         <description><![CDATA[<div>On the first day, I like to take time to take attendance and get to know how to pronounce each student's name, if they prefer a nickname, etc.  With each student, after we establish what they would like to be called, I will say "thank you, XXXX.  Welcome."  I never thought much of this until I had a student tell me how much that exchange made them feel more safe and comfortable in the room.  </div>]]></description>

I move them to the dots in alphabetical order. I ask then to remember who is next to them and what color of dot they are sitting on. Each week, they will rotate their rows. We go through the entering, exiting, classroom rules. I ask if any new students have taken dance before. We talk about why we need to warm-up and we get moving!!!<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Usually the first/second class I meet with each student individual to fit them for their shoes and give them their dance shirt.&nbsp; This year I am thinking of having students work in small groups to create a dance playlist for class (on youtube, letting them use their phones). &nbsp;<br><br>- A song that they can't help but move when they hear it<br>- A song that makes them feel relaxed<br>- A song that makes them want to exercise<br>- A song they would love to learn a choreographed dance to<br>- Favorite oldies song<br>- Random song they love<br><br><br>When the small group is done they share the playlist with me!</div>]]></description>
