         <description><![CDATA[<div>Drew&nbsp;was born on July 29, 1797 in Carmel, N.Y.. After a successful career as a cattle trader. Drew bought an interest in a New York-to- Peekskill steam boat in 1834 and six years later established the people line .He also bought control of the Stonington  line on Long Island sound and operated steam ship service. Drew had contributed some of his earlier wealth to the founding of Drew Theological seminary at Madison N.J..</div>]]></description>

         <title>Andrew Carnegie </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Carnegie was born on November 25, 1835 in Dunfermline,Fife, Scotland. At 14 Carnegie became a messenger in a telegraph office when eventually he caught the eye of Thomas Scott who made Carnegie his private personal telegrapher in 1853. In 1859 Carnegie succeeded Scott as superintendent of the railroads Pittsburgh division. Carnegie started making shrewd investments and by the age of 30 he had annual income of 50,000.<br>In 1889 he owned Carnegie steel corporation the largest of its kind in the world. Carnegie built plants around the country. Carnegie owned exactly what he needed the raw materials, ships and railroads for transporting goods.In 1901 Carnegie made a dramatic change in his life he sold his bussiness for 200 million at age 65</div>]]></description>

         <title>John Jacobs Astor</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>John was born on July 17, 1763 in Waldorf, Germany.When he was 17 he went to go work for his brother in London who made musical instruments. In 1784 Jacobs left London with some flutes and about 25$ and headed to the United States.He opened his own shop in Baltimore in 1786.Jacobs grew his business into the country's leading fur company he also began exporting fur to china and importing Chinese silk and tea.Jacobs bought land in Oregon where a fort was built in 1811 named Astoria but he sold the outpost because the war of 1812.After the war he became even richer from a bond deal with the U.S. government.He sold his fur business in the 1830's.Astor spent most of his later years with his wife who died in 1834.Together they had 7 children.When Astor died in 1848 his fortune was estimated to be about 20 million.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Gould was born on May 27, 1836 in Roxbury, New York.In the 1860's he became a stockbroker on wall street and manipulated the price of stocks. In 1868 he used illegal methods to issue 100,00 shares of new stock for the struggling Erie Railroads. In the 1880's he was pushed out of the Union Pacific Railroads, but regained control in 1885.He died on December 2, 1892 in New York City.</div>]]></description>
