I am an English teacher.I wanted my students to make paper planes as a greeting acivity first.They make their paper planes and ı throw it through the students in class and the one who catches the plane have to answer my question first,then a student throw paper plane to the other one,it goes like that after all studenst knows more with each other,I want them to make their group then they will explain how they do their paper plane using ''first,then,next,and then ,finally'',they learn using consequences while explaining how to make paper planes and we can go out to the school garden,make a competition, about throwng paper plane to the farthest point,they can calculate the speed of paper plane I can add more activities :))

Experiment which contains a show of oxygen production of a leaf and its demonstration was really intersting and intriguing for all my students. A lot of explanations were made by my students. But an important point while proceesing the experiment was all the students needed to see the effects of light on the leaves. So it is recommended that when you use light source, use it in front of the students and let them see light and leaf interaction for a while

I am English teacher and I can use this acitivy somehow different than the original one. First I need to learn how to make a paper plane. Then I use this information to teach my students to learn related vocabulary such as fold,cut ,colour, fly, plane. I gave my students some seeds{ wheat, corn and oat seeds} and I asked them to plant in little pots. Some pots were put in a dark place, some of them in a sunny place and the students were told to add water every day in those pots. During the two weeks of this experiment , the children were very curious about how plants will grow in diferent conditions. The students'engagement was encouraging for me !

Due to the pandemic, we were able to do online activities with students. We did the "Paper Planes" activity in Module 2. I gave time to two of my second grade primary school students to make paper airplanes. Then I told them to write down the algorithms of the planes they built on a piece of paper. They sent the algorithm they wrote to other friends via whatsapp. The two friends made a plane using each other's algorithm. Then they sent pictures of the planes to each other. They examined the algorithm for a missing or faulty situation. They were partially successful. They congratulated each other.
There are planes and algorithms made in the images below.

Within the scope of distance education activities, I apply STEM activities to the students who respond to the announcement from my school and public social media account.

In this process, where I also work on the Scientix Airbus AERO project, I enable students to design a space shuttle by using the Tinkarcad application. In this process, they benefit from mathematics and materials science.

You can present any course with a STEM approach. You should pay attention and the most common mistakes novice teachers make are rules and sequences. You should bend the rules and order of the training plan. You cannot limit the technology or mathematics or chemistry needed in 21st century education somewhere in one job. We should guide students for these topics at every stage.

I teach Primary School children by means of a foreign language (English). We did a similar activity to “The science behind cycling”. I think it is a very meaningful and real-world topic for them. Very motivating.

They asked about forces and raised questions such as “Where do my muscles get the energy to push the pedals?” They wondered why you do not fall down when you achieve a given speed. They realized about Inertia and wrote about Safety: “Make sure your tyres have the right pressure” “Check that your brakes work properly” .

They struggled with the Dynamo concept and claimed that their bikes’ lights use batteries. Probably a challenging issue in a foreign language, especially if they think it does not apply to modern bikes. My fault: I must reconsider this and find a way to teach it.

I am a kindergarten teacher. My students and I wanted to sing Christmas carols in their homes. We used the google map to find the students' houses. On a local map we placed the houses in the right place and measured their distance from the school. We found which is near and which is far. We worked on a STEM project with my students to prevent gas poisoning. In this coding-based STEM project, they first received coding training and then learned academic information about gas poisoning. Later, we developed a system that will automatically detect gas leaks. Thus, the system worked automatically against a possible gas leak without external intervention. We did group work with the students and it was very productive.

The importance of water for our planet is increasing day by day and will increase. We did research on a very good project to explain water savings with LEDs. For example; If 10 LEDs turn on when we wash the dishes with our hands, 2 LEDs turn on when we wash them in the dishwasher. (Each led to show 2 liters. Numbers are for example)

In order to learn the laws of physics, we did a STEM activity to design cars that can travel the longest distance from waste materials. We determined the movement and speed of this car by physics. We used technology and engineering for the features that make it design and operate. Of course, we used mathematics in all these planning and calculations.

An experiment called flying egg which we did at school. From about 7-8 meters high the aim is to make sure that the raw egg lands on the target without breaking. When the face-to-face training process begins, I will have the opportunity to try these activities. I would like to give an example from my previous work. We looked for solutions to delay the rotting of fruits. We applied different methods to prevent rotting of both fruits by using apples and strawberries. We know that aloe vera has various benefits. We tested whether it has an effect on rotting. We have seen that strawberries can be stored for longer periods without rotting when washed with aloa vera juice. We kept the apples in different containers (plastic, cardboard and glass). We conclude that it can stay in the plastic container longer without rotting.

I apply STEM very comfortably in my classroom. When we bring the real problem situation to the classroom, I think it will be applied very easily as soon as it is concretized. Of course, material preparation by the teacher is required beforehand. I would especially like to state that the pre-school education curriculum easily fits the STEM integration. We tried the shopping list activity but we changed the scenario so to be more related to the age of students and their subject. Students were encouraged to create a list of a three days menu for their family. Then they had to get the prices of the items in list referring to: a) local/national products and b)global products in the nearby supermarket. After that they made a comparison of the budget who someone spends consuming local/national products instead of someone else who consumes global products. We also included here a comparison on ingredients, and nutrients based to their labels and tried to identify the footprint of each product.
At the end students have to create a poster presenting the pros/cons of consuming local/global products for their health, community, economy and the environment.

We held the IT Controlled Car activity with students. The preparation phase was really difficult. We have used almost all of our knowledge of physics. Our activity we developed with stem was really successful. Students discovered the working logic of the remote control car. They learned Bluetooth data transfer and the logic of receiving data. I used to perform an activity very similar to the 'Paper plane Algorithm' with my 16 years students. I used to ask them to prepare a detailed list of steps to go from one place to another and then follow someone else instructions and see where they come up. They had fun moving around and finding themselves in different places. Due to Covid emergency we can not move around in the school and we can not touch someone else papers. So I need to change this activity and I am sure they will have fun in building a paper plane even if working alone and trying it one by one. Step by step instructions (the algorithm) can be shared digitally via email or cloud. Thanks for the idea, I can evolve my previous activity!

My students had a scientific project in Science which they need to classify animals into vertebrates and invertebrates and make a model for their results . They looked for the most appropriate way to display their data , They learned at the same time about the types of graphs in Math and how to interpret data in graphs and tables. As part of our preschool STEM eTwinning project, my students and I integrated dinosaurs into the curriculum and built a dinosaur house out of Legos in engineering under the 5e plan . They studied the dinosaurs they loved so much, measured how tall they would be if they lived now, and counted how many lego sizes they were worth in math. As a mathematics teacher, my horizons widened with this course and when I thought about it, I saw that there are many projects that I can do in different fields. E.g ; we observe earthquake intensity and destructiveness. We show that the intensity of the earthquake changes with the exponential function. At the same time, we examine the earthquake-resistant buildings and learn how geology and physics are involved. We enable students to design buildings. We can test its durability with earthquake intensity simulation. So we can grasp how seriously this work should be taken. Thus, we will introduce the professions that do this job.

I tried the Photosynthesis activity. I think that my students (17 y. o.) understood the concepts involved after discussing the results. Then, I told them that a researcher decided to do the experiment with two different plants and ask them what she thought was the purpose. Later, we tried with another plant and we noticed that it took it longer to float. The biggest problem was that they poured too much bicarbonate and it did not dissolve … as you can see.

My students were included into a project Biodegradable plastic which can decompose and become part of the soil. Potato (and corn) starch was the main source for it. Starch is a polymer made of long chains of glucose units joined together.

We organized an event on programming fundamentals and algorithm with my middle school students. A student is giving command. Another student is robot. 1 student sets the task. The command is trying to fulfill the task by giving movements to the robot. Other students in the class are trying to find errors in the commands. In this way, they learn what is the coding result and where is the party that made the mistake, the program, the robot or the code part.

Recycling of waste oil
We developed a project with our middle school 7th grade students to recycle the waste frying oils they collect at home and to prevent environmental pollution. First of all, I wanted students to learn about the properties of honey bees before the lesson. Students did the necessary research before the lesson and attended our online lesson.

1-At the beginning of the lesson, children watched a video titled "If there are bees, there are tomorrows" about the lives of bees. Later, the students were talked about the video and the students shared the information they learned. By drawing attention to the importance of bees in their life cycle, awareness was created on this issue.

2- Parents cooked biscuits for children previously and some parents were invited to the online lesson. The students had tea, water biscuits and honey for a snack break. They tried to dissolve the honey in water.

3- The children were asked to eat a teaspoon of honey from the honey jar next to them and the 5 taste sensations of the tongue were discussed. The children explained where honey is made and wrote it on the online board.

4- The children were asked to talk about the formation of honey they learned before. Students said that honey is the sweetest food in the world and that people used to consume it as medicine. The students were informed about the benefits of honey.

5- Students talked about the hexagonal structure of honey and gave examples of some hexagonal structures.

6- Students were introduced to web 2 tools such as postermywall and canva, and students were asked to create posters about honey and bees.

7- Students created their own posters after the lesson.

Classes at my Institute (IPC/ISEC) will only start october 6th, thus I am not able to do the experiment suggested. Nevertheless I would choose Nautical Chart. I can imagine students engaging very quickly with this activity and question 3 as being the one that generates more discuss and argumentation. I would also introduce polar coordinates to write points coordinates and relate cartesian and polar coordinates since for my students this activity would fucntion as a revision of concepts already known and a bridge to new ones. Since they are electrotechinal engineering students I will also extend the aplications to robots walks and try to program those walks. Of course that activity time duration will be more done 1 hour :)

I challenged the students to create a wheel that brings in some art elements to reflect the changes in nature as we move from one season to the next. We do many activities in the classroom. I try to focus on the subjects which the studennts struggle most. Some of my STEM works are such as the following:
*The students created planet modelings in order to grasp their distances and sizes relatively. You can see its picture below:
*We had many plants in the classroom, and it would take some time to water them. So, we merged some straws and tied their ends to each plant. Therefore, we could water them easily from one inlet.
*We would watch some films in the classroom in our spare times and the students would want popcorns. So, we cut one coke cans and put a candle in it. Then, we put another on top of it reversely after filling it with corns. The heat of the candle would pop all the corns. The students learnt the heat transfer and its effects on other materials.

Last school year, with a class of ninth grade, fourteen years old, I performed a STEM activity, "the 100 meter race". First of all, the students saw a video about the 100 m race, the Olympic games. Then, they were asked to write the procedure, define the necessary material. When these two phases were completed, they went to the school's playground, putting into practice the procedure they developed.
It was a very rich activity, as the first procedure they developed was not feasible. When faced with practice, at recess, they found, on the one hand, that they had to perfect the experimental procedure. On the other hand, they had to define the best way to measure the times, that is, the time that the colleague took to complete the 100 m.
Also faced with the problem, does the runner stop, decelerate close to the goal or keep the speed?
The accomplishment of this activity, in groups of three students, was a challenge, because as it was carried out, questions were emerging that needed to be resolved.
If you perform the activity again, an app that records the race will be used, to later obtain the graph, to be analyzed with the help of the math teacher.

My children are very young, so I have to adapt most of the activities to their level of understanding. But having them perform different task and learning from them proves to be really efficient. This was the case with talking about speed and having them try their bicycles.

I am a preschool teacher. I tried the honey biscuit activity in my class before. First of all, we tasted honey and then we discussed what kind of taste it will leave in the food it will enter. A volunteer mother came to the class and applied the honey biscuit with the technique of showing children and making them. They tasted the baked biscuit and said if they could taste honey. They found that some foods change color, smell and taste when they are processed. We discussed where the honey came from and watched a video about the bees, then examined the shapes of the honeycombs they made and created combs from leftover materials. We made and exhibited bees with yellow boxes that come out of surprise eggs. Well, we discussed what shape and why honeycombs are hexagonal. We found hexagonal objects. We have seen that hexagonal shapes come together and repeat endlessly. We learned from the videos we watched that it is the most robust, easiest to build and has the greatest capacity, taking up the least space. I talked about the golden ratio and examined the objects containing the golden ratio. I wanted them to build a structure using honeycomb shapes. They built buildings such as a school building, playground, pool, car repair shop. Later, we exhibited them at the school and let families see.
It was a great event.

I was doing extra workshops of physics experiments for students at pedagogical highschool and after we talked about what the physics deals with (it investigate nature but only the not live part of it – e.g. it does not investigate how a tree grows but how is it possible that water gats to its top and to the leaves, it does not investigate how a chicken hatches but how the shell is difficult to break from outside and much easier from inside and so on…) I gave them question: “What do you think we have thanks to physics” and let them work on the answers in small groups for three to six minutes (I worked with three classes of twenty-five to thirty students, each class needed a little different time).

When it seemed they had difficulties (e.g. answers like “gravity” or “friction”) I talked about that this thinks were here without physics that physics only investigates them but did not “invent” them. When they got too philosophical or abstract (e.g. “Physics is everywhere”) I gave a guiding questions: “What is making your life easier or more comfortable thanks to physics” and “Imagine your day from the very morning and try identify all you encounter that we have according to physics.”

One person than wrote the answers on the board. Even eighteen years old students were surprised what all we have thanks to basics research.

We grouped the thinks written on the board into groups according the fields of physics – we got groups like mechanics and simple machines for elevator and can opener, hydromechanics for tap water and toilet, electromagnetism for electric cattle and mobile phones, etc.

Students will learn, with materials they have at home to make yeast. Then they will knead and bake their first bread. The teacher starts the process for the yeast. The process goes through 4 stages, which are completed in 7 days. Each time the students are taught the next phase in parallel, they repeat the process at home, so that each child prepares his own yeast. Once the yeast is done, the teacher kneads the bread and bakes it in the school oven. The same goes for the students (with the help of their parents) kneading their dough at home and baking it. The next day, they consume bread with traditional Greek products (olives and feta cheese) as a snack at school. Each child brings his own bread. The activity due to the pandemic is completed in individual work. Students learn about the living organisms that develop as the yeast matures and observe changes in smell, color, texture, and volume. Students also learn about the nutritional value of making bread in the traditional way.

We do many activities with students. I try to focus on what students are most curious about. If I give a few example from my STEM studies:

Students learned about fermentation. We made both yoghurt and bread. I took the processes from the very beginning. We grinded the wheat in a stone mill and made flour. Then we made bread dough with yeast. They studied every process. We milked the cow and drank milk, then fermented it and made yogurt. In this event, they observed every process.
There were many pinecones in the garden. They thought of what to do with the pinecones. One student offered to germinate them and all students agreed. There is this work in the photo.
Some pinecones have sprouted. During this process, they recorded each stage in their observation book.

Hello, with my students (14 years old) we were thinking about climate changes in our town and trying to find some solution of this problem. The students played the role of the mayor and local authority. They had to invest money to some useful projects to protect our town from natural calamities. It was really an interesting lesson because the kids could make their own decisions and they could see the consequences of these decisions very quickly.

Like other teachers, I also can not implement any STEM activities because of pandemic. However last year, I made my students applied a STEM activity. I that activity I wanted them to dropped the eggs form the top floor of the school building without broking. They used their physics knowledge like air friction, force. And also they focused on what kind of materials they should have used to place the eggs. At the final part of the activity, each group of students tested their works and it was so funny and exciting for them. :)

With the 7 year-old children we verified how a new plant could be born from the leaves of some succulents (reproduction by cutting). The children sequentially cut the leaves from a mother plant, planted them in the soil and watered them. After a few days they found that the leaves had driven out the roots and were developing new seedlings. The seedlings were sold at the school's solidarity market.

This year I have not a classroom, but I can share with you a different real-world STEM activity i used to have with my students in the past.
I asked them to bring two empty plastic cups ( for example from their yogurt) and we plant lentils on them. We made some holes in the bottom of the cups and put some lentils and cotton on them. We moistened the cotton with a water spray. Then we put the first cup in a sunny place and the other in a dark place. Everyday they observed their planted lentils, took photos of them and in that way we could discuss about the importance of sun in plants.

I was not able to do the activities proposed in section 2.2, because they were not integrated with the subjects I´m working with my students.
But this week I proposed a debate about the contingency plan implemented by the school.
Students were asked to play different roles: headmasters, teachers, students, school staff,
doctors and psychologists. Each of these groups was asked to take stock of how the contingency plan is being implemented in our school, focusing on their health and quality of life, according to WHO definitions.
The students adhered in a very positive way to this activity, embodying the roles assigned to them and pointing out positive aspects, constraints and suggestions for improvement, according to them.
The involvement was such that the students asked that their conclusions and ideas be transmitted to the school management, so that they could evaluate them.
I think this is a good example of how STEM, namely Science, can impact our lives.

I tried both activities form chemistry. They both are great. Activity with oil was a little bit to easy for my students, as I have older ones; but they all agreed that they would like to have a lessons like this in previous years.
The second activity they just loved. All of them were taking part, nobody was bored, teamwork was excellent. They were engage in the lesson on such high level, I would like them to be on every lesson.

I am on work permission at the moment so I am not working this school year. Last year I put in practice some STEAM with my pupils. Within a 6 month project we got to know Leonardo da Vinci's. my pupils tried to biuld bridges with different materials, then they checked, analyzed their resistency and summarized all their datas .

In this case, we worked the ciurcuit on cards to understand the electronics through aluminum, batteries and led lights. This was the first time, difficult beginning but success results. In Madeira Island – Portugal, we started the school year in 14th of setember… I didn´t have time use one of the activities from section 2.2, because we had already designed the projects that we are going to do.
So I will present/share a STEM/STEAM project that we worked last year called «CESTO DE VIME/CESTO DE PAPEL» (basketry)
1. We starded with a FIELD TRIP TO MADEIRA ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM where they visited de exhibition: The Art of Wickerwork: ‘Wrapping carboys with straw’. The aim of this exhibition is to disclose an ancestral tradition, underlying to a know-how that is part of our immaterial cultural heritage and represents the cultural heritage of past generations. The exhibi-tion is about a technique applied to wicker, similar to basketry, in matter of raw materials, techniques and tools used by craftsmen. The museum demonstrates to its guests the differ-ent stages of the making of these utilitarian items, with works by Fernando Humberto de Castro an artisans that continues working the wicker. The students had contact with the: The raw material: the wicker; The wicker processing; a WORKSHOP with de artisan Fernando Humberto Castro.
2. A FIELD TRIP to MADEIRA PRESS MUSEUM to visit the collection in the museum that includes machines from the 19th and 20th centuries, among which is a machine for manual printing, manufactured by Golding & Cº, Boston, in 1886, an Intertype, made in England in 1911, by Harris-Intertype, Ltd. and a rotary printing press machine, unique in the history of the press in Madeira. The students had contact with the: evolution of the printing machines.
3. Study object: NEWSPAPER (shape, function, how it works, historical evolution, material, price, cicle of life, technological evolution to make it).
4. Hands on: create/build a BASKET REUSING NEWSPAPER using the knowledge that they received in the workshop.

As a STEM activity, we conducted a study with our students to address environmental problems and send waste products to recycling in order to take part in the solution of environmental pollution. We designed the material we used in this study from a waste product. For this, we transformed a large refrigerator box into a large waste collection box where waste will be collected. Of course, while doing this, we made the collection of waste attractive by placing a basketball hoop on the box and made it a fun and awareness-raising activity for students to collect the waste and throw baskets here. With this, the students were having fun by collecting the wastes in the environment as they threw their own wastes here. These wastes did not pollute the environment anymore and were collected at a place to be sent for recycling. The starting point of this stem study was the search for a solution to the real world problem. My students both had fun and created awareness. Of course, many of these wastes have also been converted into useful products for reuse.

I tried to adapt the activity of Rafael Montero, Shopping List Activity here, adapting to the technology discipline and the spreadsheet module. It worked, because everyone showed different values and had the possibility to interact with daily activities.

The little ones who learn to create ways to cope with problems also develop different perspectives by acquiring basic skills for their future with these activities.I can observe the development of children with the activities I practice in my classroom.Draw a round in the shape of a ballerina skirt on paper. Glue it on the skirt by drawing a dimensional body on the round. Make it stand on any ground by passing it into the play dough with a straw about 15 cm long, but make sure that the skirt is not fully fixed to the straw. Light the candles so that they match under the skirt part.

As the candles burn, the heated air will rise and start to rotate the round skirt on it. With this activity, children easily learn about the formation of rain with the evaporation- condensation cycle. Children who benefit from mathematics - geometry by drawing shapes have the opportunity to observe the results of heating the air on the one hand.
