She was born in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, She worked as a math teacher but then she jointed the segregated NASA and with that she refuses to use the colored bathrooms or to allow prejudice to make her feel small. Though she comes up against racism more than once at the NASA, she maintains her sparkplug personality and manages to charm everyone she comes into contact with, without losing sight of her dedication to her work and her community. In one memorable event, astronaut John Gleen -who doesn’t trust the calculations performed by NASA’s new IBM computers—asks Johnson to double-check the numbers for his flight trajectory and landing, and she does so successfully. In this movie that is clearly showed through many scenes. Movie showed how women were treated those days, based on their race. Gender equality plays huge role in this movie as no-one let them do same jobs as mens are doing. Characters have many obstacles in their way, such as dealing with everyday racism and comments. Women in this film were given orders from everyone, didn’t have their ‘I’ and were treated to work harder than anyone.
