Marcus Abbott survived an improvised explosive device in which he was knocked out and sustained traumatic brain damage. The picture down below has an example of an IED. The one that injured Abbott was thought to be a dud, however, a part of it exploded causing injury, though thankfully no one was killed. Thankfully, because his "vegetative" state didn't last for over a day, his recovery did not take a significant part of his life up, it took a while, however, it could have taken much longer than 1 month in which he was allowed to return to his mission. This could be the cause of damage to this lobe coupled with the sound of the explosions. MN

Trying to recover from brain damage is a tough and long process. Many people have to relearn how to do different things. Marcus Abbott himself, took a few months to recover, however, he never completely recovered emotionally from the close call to almost loosing his life. Now, he plays football as it helps to keep his mind off of what happened to him in Afghanistan. MN
