what is positive discrimination?

When people see discrimination happen they try and do the opposite. What i mean by this is that if black people arent getting the same opportunity as white people, then people give them the opportunity. For example the Rooney rule. This gives people with BAME backgrounds to have the exact same option as white people to become head coach/senior football vacancies.

Even though this is good that people are giving black people the same opportunity but they are avoiding it not stopping it! this may be seen as a good thing as it doesn't cause a massive argument throughout society and they can get on with it peacefully. However it is not solved and it is still happening and it still making athletes feel less confident and making them think about stopping doing the sports.

What would you say the arguments are for and against the Rooney rule?

Arguments For:
- It is a unique hiring process in which they are able to hire any race that they want as they would need to have one black ethnic minority be interviewed which gives everyone else a chance to be able to have a chance at being a coach for the NFL and be more involved with this.
- It helps people with required qualifications in coaching to be able to have a high chance to be involved in being a coach as any race is able to have the qualification and able to get the job which is better for them.
- Gives talented black managers a chance to be involved in coaching as they are able to have any chance to be involved in coaching and would show the skills which are needed and in doing so, they are able to show the coaching skills needed and be better for the black people who want to coach.
Arguments Against:
- This is shown to be unfair to others if they are better at the coaching role than the black person who is chosen and shows that they are not able to show how good they are at being a coach and maybe, not want to continue coaching after that trial.

what is football doing to combat the under-presentation of BAME coaches?

By 2016 the FA wants 10% of coaches to be from BAME backgrounds at each stage of the qualification process. The FA is spending £1.4m over five seasons on BAME coaching bursaries including working with England development teams, while the premier league has made additional places available to BME applicants on its elite coach. UK parliament called for English football to set an overall target of at least 20 percent of coaches to be from BME backgrounds by 2020.

Will we ever reach a point of total equality

Total equality in the world will never be equal I feel as people will always be racist or do things towards racism in which people will be hurt towards and big things taken further than this can be worse for black ethnic people. A recent sporting example of this is the banana being thrown at Dani Alves because he is in a different race and still shows that racism still happens in our society today which shows that sports that are at a high standard to others will show that people will still go at being racist towards sports stars and will still keep happening to people in the society and will show to the people of the society that people will still be discriminating towards people in any way in the world and this would mean that the point of total equality in my opinion shows that I feel that equality towards the racism in the world with different ethnicity will not be able to be the same and be totally equal with each other.
