Speaker of the House Henry Clay speaks in support of John Quincy Adams which gives Adams the support he needs for the majority of electoral votes. Adams then appoints Clay as his secretary of states. This ignites cry among Jackson supporters of a corrupt aristocratic government. Adams presidency is constantly attacked by Jackson’s supporters and he fails to be re-elected president and loses to Jackson. Jackson’s supporters split from the rest of the democratic-republican party and form a new party (Jacksonian democratic party)

Many would blame the Panic of 1819 on this second bank. Westerners and Southerners felt that the leading policies was more in the Northerners favor when it came to their interests. His veto of the bank made him different from the previous presidents, being that they really only used the veto sparingly, which was only when they felt a law was unconstitutional, but Jackson didn’t need to say it was unconstitutional, he just challenged it head on, feeling this bank was threatening the the U.S. Union.

This was due to Andrew Jacksons withdrawal of funds from the Bank of the United States. This panic would result in the following:
- Andrew Jackson had already issued the Specie Circular, an Act that stated the government would only accept gold or silver in payment for federal land. In result, foreign investors didn't want to accept the United States Currency as payment.
- United States citizens, in a panic, would deplete the necessary funds to pay off their debts, but with everyone doing this at once, banks would loan out too much money and would be left having to close their doors due to becoming bankrupt.
- Inflation would increase throughout the economy as people just began printing their own illegal currency in hopes of that people would accept the falsified currency.
- Economic growth would be stifled.
- Many businesses would become bankrupt, not just the banks, leaving approximately 10% of workers unemployed during this time.
