The following portfolio showcases my identity and journey as a childhood educator. I chose this program because I have discovered the profound impact that thoughtful, responsive, and creative teaching can have on young learners. My educational philosophy is deeply influenced by the theories of Howard Gardner and Loris Malaguzzi, which emphasize recognizing individual strengths and creating rich, engaging learning environments.

During my college program, I have completed placements at YMCA East London, where I worked with toddlers, and at London Bridge Maitland, working with preschool. At the core of my practice is a commitment to fostering a love of learning in every child. I believe in the power of experiential learning and the importance of providing opportunities for autonomy. By embracing diverse intelligences and prioritizing hands-on, child-centered approaches, I strive to create an inclusive and supportive atmosphere where each child can thrive.

My role as an educator extends beyond delivering content; it involves listening, observing, and collaborating with children to understand their interests and needs. I view the classroom as a dynamic and interactive space where students are encouraged to explore, question, and create. By cultivating strong relationships and leveraging the environment as a “third teacher,” I aim to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong passion for learning.

I look forward to doing my job at YMCA as a supply teacher by continuously learning and embracing diversity and developing my curious mind and kind heart professionally. I believe in the principle that I should set aside my own biases when it comes to educating young minds and must be according to the four foundations of learning: Belonging, Engagement, Expression, and Well-being. I also favor play-based learning, where the environment is the third teacher and has a child-led process. As an educator, it is essential to have a consistent reflection of my views, showing respect and empathy to children, parents, and co-workers.

Through the documentation of my practices, reflections, and the achievements of my students, I hope to convey the essence of my teaching philosophy and its positive impact on young learners.
