My magazine uses forms and conventions of real magazines by staying relatively close t other magazines of its kind.
I have stuck with a similar colour scheme to other rock magazines that i was inspired by, however i did opt for a slightly more muted colour scale compared to what i found in a lot of rock magazines i looked at. a lot of rock based magazines stick to deep, intense reds and golds, quite rich colours. because I've inspiration to look at more alternative rock/music as well. I've used small bits of red here and there to add little pops of colour to my otherwise mostly black and white colour scheme. I've used red for the numbers on my contents page for a slight break in the black and white column full of text and the very muted colour image alongside it. i have also used small red lines to separate small sections of text on my double page spread.

The photos I've used in my magazine are in colour but they're quite muted, they aren't completely black at white but they aren't colourful like they would be if they were in a pop magazine. I've tried to give them a slightly faded effect as i was inspired to do this by alternative music bands since this is often what a lot of album covers and posters look like within this genre, which i have looked into for my magazine.

I've also gone for bolder text than you would find in say a pop magazine. It's slightly more in your face than regular text would be. i think this bolder text suits my magazine because its all very dark and bold everywhere else, so if it was regular text i don't think it would be as easy to read, it wouldn't draw your attention as much. i decided to use bolder text after creating my double page spread. at the top of the left page I've used very large, bold text for a name. and the writing underneath was drowned out by this so I made it a bolder text and it worked much better
