The Sabiá Park, the modern Sabiá Park Municipal Stadium and the Tancredo Neves Arena (Sabiazinho Poliesportivo) form the Complexo Virgílio Galassi Complex, one of the most complete leisure and sports facilities in Minas Gerais. The complex began to be built on July 7, 1977 and was inaugurated on November 7, 1982.

The Sabiá Park has an area of 1,850,000m², which covers a 350,000 m² woodland area, a hydrographic complex composed of three springs that supply seven dams and originate a large lake and seven smaller ones; A zoo with captive animals of dozens of species; A pisciculture station with several tanks, that serve for stocking of matrices, reproduction of fish, storage of post-larvae and raising; A pavilion of 1,080 m² of built area, which includes 36 aquariums and 36 different species of fish, with economic value and ornamental; A 5,100-meter wooded hiking trail; A pool of running water; Seven football fields with varying measures; Five multisports courts; A block of sand; A grass society field; A complete playground with more than 100 toys; Sanitary assemblies; Sports locker rooms; Snack bars and several contemplative places, among other facilities. The main purpose of the proposal was to provide the population with a place to practice sports and other leisure activities.

In the decade of 70 still under the military dictatorship the mayor Virgílio Galassi pertaining to Arena, dictated the development of the municipality of Uberlândia. With the emergence of the Federal University of Uberlândia in the Santa Monica neighborhood, the then owner of the lands Segismundo Pereira made a donation of their properties to the city.

Years later, under the end of the mandate of Renato de Freitas also belonging to ARENA and the beginning of the new mandate of Virgílio Galassi, a project was started that contemplated a forest reserve, a zoo, a stadium, a playground in the east zone of the city, the Complex of the Sabiá Park. With the sale of the land donated by Segismundo Pereira, the construction of the Park was started on 07/07/1977.

In 1982, on 27/05/1982 one of the first equipment of the park was inaugurated in the complex, the Sabiá Park Stadium was the scene of a thrashing of the Brazilian national team on the selection of Ireland by the score of 7 to 0, aiming at the preparation of the FIFA World Cup 1982, a paying audience of 72,733 marked the largest audience of the stadium to this day.

Months later, on November 7, 1982, the entire complex was inaugurated; Which today has a superior structure, but which maintains the developmental spirit linked to the environment and leisure.
