This statute set the stage for assistive technology by ensuring every child with disabilities receives a free appropriate public education (FAPE), appropriate evaluation, individualized education program (IEP), least restrictive work environment (LRE), and both parent and student participation. With these expectations in place, it allows for both educators and families to consider what assistive technology will benefit their child (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act [IDEA], 2023).

The EAHCA is beneficial for children with disabilities because this statute paved the way for much of the support we see in the school system today. Every child is heard, and their needs are looked at in depth.

The Tech Act of 1988 officially defined assistive technology and services, further providing funding at the federal level for training and services. This statute allowed schools access to the resources they needed to offer this technology to children in need (“Assistive Technology Act”, n.d.).

Individuals with disabilities benefit from this progression because the Tech Act officially established what assistive technology was and further pushed for federal aid when it came to finances. Without this, training and services would suffer.

The ADA of 1990 made assistive technology available by ensuring no student was denied access to public schools due to physical ability to enter the building or school buses. By enforcing this statute, individuals with disabilities were properly considered and received treatment more closely aligned with their typical peers (Americans with Disabilities Act [ADA], n.d.).

This act was beneficial for students like Sady because it erased bias and ignorance when it can to ability. Rather, accommodations were made and promoted inclusion that we still see to this day.

This sort of perspective encouraged collaboration over isolation.
