- Though Incheon International Airport is about 50 kilometres from Seoul, getting to and from the airport is easy. Hop on the AREX Express train (40 minutes, RM30/KRW8,000) for an affordable ride to Seoul Station, where you can transfer to the subway.

- Alternatively, if you have heavy luggage with you, board one of the many airport limousine buses available outside the passenger terminal. These buses will take you straight to downtown Seoul within an hour, for a fare of about RM56 (KRW15,000).

Korean Etiquette: Do and Don’t in Korea

Korea has its own customs, traditions, and rules for manners, just like your own country does. Some of these customs are completely fine in your country, but are considered offensive in Korea. These fascinating differences are necessary to learn before your visit to Korea.

Do’s

#1 Laugh with Koreans whenever possible as they enjoy sharing humour.

#2 Be aware of how you fit in the social hierarchy that Koreans observe. Discern who is superior to you based on age, position and family name, and show respect to each person as necessary. If you do not adhere to these expectations and fail to give a Korean the respect they are due, you may lose face in their eyes. You may even find that they wish to avoid you after.

#3 Expect a Korean to be modest and subtly deny any compliments you give them.

#4 Be sensitive to the hardship South Koreans have endured and sympathise about the situation in North Korea.

Do not’s

#1 Avoid drawing parallels between the Korean culture or language to Japan. Korea should be acknowledged for its distinctiveness and difference from other East Asian cultures.

#2 Avoid exhibiting anger or distress in heated displays or outbursts of emotion. Doing so may cause you to lose face.
