Students must first tackle important strategies like brainstorming, before they create a digital story. This activity also allows for the teacher to teach critical thinking/decision making skills. Higher order thinking exercises can be implemented to ensure quality student work. Teachers can use the digital story that students make as an assessment too.

It is important for learning because it allows students to truly explore topics that interest them. Students can use technology in a positive way to get creative. Classes visit the library for literary exploration and research. Students are given choice in a lot of what they research. Instead of having them create Google Slides presentations or a written essay/paper, I can use digital storytelling as a means to communicate their information. Additionally, students have made "book trailers" in the library in the past using an old computer software I had.
