Mother Teresa - Background innformation

Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu (Mother Teresa) was born on the 26th of August, 1910 in Albania. However, Mother Teresa says her birthday was the day after as that was the day she was baptized. When Mother Teresa was a teenager she felt a message from god and she knew that god wanted her to spread his love to others (Nobelprize.org, 2018). When mother Teresa turned 18 she became a nun and devoted her life to helping the poor, sick, orphaned and needy. Six weeks after she became a nun, mother Teresa travelled to India to help the underprivileged people in India (Nobelprize.org, 2018). Mother Teresa chose to travel to India as there was so much poverty in India at this time. Mother Teresa started to teach children in Calcutta. However, in 1946 she moved and devoted her life to helping the sick and poor Indians living in the slums. Mother Teresa then set up missionary camps where her and other volunteers devoted their life. She gave the struggling people hope and because of this she has changed many Indians lives for the better. Mother Teresa sadly passed away in 1997 but thanks to Mother Teresa, many missionaries and orphanages are still devoted to helping the sick underprivileged people in India (Anon, 2018).

How has her work encouraged other people to have a more open-minded view on situations rather than a closed mind and controlled views?

Mothers Teresa’s work has encouraged many people to have a more open mind set as she wanted to help everyone. Mother Teresa thought that everyone should live a good life and if they cannot, they must receive help. Mother Teresa showed help and tried to help the people that could not help themselves. This then encouraged many people to have an open mind set on people that are poor and living in the slums in India and anywhere else. It is shown that people created an open mind-set as people became volunteers and other people helped mother Teresa serve the underprivileged people in India.

More Teresa challenged what was going on in the world as she was attempting to challenge poverty. Mother Teresa challenged poverty by being humble, caring and showing love towards everyone she met. Mother Teresa did not hold anything against people as she showed compassion and she volunteered to help the sick and poor and create a better life for everyone.

How did Mother Teresa take personal risks for the well-being of others rather than risking lives?

Mother Teresa made many personal risks in her life just to help people. When she was 18 she left for India purely to help people that were underprivileged and needed help. Mother Teresa could have chosen a different life but she risked her own life in India to help the sick, orphaned, poor and underprivileged kids (Motherteresa.org, 2018). Mother Teresa did not know what she was going to face on her journey in India but she risked this as she knew that she was created to help people in need.

Mother Teresa was a Christian and she found that god influenced her a lot (Nobelprize.org, 2018). If Mother Teresa was not Christian and did not feel Gods word, she would not have become the truly radical person she was. Mother Teresa believed that everyone deserved to live a good life and she was created to try and help everyone. Mother Teresa had to deal with a negative worldview as she had to deal with many sick people, poor people and orphaned people. However, Mother Teresa’s religion helped her to stay humble and positive and help the struggling people in India.

The most inspiring thing I have learnt about Mother Teresa is that she helped people purely out of love and she did not help people for rewards. This is purely inspiring as it shows that she was a truly radical person and wanted the best for everybody. Or if they could not have the best she gave them the help they deserved/needed. Mother Teresa travelled to India not knowing what she was going to face and this inspires me as she lived life purely to help and she put everyone before herself.
