Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22 to raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage environmental protection. It was created by US Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970 after witnessing the devastating effects of the Santa Barbara oil spill in 1969. Since then, it has been an annual event involving people from all over the world. The theme for Earth Day this year (2023) is "Restore our Earth." This is a call to action for all of us to come together and work together to restore the environment. Environmental degradation, biodiversity loss and climate change are some of the biggest challenges facing our planet.

In the mid-1970s, the creation of this day was promoted by a series of ecological and environmental movements led by the then US senator and environmental activist Gaylord Nelson, without forgetting that "every day is or should be the Day of the Earth” given the importance of our planet. Anyway, now we know that this day is officially celebrated. A curious fact regarding this date is that some rumors held that April 22 was chosen as Earth Day for the birthday of Vladimir Lenin, the founder of the Soviet Union, that by a mere coincidence both dates are celebrated on the same date. day.

April 22 is the date marked on the calendar to celebrate Earth Day. A celebration that arose in the United States, in the 70's, with the aim of inviting reflection and promoting initiatives on environmental protection and reducing pollution levels on our planet.

April 22 is one more opportunity to remember that the Earth needs everyone's collaboration to move towards the same goal, which is to care for and preserve it. A need that worries even more due to the constant increase in pollution and the consequent climate change, which is affecting not only animals and nature, but also many communities.

For all this and because it is a day to pay homage to our planet and recognize the Earth as our home, we have compiled 10 famous phrases about the environment to reflect on and also invite you to enjoy the selected images of our planet, the Land.

Earth Day is an international day dedicated to our planet. This day draws attention to the environment and promotes conservation and sustainability.

It's a message just as relevant today. The latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says that without immediate action to curb greenhouse gas emissions, the world is on track to reach temperatures 3.2ºC above pre-industrial levels. This level of warming would be catastrophic for the planet and all life on it, including humans.

Earth Day, which has become a truly global movement, is one of the pillars of the fight against climate change, raising public awareness of environmental issues and providing a forum for people to get involved. Our survival could depend on it.
