Eating with them at least one day per month during lunch. I feel like this makes them know that they’re valued/seen, that I care about them and want to spend time with them. However, every morning before coming into class, I always ask them how they’re feeling that day but also making them feel like they’re loved.

I make sure to relate to them in ways including interests. For instance, favorite movies, colors, activities, etc. Giving good morning hugs, high fives, etc.

Many emotions and experiences younger children have are brushed off by adults because they are seen as “simple” or “childish”, but to them what they’re feeling is big and I treat them like they are. Even if to other it’s just something minimal to them it’s everything.

I will ask them how there weekends were. Also in the morning meetings we get to ask the students about how they are feeling emotionally. I validate their feelings when I know they are feeling frustrated I try and help them or ask them what is wrong.

What I like to do is when they come up to me and talk to me I like to thank them. What I do is thank them for sharing with me because I am glad they felt comfortable coming to me in the first place. I also talk about things that have happened to me that can maybe help them as well.

I make sure that I am always there to answer their questions . I also try to Validate anything they have to say because I don’t want them to ever feel less than when answering a question. I hope that I show that I care for them by always showing up for them and interacting with them in meaningful ways.

I come into the class everyday with a smile on my face and I answer all of their questions. I never try to diminish what they are saying, I’ll give them a few moments to tell me something and then let them know we have to get back to class work. The students know I will always listen to them without shutting them down.

I always make sure to ask them how they’re doing each day. Make sure that if anyone needs extra help, then I will pull a small group to break down the material for them to show that I care and will make time for them. I always take the time to try and hear everyone’s answer when they raise their hand.
