In this case, the differences are more important to consider as the different structural toe shape and size might lead to different function to the animals. For example, the size of metatarsal I which is larger in chicken than that of allosaurus. This might contribute to the reason of stability and mass in the chicken.

The reason we make a comparison of objects, phenomena and ideas are for bringing the best out of others. 
For example, we'll be surveying rates, features, etc. before we buy anything. Of course, people are still going to purchase cheaper products than the expensive one.  Another explanation is to establish and measure the relationships between two or more variables by evaluating various groups which are subject to different treatments either by choice or circumstances.
