In eczema, the skin barrier is defective, leading to increased transepidermal water loss. This makes the skin more susceptible to environmental allergens, irritants, and microbes, resulting in inflammation. Genetic factors (such as filaggrin gene mutations) and immune system dysregulation contribute to the development of eczema. The immune system is overly reactive, causing chronic inflammation, itching, and skin breakdown.

There are different ways Eczema can be treated depended on the severity of the inflammatory disorder.

Bandages (wet wrapping) can be used to create moisture to the inflamed area to reduce irritation to the skin. The first layer of the bandage is applied wet and the second dry this can also help to cool the skin.

paste bandages can also be used which includes a steroid (emollient) to help calm the inflamed area which will need to be prescribed.

A topical steroid can be used as well this is a mild steroid that is like a cream/ ointment that can be applied to the skin regularly to help reduce inflammation and speed up healing time.

As eczema can be caused due to certain allergies antihistamines can work as a blocker to the receptors in the skin, reducing the level of damage

Severe eczema can have a significant impact on various aspects of a child’s development:

• Physical development: Persistent itching can disturb sleep, leading to fatigue and poor growth. In severe cases, malnutrition can occur due to increased metabolic demands.

• Social and emotional development: Visible skin rashes can lead to self-consciousness, especially as children grow older, potentially affecting self-esteem and social interactions. Itching and discomfort may lead to irritability or behavioral changes.

• Cognitive development: Chronic sleep disturbances caused by nighttime itching can impact attention span, learning, and memory, especially in school-aged children.

Antihistmaines is used to block the production of histamines. Which increases the dilation of blood vessels it is a chemical released during allergic reactions that contributes to itching, redness, and swelling.

They work by blocking its production which therefore reduces itching caused by inflammation, redness due an increase of blood flow to the area and swelling which is caused by histamine release during allergic responses which leads to increased blood vessel permeability, causing fluid to leak into surrounding tissues.

Individuals with eczema can benefit from a kosher diet since they may have dietary irritants, such as dairy, gluten, eggs, or soy. Eczema is occasionally brought on by or made worse by food allergies or sensitivities. Kosher marketplaces frequently provide alternatives like dairy-free items and parve meals. People maintaining both kosher and eczema-friendly diets may discover that many kosher-certified foods can fit their dietary needs because kosher standards already involve careful analysis of ingredients.

Those who follow a kosher diet and suffer with eczema will need to consider the kosher status of their medications, especially oral treatments. However topical creams and ointments can be used as they generally not subject to kosher dietary laws since they are not consumed

In the Jewish community they have a prayer for called Healing called (Mi Sheberach) this is a traditional prayer for healing that is recited in synagogues and can be requested for individuals dealing with chronic conditions like eczema.
