As an Italian teacher, I am passionate about creating globalized citizens. I see technology as a tool to help bridge the gap between our students and the world. In the digital age, we have access to the world at our fingertips and it is our responsibility as teachers to teach our students how to use technology and as active participants in a global society. All of our students have access to platforms like Discord, Twitter, Instagram, and online gaming which connects people to each other from every corner of the globe. Because they are digital students, they are able to gain a deeper intercultural understanding that previous generations and, in turn, they are more empathetic and understanding of other cultures and other people. Technology in education is not just a tool, it strengthens community engagement by connecting students, educators, and families to each other from across the globe. The use of online platforms and apps allow parents to be more active in their student's education. Overall, integrating technology in education allows students to become digital, globalized citizens who can navigate and contribute to the now globalized world. Technology is a way to get our students to learn multiple languages and navigate the world after school. By teaching them how to communicate in other languages and across cultures, we are preparing them for a future where language, technology, and global awareness are going to be the basic requirements for job prospects.
