Ever since then Tibet has been struggling for their freedom from China. When China took over their government was destroyed and it led to the destruction of their culture and religion. For a while the Tibetans were semi-autonomy which they were fine with for a while, but ended up getting a meeting together to try to change it. They got stuck with the semi-autonomy. China remained in control of Tibet, but they got to control their internal affairs such as armies.
