Why do you think Calicut was a significant location?

It was a significant location because it was very easy to trade with the Arabian Peninsula, East Africa, and China. They could have traded by sea or by land. They may have traded spices, which were produced by the Indians. They could have gotten fruit, silk, or medicine. Also, people could escape invaders by sea. Three major religions were probably in Calicut; Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. This makes it a crossroads for religions to develop.

Why do you think Calicut was a significant location?

Calicut is located on a peninsula, so it is surrounded by water. This would mean that Calicut is a popular place for trade, especially with the Arabian peninsula, Africa, and east Asia. Besides trade by sea, people could easily come by the Silk Road. People from China might have brought porcelain, paper, silk, and salt, as the secret of silk was basically only known by China. People from the Arabian peninsula could have brought dates. Besides trade, religion could easily spread. As people traded, people have different religions, so the goods they bring reflect their own religion. Buddhism and Islam could be spread through all the different people at Calicut.

Why do you think Calicut was a significant location?
I think that calicut was a significant location because it is located near the sea, so that city could have been used for trade over the ocean. India had lots of pearls and coral as trade objects, so these objects could have come from the ocean. Calicut was an ocean location so coral and pearls were one of the items they traded. I also believe that Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam could have spread over the seas towards other countries and continents.

Why do you think Calicut was a significant location?

The first reason is religion. Calicut is at the crossroads of three of India's largest religions, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Christianity. Islam spread over trade and nations that held power over the area, such as the nation 'Mysore'. The Hindus are native to this region, and came from North India many centuries earlier. The most surprising, Christianity, was spread by one of the Apostles, Thomas I believe, until he was killed by Hindus. Christian religion has lived here ever sine.

The second is trade. Calicut and the state of Kerala was a hub of trading routes from Arabia and Europe. The Muslims from the Arabian Peninsula bought the spice trade from th Tamils from the south. Later, Vasco de Game and the Portuguese and the Dutch came around the Cape of Africa. This further led to the spread of Christianity, and as the basis of the Portuguese Indian Colonies.

Why do you think Calicut was a significant location?

The most obvious answer is hat Calicut is right on the southwestern coast of India. It has access to the entire Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea to the west. With a little sailing, it is possible to reach Indonesia and other East Asian countries. This means that a merchant ship sailing from Calicut would have access to Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, and East Asia. Water can provide opportunities for the people of the Gupta Empire to trade goods—such as silk, spices, and and precious metals and works of art with different cultures and religions, such as Islam. Through trade, they can also spread religions originating in India, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism.
