Martin Luther king jr. was born on the 15th of January 1929 in his grandparents located in Atlanta, Georgia. He was given the birth name of Michael which at the time was the same as his father. Later they both changed their names to Martin whilst he was still young. Martin jr was the second of three children. The first signifigant racial discrimination came when his was in pre-school and friended a white boy. They formed quite a bond but the white boys parents removed there son from that school as they were extremely discussed that they boy had found a 'coloured' friend. Before that he didn't know about or what racism was. After that indicate his mother explained do him about the segregation and history with the slave trade. Another racist encounter came whist traveling to a science fair on a school bus. The coloured children were forced the sit on one side bus whilst the white children sat on the other.

Martin Luther King Jr was most famous for his 'I have a dream' speech. On the 28th of August 1963, Martin Luther King Jr delivered his speech in Washington. He's goal was the stop the racism in America at the point in time. The 'coloured' community had certain laws stopping them from doing most thing that we would today think is perfectly ok. Some laws include black people not being allowed to sit next to white, not being allowed to drink from the same taps and being segregated in buses just to name a few. In Luthers speech he fought for cival and economic rights involing the black comunity. One of his most famous qoutes was "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” This is still one of the most powerful line to ever be said in human history.

I have linked the speech above.

During the last year of his life, Martin Luther King Jr faced extreme criticism as not alot of people agreed with what he was saying at the time. A group of young African-American didn't agree with his 'confrontational' approach to the racism at the time. Unfortunately, on the 4th of April 1968 he was assassinated by the leader of the group known as 'Malcom X' in Memphis Tennessee. He was shot on a balcony outside the second floor of his apartment. This caused outbreaks and racial violence, resulting in more than 40 deaths and over 100 properties with extensive damage over Amercian cities.
