         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li><p>Carol Ann Duffy was born in Glasgow, Scotland, until the age of six, where she moved to Stanford, England, where her father worked as a fitter with an English Electric and for permanent residence. Her parents were May and Frank duffy, both Irish. (“Carol Ann Duffy”, [Britannica])</p></li><li><p>As a child, she went to convent schools where she ended up publishing some of her poetry in magazines at only the age of 14– her passion for writing and reading was fostered from two of her English teachers. Before her graduation, she had already published three poetry collections globally, winning the National Poetry Competition in 1983. She worked as a poetry critic for “The Guardian” in 1988, and later on lectured in poetry at Manchester Metropolitan University— 1996, she became the creative director of the school.
