the United Kingdom and the united states supported by the United Nations supporting South Korea, while communist China and the Soviet Union supported North Korea. the tension between communist and democratic forms of government strained relations between the Soviet Union and the United States and provided the concerning economic and political unfolding of the Cold War. The Korean War was important in the Cold War because it was the first time that the United States and the Soviet Union had fought in a proxy war. The proxy war would be a feature of other Cold War conflicts, for example, the Vietnam War. The difference between a proxy war and the cold war is that the proxy war is fought indirectly among influential countries by using a substitute army whereas a cold war is a direct form of conflict between powerful governments. the United States, Soviet Union, and Great Britain met in Germany, to figure out terms to conclude the bloodiest conflict the world had ever seen. The talks were meant to forge a lasting peace, but within 18 months, a Cold War began that lasted more than four decades. the war changed the course of the U.S. foreign and national security policy, attracting the U.S. to accept military involvement around the globe, even when in peacetime. The Korean War led to the further deterioration of relations between the United States and the Soviet Union. It caused the United States to take the Soviets more seriously. if the U.S. didn't take the soviets more serious it would result in a larger war
