But before you start treating it, you need to tell an adult and then wash your hands! You don't want to treat an open wound with dirty hands. After washing you hands, do the following:
  • Stop the bleeding. If the scrape is still bleeding, apply pressure to the area. It will probably be a good idea to use a cotton pad or clean washcloth so it will be less messy.
  • After you stop the bleeding, you need to clean the wound. Gently wash the wound with water the best you can.
  • Apply an antibiotic. Something like rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide will help prevent infection by killing germs.
  • Once you finish cleaning the wound and applying an antibiotic, its time to cover the wound. Find a band-aid that is big enough to cover the scrape and stick it on! Maybe even choose a cool cartoon band-aid!
  • Change the band-aid and check the wound when you do. If the redness around the wound is getting worse, it has a greenish or yellowish colored pus, has cloudy drainage, and is swelling, it may be infected! If the wound is infected go to the doctor so they can help you treat it!
