Usrah Week 1: Preparing Solat with Khusyu'

1. Solat is the First Act Judged on the Day of Judgment

The Prophet (SAW) said the first thing judged on Yaumul Qiyamah is solat.

If solat is good, other deeds follow; if bad, other deeds are wasted.

2. Purification (Taharah) is Essential

Body: Must be clean from impurities (najis). Example: A man in a grave was punished for not cleaning himself after urinating.

Clothing: If stained (e.g., menstrual blood), it must be properly washed before praying.

Prayer Place: Must be clean. The Prophet (SAW) ordered water to be poured over an unclean area.

3. What is Khusyu'?

Khusyu' means humility and focus in solat.

It includes calmness, sincerity, and avoiding distractions.

Quran says: “Successful are those who pray with khusyu'.” (Al-Mu’minun: 1-2)

Scholars say khusyu' is about both the heart and physical actions (e.g., being still and not looking around).

4. Why is Khusyu' Important?

Makes solat meaningful and spiritually fulfilling.

Strengthens connection with Allah.

Brings peace and discipline in life.

5. How to Achieve Khusyu'

1. Prepare mentally & physically – Focus your intention, perform wudu' properly.

2. Understand the recitations – Don’t just say words, but reflect on their meanings.

3. Pray in a quiet and clean place – Avoid distractions.

4. Keep away from gadgets and unnecessary thoughts.

5. Imagine standing before Allah – It helps to stay focused.

6. Avoid Things That Distract Khusyu'

Pray early – Delaying makes it rushed.

Don’t pray when hungry – Eat first if food is served.

Relieve yourself before praying – Don’t hold in urine or bowel movements.

7. Benefits of Khusyu'

Increases mindfulness and patience.

Strengthens faith and connection with Allah.

Reduces stress and brings inner peace.

Leads to higher rewards in the Hereafter.

8. Obstacles to Khusyu'

Distractions & worldly attachments – If the heart is busy with dunya, it’s hard to focus in solat.

9. Story of True Khusyu'

A scholar once prayed while a snake crawled into his clothes, but he didn’t react!

When asked why, he said: "I feel ashamed to fear anything other than Allah."

10. Key Takeaways

Khusyu' makes solat better and life more meaningful.

It requires constant effort, but Allah rewards even small steps.

The Virtues of Zakāh: Ukhuwwah

-Promotes love, empathy, and unity among Muslims.

-Purifies society from envy and hatred.

-Hadith (al-Bukhari) highlights the importance of helping fellow Muslims.

7. Zakāh: Bridging Relationships

-Vertical relationship: Strengthens connection with Allah.

-Horizontal relationship: Strengthens bonds among humans.

-Integrates both spiritual and social dimensions.

8. Conclusion

-Zakāh is more than a financial duty; it is an act of worship.

-It nurtures reliance on Allah (Tawakkul) and strengthens brotherhood (Ukhuwwah).

-Essential for a harmonious and righteous Muslim c

ommunity.
