarming insects and mosquitos will only lead me into further irritation. Even if I somehow manage to catch a fish, it escapes. Leaving me in devastation. Fishing just doesn't intrigue me matter of fact it bores me.

Secondly, fishing put the fish in harms way. Although fish may not feel pain in the same way that we do, the psychological experience is nevertheless likely very similar. When fishes are reeled out of the water, the extreme pressure difference causes immense stress and injures them some even to the extent of killing them. However some anglers are oblivious to this and are taking pictures with fish as they wriggle and try to survive. I do not want to partake in a activity that causes something in harm's way for my enjoyment

Fishing is just not my cup of tea. Due to these two reasons out of the many others that were not mentioned. Leisure activities like fishing does not appeal to me.

Leisure activity to me is doing something that i like .most importantly it should help me relieve my stress.it can be anything that ranges from reading to running.

For me, at this point of time the most relaxing activity is filling up the blanks for my studies any topic that i dont understand i would restudy it my self.this is the best leisure activity because i feel hopeless and depressed when i dont understand any topics that the teacher has already taught. I feel hopeless because if i wouldnot be able to think properly or to even focus in any lesson when there is a topic that i dont understand. my brain would be haywire until i understand it.this is the case for a math as the teacher tends to rush through the topics due to lack of time.when this happens it makes me depressed as math is the only subject that I love doing and i understand, it is the one of the very few things in life that actually makes sense to me.when i can’t do something that I am good at I start to question my self worth, feel like i am good fro nothing. But when I self study it and when i fully understand it i feel a sense of achievement, thus this is one of my favourite leisure activity

As every second passes we are one second closer to the exams which are going to decide our future. The exam that has taken many lives away and given life to some. One of the common thing it offers to many is stress and anxiety. With the increasing stress, people are separated into two different groups the first group being the ones that study too much because of the stress and the second group being the ones that get too stressed and end up wasting a lot of time to releve the stress but the only way to relive it is by studying which the never realise.i belong in neither.i am in the middle of both, but when i study a lot the only way to award my self is by letting me sleep.it helps me to recharge and get ready for the next set of studies.

This has made me realise how its the small things that matter in life and not the big ones.

Leisure activities such as fishing does not appeal to me. To me fishing is just sitting on a stool, digging for worms, hooking on the bait, casting the line and waiting long hours doing nothing just for the fish to hook on. For me at least, it is just a waste of time and I would much rather spend my time doing something else. There are other factors that deepens my distaste for fishing like the damage it does to the fish and the patience it requires.

The first factor of fishing that puts me off, would be the damaging effects of fishing to the fish. Many people would think that fishes do not feel any pain and that it is harmless to them as they just fish for a fish and release it after a mere few minutes. However, these few minutes can actually cause a lot of pain and terror to the fish. As the fish is being pulled out of the water after being reeled in and taken out of the water it causes terror to the fish, they start to suffocate as their gills start to collapse and their swim bladders could even rupture due to abrupt change in pressure. Which is why for a very humane reason, I would not enjoy fishing as it is very harmful for the fish as it results to long-term damages to the fish.

The second factor is the amount of patience and luck needed for fishing. Getting a catch is not easy at all. It not only depends on the bait, but also luck. If you're lucky, you will probably be able to get a catch within an hour tops. However, if you're unlucky, getting a catch could take an eternity as the locations of the fishes are not very predictable. Unfortunately, my luck has never been good which makes it very unlikely for me to get a single fish. Adding on to my unluckiness, I also am not a patient person. I absolutely cannot envision myself sitting on a stool just waiting long consecutive hours for a fish to get my bait, or even worse, not even end up with a catch after waiting those torturous hours.

In conclusion, I would not enjoy fishing as an activity due to the harm to does to the fishes as well as the patience and luck needed to get a catch. Which is why I would be better off doing other activities

Ever since I was young, I've always hated outdoors activities, and fishing is among them. For me, fishing is a long and rigorous process that requires tremendous effort for little results. See, one has to have the necessary equipment which is in the first place expensive, then find a suitable place for fishing. In a small nation like Singapore, there are very limited options, all of which are located quite a distance from my home and it would be time consuming to even travel there. Then upon reaching and setting up the equipment, one would have to actively lure fishes towards the bait- a job too meticulous and tiring to appeal to me. It takes long time to catch a single fish, which also requires a sustained effort and a decent amount of patience. And for me, all the effort is useless as the next few steps after making a catch would be to take a picture with the unlucky victim and then to throw it back into the water. While some do see the fun in doing so, I don't. Fishing to me is a waste of my time and effort for something that doesn't serve much purpose. I'd rather spend that effort on something useful like studying or revising at home or bonding with my family at home.

In addition, the very way fishing works is inhumane to me. A fish would be tricked into biting into a sharp hook, which stabs the fish. Then, it would be mercilessly dragged into an environment where it would suffocate for a considerable amount of time, before being unhooked and released back into the water. Just imagine if the fish and us swapped roles. Human beings being painfully hooked by our mouths and being dragged into the water where we can't breath before being thrown back out into the air would be a bloody, violent scene, yet when we do it to fishes, it's a fun, family-friendly activity. In addition, the unlucky fish would be traumatized from the incident, and may end up fearful of eating.

These two reasons make me look like a boring city boy who shy away from adventure, but still I'd rather be judged that way than to take part in activities such as fishing.

Unlike me, both my family and friends are more active and doesn't mind going on a hike or cycling and perspiring in the hot sun. They often drag me along, but I wouldn't mind the hot sun for a little bonding.

The favorite pastime for both my friends and family alike would be renting a bike from East Coast Park and cycling all the way to the Singapore Flyer. I don't like the part where I would end up with sweat trickling down my head and my skin being uncomfortably sticky, but it's worth the fun and amazing view. My family does this about once every two months, although sometimes we would stick to cycling around East Coast Park, and my friends would perform this ritual during the June holidays. Oddly, as much as we like cycling, we don't have bicycles of our own. Well, my sister and I used to, but they broke, and as we got to secondary school, we started to simply not have the time to cycle anymore, so our parents didn't buy new ones for us.

Another leisure activity that my friends and I engage in would be visiting museums and galleries, especially those with historical items. My friends and I are, as this generation would call, nerds. We don't find joy in gaming or sleepovers, but instead, we love going to museums to study historical events, learn more about the past, or simply admire historical items. One of our favorite places is the National Gallery, which contains documents regarding the Malayan Emergency, Singapore's merger with Malaysia, and the separation. Most teenagers nowadays would find this boring, but for my friends and I, learning about the past being a glass panel away from one of history's most significant artifact isn't just fun, but also exciting.

Leisure activities like those above relieve my stress from school and makes life more meaningful, rather than just sitting behind a desk doing work. There's a balance between work and life, which I think is important for both students and those in the workforce.

There are countless activities that people of different age groups indulge in for leisure. One of my friends finds watercolour art an exceptional and unique activity.

Truth be told, I was horrible at blending colours using colour pencils and crayons. It was an absolute disaster and still is. That’s why its so fascinating to see how simple it was for random lines to magically revolve into artwork. She is an extremely talented artist and uses a wide range of good quality technique. I came across a few of her art pieces hung up around her room when I visited her place. It instantly caught my attention due to its vivid colours and beautiful drawings. It instantaneously lifted me up and felt calm and collected. She even gifted me bookmarks made from watercolour art which I still keep till this very day. I often spotted her in the canteen doing up a draft for her art pieces. She told me that it helped rejuvenate and refresh her mind whenever she needed a breather from school. Hopefully she becomes a renowned artist one day.

Another leisure activity is gardening. To my utter disbelief, I recently found out is that my father enjoys gardening. He has always been an athletic person, since middle school all the way to university, he played a numerous range of sports. From basketball, triple-jumping to cross country. I really admire my father for being so athletic and till this day he still exercises frequently.

It was pleasantly surprising that he had taken an interest in gardening. The last experience was when he gardened with teenagers and children as an activity for his work as a social worker. Not to stereotype, but I always pictured a green activist who was delicate and more soft-spoken to indulge in an activity like gardening. Someone who is hard working and a lot of patience, because plants need to be treated with utmost care. In spite of this, I understand my father’s point of view because gardening can be a very joyous experience and has a calming effect on us.

In my honest opinion, I feel that some part of it is true because as students, what we should be focused on is studying. Studying can most definitely be of good use to us in the future, as we constantly think ahead. Whenever we buzz around with our friends, questions like what tertiary education we want to go to is by far the hottest topic. Students have the constant drive and motivation to study well, so as to strive and work hard towards our goal.

Most of the time, we have to stay back till late, only getting back home around 8pm and still having to attend tuition and completing our homework that’s due the following day. This hectic schedule is something that enables Singaporeans to accomplish their goals and become greater, but has also placed tremendous stress on students.

Often times, we have limited time to even enjoy or indulge in our hobbies as a form of relaxation, especially in Singapore which is a fast-pace lifestyle and jam-packed schedules. With the influence and the expectations that our friends and family put on us, we tend to overwork ourselves to meet the demands of others.

However, we’re not robots, we cannot possibly accomplish everything. Often times we find ourselves in a slump or feeling burnt out. Well, there are many ways that people cope with it and as a means to unwind. Exercise is one way as many teenagers actually frequent the gym, running or even walking can also be a beneficial way. Many of my friends actually spend an hour or so doing the activities they enjoy. Similarly, I do too. Listening to music, lifting weights and talking with my family are my number 1 go to activities to destress and relax.

Just like the common phrase "There's a time to play and there's a time to study. " We just have to make the most of our time wisely and remember to take breaks.

Having said that, it is most definitely a fact that people tend to put in a lot of effort to accomplish tasks, often resulting in a lack of time for hobbies and activities. However, I feel that many teenagers have also learnt to cope and make the most out of our time, relaxing in our own ways.

Everyone knows that the most common leisure activities for teenagers to engage in nowadays is video games. They are always glues 24/7 onto their phones gaming with their friends from dawn till dusk. But for me, a leisure activity I would engage in with my family would be going for walkathon.

It's getting rare to see teenagers spending time with their parents as they are all distracted by social media. Things are different for me though. My parents love for us to spend time together. Usually on the weekends, we would go on walkathons, walking around Singapore. Of course we will have to look out for the weather. If it rains, it would be a pity and we would stay home. But when the sun is out, smiling brightly at us, we would be walking in the evening from malls to streets. Since Singapore is a small country, it is easy to reach certain places in just a few minutes despite it being stations away if you take the train. Going on walkathon with my parents is a way of family bonding as we would walk all over Singapore admiring the scenery ahead of us, taking pictures together.

Just a few days back, we went on a walkathon, walking from Suntect City to Chinatown. We were walking in the evening so the sky was getting darker as we walked. We walked from Suntec City to Raffles where we saw the Lau Pa Sat, a well known hawker centre located in the Central Business District (CBD) area. From there, we went on and walked to Ann Siang Hill, which is near Outram Park. Ann Siang Hill looked like a very traditional place and has the floral designs. There were lots of trees and vines on the stairs and small buildings. It felt like you went back into the past. After visiting Ann Siang Hill, we went to Chinatown, which was very crowded even though it was already 8 PM at night. The streets were packed with people and we had to squeeze our way through. It seems like we walked a lot, but in actual fact, it was only a short 9 kilometer walk. I would say it was not that exhausting but I definitely enjoyed it as my parents brought me to places that I’ve never come across before.

In all, leisure activities can come in many ways for different people to spend with one another. For me, it is simply just spending time with my family exploring places in Singapore we have never been to.

I feel that it depends on the different individuals, but personally, I agree with this statement as I can relate to it.

As a Secondary Four student, I spend more time studying for my examinations and completing my assignments rather than relaxing or taking some time off to pursue my interest. With the teachers rushing to complete our topics and throwing tons of assignments and practice papers at us for us to revise and prepare us for our upcoming O'levels, I spend lesser time out of the room as compared to in the past when I am going out regularly or have lots of free time to relax and do my own things.

Half the time, I would be packed with all the extra supplementary lessons conducted after school which would lead me to going home at a very late timing at night and adding on to the work load that I have to complete, it would make me have a very late sleep schedule. Being a graduating student, there would be lots of stressed being built up due to the mountain of lessons, work and revision that we have to do. Sometimes, the teachers would even unexpectedly give us more supplementary lesson after school which would lead to us going home even later than we should be.

Other than all the in school lessons, parents usually put their children up for tuition to improve their weaker subjects and help them. But at times it may just make the child more stress due to the amount of things that the child has to do. Students would always have this one main thought when it comes to studies. ‘I have to revise and do lots of work in order to pass’. Many might think that it is true but it is actually not the amount that you do but the amount that you can remember. The quantity of what you do does not matter as even if you revise a lot and do not remember anything that you learnt, it would be a waste of time. You would just be blankly studying. Revising would mean that you have to remember what you learn so that you would know how to apply it in your test and all. Students may be too stressed and over worked out at times to even realise that.

Therefore, I agree that some people work too hard and do not spend enough time relaxing. I feel that It applies the most to students, speaking from experience.

No I don't. Fishing, in my opinion, requires a lot of patience in order to catch a fish. It takes hours to catch just one fish, and the fish may even escape before I can draw the pole out. It's a waste of my time, and I'd grow frustrated and bored waiting for the fish in the scorching sun.

Another reason is whether or not the fish can be consumed. People usually release the fish back into the sea rather than bringing them home to eat. The basic answer is that we don't know whether the fish can be eaten. I don't want to become sick or poisoned just because I catch a fish. I'd rather go to the market and get fresh fish that was already clean for us.

Finally, fishing would include digging for worms. I dislike insects and Animalia in general, and worms are no exception. I would not dig for worms or even see them, even if digging tools were provided. It's really revolting to see them squirming in the soil.

To summarize, fishing does not appeal to me since it would be a waste of my time, not sure can be consumed and disgusting, which I could spend doing something more worthwhile.

I agree with the statement.

From a graduating student's point of view, I would say that studying has always been my priority. Because of this, there are many times when I exhaust all my efforts to revise and recap on topics, resulting in little to no rest time. Apart from the 8 to 9 hours of school, I would revise every day for about 2 hours. This daily routine, makes my day packed to the brim and deprives me of my time to unwind.

As a graduating student, who is taking my O-Levels this year, immense pressure would fall on my shoulders. With teachers constantly reminding us of our doomsday, and parents nagging at us to study and revise when they see us not doing so. For me, I would have a schedule to follow, what day to study what subject, when am I going to rest, and many others. However, my parents just don't acknowledge that. They feel that just because I am resting in front of them, it just means that I have been slacking the whole day. So there are many times when I want to take a break and unwind, but my parents don't allow me to do so.

Of course, apart from worrying about O-Levels, we the graduating students also have a lot of commitment to commit to. An example would be my Co-curriculum activity(CCA). At one glance it may seem like we are stepping down and giving all the workload to our juniors, but this isn't the case. Since they are new to leading the whole unit, we have to teach them a lot of things, offline and online. This also results in a lack of time to unwind and relax.

All in all, I feel that even though examinations and commitments are important, we need to have a balance of rest and work, in order to keep our health in check.

Many people say that rest is key to our learning and that it allows our brains to process the information that we have learnt. However this is easier said than done. And so I agree that we aren't spending enough time relaxing.

70 percent of Singaporeans have poor work-life balance. This means that majority of us are constantly working day and night to the point that we do not have time for ourselves. In my opinion, this is a really bad culture. Working long hours to fulfil the dream of becoming wealthy is one that many Singaporeans believe and it is beginning to consume us. Since young, our parents have always wanted us to live a rich and successful life. and so, they force us to study hard from the age of 7 to attain straight A's. As this mentality has been ingrained in our work, we continue this habit of grinding until we make buck. So this idea if becoming rich one day forms a vicious cycle of working non-stop. And its effects are beginning to show. Singapore is third in the world to be sleep deprived. This is also the reason why many people fall victim to diseases like hear attacks and diabetes.

Students are also included in this vicious cycle. We spend up to 12 hours on a daily basis in school. And with extra classes each day, the day can last up to 16 hours! It is insane that at such a young age, we are already programmed to work all the time. It is simply unhealthy. This is one of the reasons why students in singapore feel burnt out. This stressful lifestyle is the reason as to why some students feel depressed. It easy to tell us that grades are not everything. However in reality, the numbers in our report cards is what will depict the rest of our lives.

As much as we would want to do well in life, we often overlook the need of rest and result in overloading ourselves. And so it is important to rest as much as we work.

"Some people say we work too hard and do not spend enough time relaxing". I agree with this statement. In Singapore, it is commonplace for teenagers like me to receive large stacks of homework. A number of people would claim that we spend too much time on school work, and it can increase our stress levels.

Although some might argue that youths have ample amount of time to rest, the opposite is true. From my experience, the myriad of homework which has to be submitted the next day takes a toll on me. At times, the effort I put in to complete the homework is also exacerbated by the late release from school.

For example, I take design and technology and the perseverance that I must have should be at its culmination. The coursework practical which involves the use of a plethora of machinery and tools have to be used to join and separate materials. However, this requires much time as creating a product that can be functional may cause slight errors if wrongly made, and the entire artefact has to be renewed.

While it is a fact that teenagers work too hard, I must remember that the rigor that I go through is worth it. Not rushing the task that I have to complete and prioritizing my time would allow me to minimally expand on my break time.

I will have to side with these people and say yes, I believe that it is true that we work too hard and do not spend enough time relaxing, especially for those that are working.

An example of this would be my mother. She works very hard as a teacher and I think it is beginning to take a toll on her. As a teacher, her weekends, which should be used for her own relaxation, are occupied dealing with school-related matters. Especially since she started working at another primary school, she has been facing a lot more stress due to problems arising of her students and colleagues. As a result, the stress that my mother faces is only increasing. The weekends that she should be using to relieve her stress are still occupied creating lesson plans and marking assignments. Though I admire how much effort she places on creating engaging lesson plans so her students can learn better, it takes up much time that could be used for her to relax. Furthermore, she still has stacks of assignments to mark, which increases her stress as she becomes frustrated at the quality of the work submitted. Therefore, after a long week of work, my mother still comes home to more work, leaving her with little time to relax.

Why I believe that we should have more time to relax is so that our health, both physical and mental, does not deteriorate too quickly. In the example of my mother, I mentioned that her work is beginning to take a toll on her. At the age of 50, my mother is already facing a bunch of health problems, such as consistent aches throughout her body and falling sick more frequently. Others might advise my mother to exercise more often as a way to limit the occurrence of such problems, but she does not have the opportunity to do so due to her packed weekend. My mother also faces issues that cause her to feel stressed and agitated, affecting her mental health. Many days when she comes home, she will have a frown on her face from upsetting situations that happened during work. I feel that the more she continues her job, the faster her health will deteriorate. Therefore, I believe that we should spend more time relaxing. This way, we can continue to be healthy, as well as feel more refreshed and have the energy to overcome each exhausting day.

Hence, I believe that especially those who have jobs are working too hard and do not spend enough time relieving due to insufficient time

Frankly, I feel that this statement is subjective to a certain extent. According to the popular saying adults constantly throw at their kids - " Work hard, and play hard ", it is exceptionally crucial for us to strike a balance between the two, in order to prevent ourselves from overworking ourselves, or being too indulged in incessant relaxation.

This balance is also interpreted differently amongst various age groups, and it is evident in the ways we spend our time.

For an adult, they spend majority of their time staring into the souls of their laptops, stressing over meetings and statistical reports. To them, their view of relaxation translates to simply having the time to enjoy a cup of morning tea before having to relive the daily cycle of the working population - work, work, and more work.

To students, we are often buried in mountainous amounts of assignments and examinations, and as a graduating student myself, we spend long hours daily in our classrooms, digesting information constantly and intensely racking our brains for mathematical problems or essays. For us, our coping mechanism to the stress generated from school comes in many forms. Some of us prefer to go straight home after dismissal and take a deep nap, while others might prefer to walk to the nearby mall to have a short meal and chatting session with their friends.

As for children, it is needless to say that they spend most of their time playing and goofing around. Not having reached the age whereby they have to start opening up textbooks and understanding what they read, children have the most free time out of everyone else - consistent daily naptimes or even visits to the kids section of national libraries to enjoy immersing themselves in cartoony and colourful universes.

I do not entirely agree with this statement, but I do strongly think that striking a balance between work and play would definitely be beneficial to us in the long run!

As a family, we enjoy a plethora of different activities.

For one, shopping is a fairly common thing for us to do; we would visit different places like the City Square Mall and NEX and probably leave a mark on every other mall in Singapore. While shopping, we would have a calm walk around the place, and if we found anything we liked, we would head in and buy something. On my birthday a few years ago, my family and I went to Dhoby Ghaut to buy some gifts and have some family bonding time. While shopping, we would have a calm walk around the place, and if we found anything we liked, we would head in and buy something. We ate some Western food and bought a pair of headphones for me. I use that pair of headphones till the day it broke to ensure that my parents money didn't go to waste. These memories are important to me as they serve as a reminder of how much I treasure my family and are also a good way to increase my bond with them. I'm sure that in the future there will be other activities that I can do with my family to strengthen these bonds futher.

As for my friends, I would enjoy playing video games with them; usually I would play games alone. As no one seemed to play the games that I would play, eventually my friends decided to share with me one of their favorite games. I started playing it late last year and found out that there was a multiplayer option in the game. Now whenever we would have time, we would have an online video call while playing the game to have a good laugh and de-stress. Though I will always make sure to do this after all my work has been done so that I don't place more stress on myself the following day

Leisure activities are different for everyone, but for me, I find leisure activities a good way to take my mind off of things and create happy memories.

To me, I feel that this varies on every individual and how they decide to spend their time. However, as a graduating student, I can fully agree on this statement.

As a Secondary Four student preparing for my national examinations, my studies have always been placed as my first priority over anything else. Apart from the seven to eight hours of my time being dedicated to lessons in school, and the extra classes taking place after school in aims to aid students in catching up on revision, school could end as late as five. And on top of that, I still have to fork time out of my schedule for homework and revision, and all these tasks would take me till midnight to accomplish. Hence finding time to relax is a productivity guilt to me.

Since young, my parents and teachers often tell me that my future depends on what I do now, and it is not erroneous of them to say that. Us students are aiming for a better future, and hence the strong drive and determination to work towards our goals, which leads us to studying for longer hours no matter how tired out we are. This common mentality results in little to no time to relax and play around, as every second that passes is precious to us.

Besides having lessons and making time for revision, parents also sign their children up for tuition classes in hopes of them achieving better results in the various subjects. Though this does serve as a benefit to students, it also adds on to their stress level as they have another item added to their list to worry about, be it homework or an upcoming tuition test. For example, apart from school and remedial lessons, my mother signed me up for three other tuition classes to better improve my grades. Yes it does serve as a benefit to me as I get to clear my misconceptions with my tutors and get a clearer picture of the various topics, but it only adds on to my stress as I’d have to constantly worry about my assignment datelines and I sometimes even have to rush through my work the night before the due date. This makes time for relaxation almost impossible.

Although having commitment and determination towards our studies play a key importance to our bright future, we should foster a balance between work and rest in order to achieve not just better results, but for a better mental health in the long run!

In my opinion, I unfortunately do agree that we spend too much time studying and not enough time relaxing. As a current Secondary 4 student with O-level examinations just around the corner, there is hardly any time to do anything other than studying and preparing for the major examination due to the overwhelming amounts for stress from our parents and our own expectations. This causes us to have a lot of weight on our shoulders which makes us study more in fear that we do not get the grade we want.

However, the effort put in to ensure that we get into the tertiary education we want has also caused many of us to get burnt out. Apart from the seven hours we spend in school, we also have enrichment programmes thrice a week which extends our school day till about nine hours. And despite that, our day does not end there. When we get home during late evening, we still have to finish our daily school work and also do self revision. And that leaves us with practically no free time to indulge in the things we want to do.

On top of school and enrichment classes, most of us also have tuition to further improve on our studies and that also takes up most of our time as we do not only have tuition for one subject but for multiple. Which adds on to the workload we have as we would have to complete tuition work along with the other piles of work that we have. And despite the fact that we have holidays which many would think is a day for us students to relax, as the graduating cohort, we would have to go back to school for extra enrichment programmes, go for extra tuition or just study at home with hardly any time to go out with friends.

Which is why I do in fact agree with that we work too hard due to the numerous tuitions, enrichment programmes and work we have, and do not spend enough time doing time relaxing.

I strongly agree with this statement, as do many of my classmates and schoolmates. This statement isn't just an Asian stereotype or joke, but is actually the reality for us here.

This unhealthy culture of overworking and the lack of a work-life balance is so widespread and prominent in Singaporean lifestyle that we've normalized it. For examples, both my parents often work late into the night and my sister and I have CCAs or supplementary classes that keeps us in school until seven in the afternoon. This means that family dinners are scarce, and we don't really get the chance to talk throughout weekdays. Family outings takes place only once a week during the weekend, of which my parents would still be on their phones messaging colleagues and I'd be revising for my weighted assessments. This has been the norm for some time now, so a few weeks back when our grandparents from Penang stayed with us during their visit, they were appalled. Among the things that they said was, "you guys seem to only tell two sentences a day to each other." The unfortunate thing is that it wasn't an exaggeration- it was a fact.

Another way this unfortunate cycle of overworking can be seen in our mental health. A survey was taken not too long ago asking Singaporeans if they were experiencing stress and how much of it are they facing. 86% responded that they are indeed stressed from work. In addition, statistics shows that Singaporeans have the least hours of sleep and have the most people facing fatigue, overtaking even countries notorious for their stressful work culture like Japan and South Korea. These aren't mere numbers- everyday I see a majority of classmates coming to school with eyebags, and some of them falling asleep in lessons. In more extreme cases, there has been a surge in mental health incidents such as the River Valley High School Axe Incident, and the attempted suicide by a girl on train tracks.

So it's not really an issue of laziness or negligence. Singaporeans, whether adult or student, are overworked and deprived of leisure time. Our mental state is overwhelmed, and many of us need a break; incidents in the past two years confirms it. This is why I strongly agree with this statement.

Leisure activities such as fishing would not appeal to me. If my family member were to mention fishing, I picture a sad and lonely person sitting on a stool by the lake, digging for worms then placing it on the hook and then cast it into the lake, only to wait for a couple of hours before actually catching a few. It sounds boring and exhausting. Having to sit and watch whether the fishing line is being tugged on. I have two reasons on why I would find fishing distasteful.

Firstly, it's the amount of money I would have to spend on fishing accessories. Buying parts and parcels of fishing equipment already cost up to a $100 or above, what more having to spend money maintaining its performance. I do not have that kind of money to spend, especially with my hectic schedule, it'll be a waste of money if I don't get to use it often. Once I spend money buying them.

Secondly, it's the patience and tolerance that comes along with fishing. When I was brought to a fishing farm in Singapore at 7 years old, I complained endlessly about the fish not latching onto the hook. My parents told me, "Good things take time." Well, I beg to differ! As someone who can't keep still for long durations, let alone bringing me to fish, having to stay at a spot under Singapore's hot and humid conditions, with the risk of being attacked by mosquitoes and other insects. I could never withstand it! Singapore's clammy weather isn't a conducive environment to enjoy a peaceful day of fishing.

In conclusion, I wouldn't find fishing appealing to me.

no it does not appeal to me.

First of all, I find fishing to be time consuming as it is boring and requires a lot of patience. grabbing a chair, hooking the worm on the fishing rod, and just sitting there for possibly hours just to catch a fish and throw it back, is kind of meaningless.

Secondly, even if I throw it back, the fish is still injured from the sharp hook that has pierced its mouth. Yet, fishes do feel the panic when it is out of their usual habitat. they may even die from heart attack because of the trauma. Though i should feel a sense of accomplishment, I don't. I consider it as emotionally abusing animals just for the fun of it. It's horrible. it's like I suddenly got thrown in the water, unable to get up and breath, and something sharp hooks in my mouth. Just thinking of the scenario can make me shiver.

Lastly, the tools needed for fishing is costly, like a fishing rod, fishing reel and artificial baits. it would be a waste of money if I tried it once and throw it to the side, never using it again. I might even need to dig up worms from the dirt which is extremely revolting and tedious.

Therefore, fishing is a pretty meaningless activity and a messed up one as well. hence it does not appeal to me.

I agree with this statement for a multitude of reasons.

For students, whether it be in Singapore or any other country,we would all have the same opinion on homework: we hate it. With seven subjects and many after-school activities like remedial lessons or co-curricular activities, students may find themselves having a hard time balancing the many stacks of homework with these activities. Furthermore, we are expected to also study while doing all of the other tasks, and I find that students have little time to actually expand on their hobbies and goals. Though I have to say that at least students get school holidays and can rest for a period of time, they still have time to work on things they enjoy. Since students are young, they should also try out more things so that they can expand their scope of hobbies. If students can expand their scope of hobbies, they might find a job that they are more passionate about and enjoy working in.

I cannot say the same for adults; many adults work for just as long as a student stays in school; for several hours on end, they have to stand or do practical work. I have seen elderly people work to give out flyers to earn just a few extra dollars, which makes me feel very sympathetic. Many people will have a hard time actually working, as most people will find their passions and jobs misaligned. For athletes in particular, they may find themselves having a hard time getting the training they need to excel, and even so, only a few achieve stardom. Artists, like singers or radio podcasters, and e-gaming sports players will have an even harder time. With so much emphasis being placed on people needing to earn money and working hard to support themselves and their families, many people still find their adult lives just as stressful as being students.

People nowadays put too much emphasis on working hard and not on things they might enjoy.

Personally I totally agree with statement as a sec4 student I can relate to this.

As a graduating student, I spend way more time studying compared to relaxing. Most of my school days I have to stay till 6 in school due to CCA and supplementary lessons. And only can reach home by 7. After that I still have tons of homework that are thrown by teachers. Even weekends when we are supposed to rest have zoom lessons for us to attend. This packed schedule really doesn't allow us to have time to well relax ourself. Nevertheless, this allows Singapore students to acquire knowledge and develop skills necessary for their future careers. However, excessive studying can also lead to burnout and stress, which can have negative consequences on their physical and mental health. It's essential to take breaks, engage in hobbies, and spend time with friends and family to avoid burnout and promote well-being.

On the other hand, relaxation is also crucial for us as it allows us to reduce stress levels, improve their mood, and recharge our energy. However, too much relaxation without enough productive work can lead to procrastination and poor academic performance.

In summary, while studying hard is essential for academic success, it's equally important for us to take breaks, engage in hobbies and spend time with loved ones to promote our well-being. Striking a balance between work and relaxing is key to achieving success and personal growth.

In this life, people choose to work hard to find unsecured success. But when it comes to knowing when to relax, it seems like it is a foreign topic for many. In my opinion I agree that we do work too hard and do not spend enough time to relax.

Singapore is a very small country. Since our independence, we’ve had to work hard to survive and thrive as just a very small part of the globe. Because of this, future generations like us now, are born into the fact that we must study and work very hard, just to have a chance at a good school, good university, and good opportunity at a high paying job. Because we are taught these principles and constantly told to work hard since our elementary years, most people have this mindset. That we have to constantly work hard to achieve success and only then can we rest and enjoy the fruits of our labour.

As a student myself, I can safely say that this group is a living and breathing example of the statement. That we work too hard and don’t spend enough time relaxing. I have a friend whose story I will use as an example. Form the very start of the year, as all students do, she is required to go to school. From then, her cycle of studying day and night begins. From eight am to four or five pm, she is in school, studying and taking supplementary lessons. When she gets home, has only a few hours left before bed. She has to study for upcoming exams such as Weighted Assessments on top of finishing her homework and getting it done well. By the time she is done for the day, it is time for bed.

Arguably, you could say that she has time over the weekend to relax. However, due to the two day break she gets, she has much more work to do. Any time she gets, she is either studying for upcoming tests or trying to get her work done by given deadlines. Even over the holidays, like June holidays or term breaks. She is required to go back to school for either CCA or supplementary and remedial lessons. It is almost like time is right behind, chasing and catching up to her. There is simply no time to relax.

Ergo, I agree completely that we work too hard and do not spend enough time relaxing. Even as it is important to work hard, it is equally important to have time to relax. Even the sun and moon need to take a break sometimes, as the sun sets everyday and the moon rises every night. If we are constantly up and running, we will eventually wear ourselves out.

I have a neutral opinion about this statement, although I do partially agree with it.

Singapore is ranked as the number one most competitive country in the world. Well, it's quite obvious in my school on why it's competitive. I am constantly surrounded by friends who compete to be first in academics or CCAs, wanting to top everything. Not saying it is a bad thing, but it has come to a point that we have to work extremely hard to get it, to the extent of burning the midnight oil. As a secondary four student, taking my Os, I feel immense pressure from CCA commitments and the never-ending pile of school work. There were some tough times when I overworked myself and fell sick afterwards, or having a migraine. I would say most students in Singapore feel like they have worked too much, to the extent that there's not time spared for relaxation and enjoyment.

My parents used to say, "Why aren't you studying? If you don't study hard now, you are not going anywhere in life." Now, they say, "Hey, relax a bit. I know it is your final year but learn to chill." I find it a bit ironic, because before that parents always tell us to study hard so we succeed, but when we do study hard, they tell us to not take it hard on ourselves. However, I feel like working too hard only hits at certain stages of our life. One example, would be my Father, majority of the time, I don't see him come home past midnight. When I ask him the next day, he tells me his boss made him work over-time to complete some documents, regarding overseas clients. At this age, I would say that adults are working too hard and there's never enough time for them to relax. Whereas, if you compared it to a child, whose main objective in life was just to have fun, then they're relaxing too much.

I would say some of us, including me have a very hard time balancing work and life. Sometimes, I want to go out and relax, maybe take a breather from the stressful work environment I'm surrounded by, but when I do, I create this guilt in me. It is like my conscious is telling me, "Hey! You should be studying, you have no time to relax!" Then, I go back to studying. Of course, there are some people in this world that live a life where they can actually manage their time, where there's sufficient time to rest and work. But in Singapore, it's the norm for everyone to say to each other, "Yea, I worked over-time again." or, "Yea, I stayed up all night just to complete my work." As for now, I would say I am working too hard, since I pulled an all-nighter with my friend, just to complete my art assignments.

In summary, as much as there are different views and opinions on this, we all should strive to find a balance between personal life and work, in order to get the best out of both worlds.

There is no doubt that many people work long hours and have a lot of responsibilities, which can make it difficult to find time to relax and recharge. This can have negative effects on physical and mental health, relationships, and overall well-being. It's important to find a balance between work and leisure time in order to maintain a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle.

However, it's also worth noting that what one person considers "relaxation" may not be the same for another person. For some, relaxation may involve spending time with loved ones, engaging in a hobby or physical activity, or simply taking a break from technology and the stresses of daily life. Others may prefer quieter activities like reading or meditation.

As a student, it's easy to get caught up in the demands of schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and social obligations. However, it's important to remember that relaxation and self-care are crucial for maintaining a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. For example, taking breaks to go for a walk or spending time with friends and family can help reduce stress and improve overall well-being. It's also crucial to prioritize sleep, exercise, and healthy eating habits in order to maintain physical and mental health. By balancing academic responsibilities with relaxation and self-care, we can relieve our built up stress and take better care of ourselves.

Ultimately, the balance between work and relaxation will vary from person to person, and it's important to prioritize what works best for one's own health and happiness. It's also worth considering how social and economic factors can affect people's ability to find time for relaxation and leisure, and we should work towards creating a society that values and supports a healthy work-life balance for all.

I agree with the statement.

Speaking from a Secondary 4 student, facing my major examination this year, there's a lot of revision to be done. In addition, I have supplementary and CCAs to manage. Especially because SYF was held during my examination period, I had difficulties managing my school work and was burnout. Moving closer to O levels now, I have to quicken my revision for all 9 subjects. Often, I sacrifice my sleep to study, feeling tired the next day. Eventually, this becomes a cycle, and I do not spend enough time to rest and relax.

Besides that, teachers often emphasize to us that we just need to work hard for these few months and we would be able to relax after O level. Keeping this mindset, students like me tend to push and stress ourselves a lot. However, we forget that though studying is important to us, our health is still the priority. I've seen many examples of students who were too stressed, resulting in depression. Not only mental health but physical health too. This year, I have been unwell really frequently, once even fainted. This shows that we don't spend enough time resting and relaxing.

Though it is said that we should take a break from work if we are tired, I believe many would still continue with work and push themselves more. Insufficient rest and time to relax, completing our work

I agree with this statement. Singapore is one of the countries that have a high percentage of people who have said that work and study commitments were their greatest source of stress. As a secondary 4 student who is studying for O-levels, I can definitely say that I am under immense stress. Our day starts depending on our waking hours and it is usually in the wee early hours of the morning. School starts at 8am and ends at around 3pm. After curriculum time is over, time practices or co-curricular activities will step in. Everyday is packed with long hours spent in school and fatigue accumulating. When we are finally released from school, what awaits us at home is the pile of homework we are assigned. Additionally, we have to study for all our upcoming examinations. In order to complete our towering duties, we spend our own sleep time to finish them which amplifies our fatigue. Guess what? As a reward for sleeping late, the black eye rings and dark eye bags that forms each night make us look like adorable pandas. So the results are, the learning never ends but our mental health is gradually decreasing. And, this nightmarish schedule repeats itself every weekday.

Now, if people think weekends are when we can finally rest, oh how wrong they were. Our weekends are packed with even more homework and revision. On top of that, many has to go for tuitions or some may even be working part-time jobs. However, there are days when we can break free from our busy schedule and are definitely thankful for that. On those days, we will spend much time relaxing that some may call us unproductive or even lazy. However, I would say that it’s a much deserved rest. In conclusion, I would say we work too hard and do not have enough time to relax but will still find time to recharge ourselves.

I agree that we work too hard and do not spend enough time relaxing. Being a Singaporean student, school starts at 7:30 a.m. in addition, graduating students like myself, end at 5 or 6 p.m. We travel for about an hour or so to return home and even longer due to the peak hours. By the time our homework is completed we have to go to bed to get the optimal amount of sleep for the next day. The only relaxation time we have is while travelling to school or during our recesses.

On weekends, we have enrichment classes, two hours per subject, and a bigger pile of homework to complete. If there isn't homework, which would only happen when pigs fly, we have to study for weighted assessment and time practices. Practice papers left and right. Endless amount of studying. The only relaxation we have is taking a nap during breaks to energise ourselves for the next worksheet.

However, once every blue moon, we get a day without a single homework to complete or a exam to study for. On those days, I would thank the gods for giving us a miracle and indulge in a diamond art painting or build more lego figurines for my collection. To some extend, yes, I agree that we work too hard and do not spend enough time relaxing. But if we spend the little pockets of time like travelling to and fro from school or during recesses to relax. It might not be enough but it still is something.

I agree with this statement. As a student, the workload given to us is too much. I know for a fact that there are many of us is having less that what we are required for sleeping. some might not even get any sleep at all!

For example, having to wake up at 6 in the morning and going to school for around seven to eight hours is tiring enough. yet we still have to attend supplementary classes or stay back for CCA which can last to 5-6:30pm. Not to mention that some of us have tuition, which subtracts the time for resting. with all the schedule we have to follow, some teachers try to fit in another extra lesson time after school or during weekends like zoom classes. In addition, the homework they give us is sometimes a bit too much. Which, again, caused us to have lesser time of relaxing. There are even examination for us to stress about, especially O levels. Students would study until late night for it because we want to do well, for our future. And i wonder why we're expected to have everything under control and have a perfect 8 hour sleep.

Other than students, I believe that adults also have a lot of work to do. Because they need to maintain the shelter above their heads, have enough food and water for themselves and their older parents or kids. Adults need to work hard in order to not go bankrupt and lose their jobs. once they do, that's it for them. I do not know much about the adults but for sure I know some does not get enough rest either. my parents usually work in morning, coming back home until night. I never really know how they seem so casual about it even if it exhausts them.

we get stressed and because of the lack of rest, we can become sleep deprived which affects our focus in work. Then that affects our studies. in return, teachers would then give more work, which makes us more stressed and give us lesser time to rest. then it loops again and again. Our body needs enough time to rest so we can properly work the next day.

I strongly agree with this statement and so would many others living in Singapore. WIth prices and cost of living increasing, we tend to neglect our leisure time to push ourselves over the limit and work harder but this disrupts the balance between work and relaxing which would eventually lead to burnout or being overstressed. Which is why i agree that some people work to hard and dont spend as much time relaxing.

As a teenager I sacrifice alot of my time to focus on academic and extracurricular activities like my CCA which is very time consuming as it takes place 3 times a week or the constant pressure to do well for exams by my parents. This often results in me struggling to keep a work and leisure balance in my life. Especially with a major examination upcoming, it adds up more stress and can be overwhelming at times. Most of my time at home these past few weeks have been spent on doing revision or homework and the weekends have been packed with tuition. There is almost little to no relaxation time for me however I do understand that it is due to the upcoming major examination but there could be others who are under immense pressure from the huge workload. A lack of relaxation can lead to a decrease in creativity and productivity which may have negative effects in the long run.

Not only do teenagers struggle with balance but so do adults. As the cost of living increases, working adults are pressured into working for longer hours or putting in too much effort in thier projects. Not only do they have to worry about the huge workload but also their responsibilities and commitments such as taking care of family which could add even more stress. For example, after a long tiring day of work they could come home and have to spend even more time and effort to take care of their family.

Despite most people who spend to much time working hard instead of relaxing, i try to balance my life by setting some time aside to practice the piano. Playing the piano helps me destress myself as its a time where im able to creatively express myself but overall I think that many other students in singapore are in the same boat as I am and may not have any hobbies or time to help destress themselves.

Some people say we work too hard and do not spend enough time relaxing whats your opinion.

Seeing people around me working diligently and not taking a break to relax themselves, I agree. Country like Singapore, has a high standard of living . In order to survive in this expensive little red dot, many Singaporeans adults have to work diligently to provide themselves or their family a living. Everything in Singapore is expensive, the living expense, the bills and the GST fees. This turns Singapore into a workaholic country, and in people’s eyes, work, is the only thing that will keep them going. For example, I’ve seen many parents nowadays working round the clock to generate income to sustain their family, sacrificing their time and health. They did not have the time to take a break and smell the rose, flying to other explore other countries, enjoying themselves. This leads to a sedentary lifestyles, resulting in an unbalanced lifestyle.

Singapore is also well known for its education. This results to every student being placed in a highly competitive rice cooker. Parents believed that by sending their children to extra enrichment lessons, they will enhance their child’s learning. Students have to work hard to strive for excellence academic performance to make their parents proud. They often neglect to set aside a some time to relax themselves. For example, according to the health system organisation , an estimated amount of 44 percent of students worldwide have been suffering from mental disorder. As the saying goes by” work hard and play hard”, it is essential for the students to take a hiatus from school and enjoy themselves. Studies may be important but mental health is also equally important and should not be neglected.

To sum up, I believed that everyone who worked hard deserved to take a break to recharge themselves and relax their mind. A healthy body, is the key to sucess. We should learn to juggle work between worklife and healthy lifestyle.

No, leisure activities like fishing don't appeal to me at all. I never found the idea of catching a fish then either throwing it back or eating it enticing. If we were to throw it back in the water, then what's the point of catching it? That would be quite a waste of time. I don't enjoy consuming seafood either. The smell is unbearable and it might contain mercury due to the water and the food they take in which will harm the nervous system. So, the point of fishing is basically redundant which doesn't make it appealing to me.

On top of that, there are many websites that deem fishing as animal cruelty as the fishing will harm the fishes. An example of how the fishes are harmed in the process would be that the fishes die to psychological stress. This is, in fact, a common fate that fishes have after being caught. Since it is considered animal cruelty and is therefore discouraged, I don't see why I would want to go fishing.

As such, no, leisure activities like fishing don't appeal to me.

Well, there's quite a lot of leisure activities I could do with my friends as well as my family, but there are two that I do most often.

The first one that comes to mind when thinking of leisure activities would going shopping, especially at plaza singapura and bugis. I would often bring my friends and my family to these two places as there are a considerable amount of things we can buy there that would rather useful to us. An example would that both places sell art supplies, with bugis being home to bras basah, which contains a variety of different art stores for people who are interested in any form of art, rom traditional art to literature, music and digital art, me and most of my friend would have something there to catch our eye.

The second leisure activity we do I would like to bring up is that we would often do would be to take photos of just about anything. As my father was a photographer, and had taught my brother and I how take photos, we would often take photos of things we see when on our way home from school or to anywhere. We really go out of our way go somewhere just take a photo, but once we see something worth taking a photo of, we would try to get every angle and experiment with the angles and lighting. As such, my brother and I have taken many photos of scenery and people at school and at mrt stations.

In my opinion, whether we have enough time to relax or not depends on the position and responsibilities of that person and what other commitments they have. This reasoning is why I find it rather infuriating when someone tells another person that everyone has work to do and all equally busy. Because we're not. Yes, everyone is busy, but not to the same extent.

For example, there a lot of people who have too much work to do that there isn't enough time for them to relax. One example of people who fall into this group would be people who have leadership positions as more work will be given as such. People with leadership roles tend to given more work as they are seen responsible, then, after having more work, they have look after other people. As they have to also get the people they are leading to do work as well, this often comes off as unbearable and nosey to everyone else which in turn makes them not want to do work which creates more issues for the person in the leadership position.

On the other hand, there people who have more than enough time to themselves. Although not very common, there are a lot of people who are lucky to get a manageable amount of homework from their teachers, then not revise their work, not help out at home and are backbenchers who don't have to offer to help in class or in cca. Such people have more than enough time to spend relaxing.

As such, I think not everyone has enough time to spend relaxing, and therefore we should not judge the workload of others based on our own or another person.

I do agree that some people really do work too hard and barely have any time to relax. Especially in a country like Singapore, where work for most is approximately from 7am to 6pm.The workforce are focused on making a living in Singapore, which to some, is an expensive country. Personally, my parents, who are in the workforce, spend most of their time working, usually coming back at 7pm or sometimes even 9pm.Thus, I have only seen them relax at home for a short while before heading for sleep to prepare for another weekday. Weekends are mostly free for my parents as they either stay at home or go out to explore the amenities in Singapore. However, sometimes they would work during the weekends. Thus, they barely have any time to relax at all due to their busy hard working jobs.

Singapore is also one of the countries with a reputable education system. With many different schools which vary in their acceptance scores, some students have to work hard to get into their dream school. All are working hard and trying to get good grades and end up hopefully in a better school in their next educational phase. As a student in Singapore, I usually wake up at 6am early in the morning to prepare to go to school. This would then be followed by a few hours of lessons, a few recess breaks and Co-curricular activities. This would all usually end at 5-6pm in the evening. With additional classes such as tuition and zoom lessons with teachers and other students, I barely have any time to relax.Students who want to achieve better would even sacrifice some sleep. Thus, I feel that people work too hard and have too little time to relax.

I do agree with it. Many adults nowadays all spend their time working non-stop. When there's a chance to work overtime, they would not hesitate to agree with it as they wanted more salary. If we tell them to go out to have a walk in the park or even going out with their family, they would come out with excuses like they are busy with work or that they have no time. I think they have this mindset of working hard enough so that they could earn money to raise the family, i agree that this is important, but isn't spending time with their family, relaxing more important.

Working too hard isn't good for the body too. It causes heath problems such as aches on different parts of the body, type two diabetes or even coronary heart disease. The one most deadly would be coronary heart disease. When we work non-stop, we would not pay attention to what we eat during work. Most of them would choose to eat instant noodle, or some snacks with consist of high sodium content like potato chip. All this things increase the risk of getting coronary heart disease.

Another reason why we shouldn't work too hard is because we would lack physical exercise. Instead of staring into the screen, pressing the keyboard non-stop, it is a better choice to take a break from work and spend time outside. We already not having a proper diet, therefore we need to have regular exercise to burn all this calories off, or else this would only cause more and more health problems.

Hence, i think that people should get their hands off from work and instead spend time outside with their love ones.

Unfortunately, due to my family's busy schedule, we have been unable to participate in many leisure activities as a family recently. However, I will mention a few leisure activities we used to do in the past.

Firstly, a leisure activity my family used to engage in is board games. After dinner, my sister and I would pick a board game from our cupboard full of them, and eagerly rush to our parents' room. All four of us would sit on the floor and begin playing. We would play until the clock struck midnight and our parents ushered us back to our room to sleep. My family engaged in this leisure activity as it was a way that we could bond over something exciting and enjoyable. In the room, only laughs and smiles were produced.

Secondly, a lesiure activity my family, particularly my mother engages in, is gardening. Outside my ground floor apartment is a small garden, abundant with various types of plants and flowers. In the past, I would enthusiastically follow my mother around, waiting to give her a helping hand. I would carry a pink elephant watering can, watering the plants whenever my mother instructed to. While my mother busied herself by cutting the grass, I would bombard her with questions, of which she would patiently respond to. Now, I rarely accompany her in this activity as I find my electronic more entertaining. However, the next time my mother goes out to the garden, I will surely accompany her.

Though my family and I rarely engage in leisure activities as a family, I will place importance and put in effort to try and convince my family to revive these nostalgic activites.

I think most people of every age should be guilty of this. As a student, our parents always tell us to study hard and get good grades so that we have a good future. After hearing this many people get worried about their future. They continuously study but they don’t realise that they can only concentrate for a while after that nothing that they study actually goes into their brains.there are many studies that have been done to prove this.average human can only focus fully for 30 min after that he needs to recharge by taking a break.

Many students have a misconception that working life is better than student life. As a tamil proverb when translated to english says ‘ the land on the other side is greener than this side’ what it means that what cannot be attained will always seem amusing and far better than what one has. For example when we are student we think adult life is better but adult life is worst then student life. In adult life we have to work even on saturdays and we only have 1 day holiday which is sunday. Some times we might even have to work overnight. If u own a business it gets even worst. You might have to be open everyday to get maximum profits.but in life we never actually have time to rest, the more u rest the more u get lazy and end up wasting time which puts u at the losing end.

I agree with the statement that people work too hard and don't relax.

My perspective as a student is that students in singapore do not get sufficient rest or take breaks when necessary. As a student, we spent most of our days in school. We spent around 7 hours in school just for the curriculum not even including the countless hours of remedials, supplementary, CCA and other after school activities. We also are given homework with short due dates. We are also required to revise for upcoming test. Where can a student find time to relax when overwhelmed with this many tasks. It just becomes a routine where relaxation isn't given time. Especially, as a graduating student since o level exams are coming up I have the constant need to study so I don't slack or for the constant reassurance that I will do well in my exams. Even if I actually found time and decided to relax. My parents find it irresponsible of me to not be studying and instead looking at my phone. Due to the persistent nagging from parents I feel guilty to relax and that is not how it should be.School holidays may be there for students to relax but I don't understand how one is supposed to relax when there is a pile of homework that is given to be completed during school holidays. I can assure you no graduating student has time for hobbies and doing activities they enjoy. The competitive spirits of Singaporeans cause them to work even better to be better than others. Burning the midnight oil and having 2 to 3 hours of sleep has become a norm in the lifestyle of students.

Therefore, I agree that we work too hard and don't spend sufficient time to relax.

My family has done many different leisure activities before.

For one, my family and I have been cycling out and about before. We would start cycling around the general neighborhood on the bicycle path and look at the scenery. My mother actually gave me the idea for this activity as an exercise and a nice family bonding session. We then each went to purchase a bicycle of our liking. I remember choosing a jet black one with green patterns on it, and though at that time it took me a bit to get used to cycling, eventually I was able to keep up with my family and cycle across the paths. There was this one path that ran through a very green part of the park that we would always take a rest on, eat some snacks on, and have a little chat on. Then we would go home exhausted. It was a fun leisure activity, though nowadays I have less time to go on such leisure activities due to my needing to finish my homework and focus on my studies.

As for my friends, though, I still play quite a bit of basketball with them. If I am not feeling very hungry during my recess times, I will always go to the parade square and play some basketball with my friends. I started my interest in basketball when I was still in primary school, and I joined the basketball CCA back then. I won quite a few inter-school competitions, and eventually, when I got into secondary school, I still decided to play it every now and then. It is a relaxing activity for me due to how much I can really de-stress and have a good time with my friends.

Leisure activities have different types, and I realize that most of my leisure activities are outdoors. However, I hope that someday I can find a more indoor activity or even a solo leisure activity I can enjoy alone.

As a student, I cannot speak for most people, but I realize that most people nowadays really have a lot of work on their hands.

As a student, I would always wake up super early and get home sometimes at six in the evening due to after-school activities. Furthermore, the amount of homework I have is enough to keep me occupied for an hour or two. Adding on study time makes my schedule always packed, to the point where I only have weekends and holidays to really explore my hobbies and interests. I would much rather play video games, but every day when I get home from school, I know that I need to complete my work before anything else. After completing my work, I would take a break before a quick study session. Then, finally, I can play some games. I reckon that sometimes I might procrastinate due to the amount of work I have to do, which makes me feel overwhelmed, leading to less work being done.

As we age into the adult years, I realize that adults work just as hard, if not harder, than students, though I think that there are many jobs that are fun and relaxing. Most people do not have that kind of privilege. Society always seems so focused on working hard and the education system that some people seem to forget the hobbies that they have. If we all have our own passions and interests, shouldn't those come before the interests of others? Or is that a selfish thought?

As a family, we rarely get the opportunity to participate in leisure activities as a family.

But when we do get the opportunity, we usually end up going to the movies. As a family we have a annual gathering to watch a movie. The movie usually tends to be a Chinese movie or movies from Singapore. Specifically movies which were made by Jack Neo. I remember doing this as long as 8 years ago. We tend to spend the whole day together as a family, going out for lunch and spending time together because we don't often get to. Then we would go watch the movie at night. I remember always ordering a drink and nacho chips to enjoy during the movie. I will always be laughing while snacking watching the movie.

Another leisure activity is cycling. My parents taught me how to ride a bicycle when I was in primary school. I remember during the school holidays we would go to East Coast Park to rent some bicycles. When I was 8 years old, I received my first bicycle as a birthday present. It was a blue coloured bicycle with only 2 wheels. My grandmother would supervise me while i'm riding the bicycle under the HDB void decks. At East Coast Park, I remember my brother would have to share the 2 seater bicycle with my grandmother as he was unable to cycle. Then my mother and I would race each other to the end. It was always a fun time but at the same time exhausting. We would go to the nearby Mcdonalds after cycling to replenish our energy.

Sadly, nowadays we don't get to spend as much time together or do fun activities. But we still do go out for dinner often and watch movies.

I think most teenagers these days tend to overwork and not have enough time to destress. I am still able to have a bit of spare time to do my own things.

I do believe that due to having to wake up early in the morning for school and returning to school late because of supplementary lessons, teenagers do not manage to have enough of their own free time. Not to mention, there is still homework to complete after returning home. By that time, it would be the evening time and we would be extremely tired. Most end up sleeping late due to revision or homework which makes them exhausted in the morning. Even the weekend is taken up due to having extra classes and tuition. Not doing work first will tend to make them stress and worried about not being able to complete the work and if they do the work first they will be too tired to do our own activities.

Personally, I believe that our time now is still manageable but as we age, we would have less time to do our own activities. It is best to learn how to time manage now and take as much time right now to enjoy while studying. In the future, we might look back and regret not spending enough time relaxing or with family. I think that people nowadays forget to take time for themselves and end up having a lot of pressure and stress from work.

My family usually dont have bonding sessions however when we do, we would resort to cycling. Cycling for us, is a activity where we all can have fun with the least amount of effort. In the past, we would rent bikes from the east-coast park and cycle for about two hours in the area. It would at least cost $20 for one bike if i remember correctly. Back then, my grandparents were visiting singapore so we would rent the family bike with 4 seats and the rest of the family would ride our own individual bikes.

However, we have not spent much family time together since. But, when we discovered rental bikes around singapore and things have became more convenient. Such as anywheel, it can be found almost everywhere. It is way cheaper than renting bikes from the ecp bike rental shops. Recently, my family went to cycle at puala ubin. We rented bikes each for 18-20 dollars each and cycled for two hours. It felt so refreashing to get out after being cramped with my studies. And i loved how close I felt to nature. Even when it started raining, we continued to enjoy the moment. After two hours of cycling, we returned back. However we could not just end our day like this when it was still 6.30pm. Hence we rented bikes using our anywheel apps and decided to cycle until we reached east coast park. It took about three hours. However, I did not feel tired at all insted i loved the freedom i felt. When we finally reached ecp, my bottom was sore from the hard seating but i did not regret it one bit. To end off the day, we had dinner with refreashing drinks to celebrate our day.
