The task was to collect and assemble items from our outside environment, to represent what our environment looks/feels like.
I stepped outside on a cool afternoon to gather items from our well-loved and tended to garden. My Mum finds great enjoyment in tending to it, so that it is beautiful for those who spend time in it. As a mum of two young boys, we spend a lot of time outside! Taking this quiet moment, to step out of the afternoon routine chaos, I thoroughly enjoyed selecting items to assemble. 
I enjoyed learning about integrating Visual Arts with Geography this week and I hope this is something I have the opportunity to do as I am close to commencing my teaching career. I am currently completing my final placement and I was inspired by an issue we are facing at school, of a paper shortage. There has been a lot of drama over the paper supply at the school, it is reminding me of toilet paper shortages during covid. Photocopiers are empty and people are hording paper. It has really made me think just how much paper we use, and I am sure so much of it is wasted.

So I decided to create two trees out of recyclable materials, as these resources are so valuable, yet so often taken for granted.

A paper shortage has no short-term fix, and this has really got my mind turning on the importance of sustainability. This has been such an important reminder that the resources we use so flippantly are not infinite. This could be a really great teaching tool/opportunity for students to become aware of these ideas and realities at such a young age. I thoroughly enjoyed this activity, and whilst creating it I thought of how it is so adaptable to any year level and would really enhance learning in both subject areas.
Last week I shared about how the school I am on prac at at the moment is experiencing a paper shortage and how it has got me thinking about the everyday resources we use, and take for granted, are not infinite. It is so important that the children of this generation grow up informed of these critical issues as they will have their turn and showing responsibility and creating action towards a more sustainable future.

My stop-motion is quite brief, I did not have much time to add anything extra as I am pretty under the pump with my GTPA at the moment. However, I really enjoyed engaging with the tutorial recording and this activity.

The activity required us to listen to a segment from the piece of music 'The Carnival of the Animals'. I specifically chose the segment that was designed to mimic the movements of a tortoise. I selected yellow to represent the happy and light notes within the piece, and a lighter blue colour as I found whilst listening elements that made me feel a little bit of sadness or maybe nostalgia. 

The sounds I heard were light and free, I represented these with small circles. The elements of the music that touched me with sadness/or nostalgia are represented with the blue drawn out and smooth waved lines. This created a form of abstract artwork.

I thoroughly enjoyed this activity and can see how this creates a meaningful learnign experience that truly incorporates both learning areas in fullness.

To integrate the learning areas of Visual Art and Music. I chose to interpret 'Desert Storm' by Sidney Nolan.

I chose to blend three sounds together for my soundscape. A 'swelling' sound that imitated the dry and dusty wind I imagine would take place in the desert storm. A drum line that was not my first choice however, the more I listened to it the more I thought it represented a sense of panic, which one might feel when stranded in the desert. Lastly, as my microphone wasn't working, I recorded a piano track that I thought it acted like a heartbeat that you might hear when hooked up to a machine in the hospital. To me, this represented that there is still life even in the baron place represented in the artwork.

This activity was really engaging and really made an impact for me and got me thinking.

These are two learning areas I am not very confident with however, I found the learning activity to be very accessible and made integrating the two subjects much less overwhelming.
I chose to focus on the Kookaburra for this activity.
Kookaburras live in eucalyptus woodlands, flying from tree to tree. I would represent their flight with pronounced and wide movements, utilising the elements of dance, time and body.
Kookaburras are known to eat snakes, lizards, small mammals and frogs. They do this by grasping their prey in their significantly long beaks. I would choose to represent this through strong, repetitive movements utilising both action and energy.
Kookaburras live in family groups, that often discard members of the family group that look different to the rest of them. Representing this through movements could introduce interesting elements of space and energy.

I have enjoyed this task as an introduction of integrating science and dance. THe 'big idea' that these learning areas have in common is the arrival of the First Fleet.

The learning activity that I have come up with is surrounding the topic of 'arrival in a new land' using the roleplay. As a class, brainstorm what it could have been like during this time, different roles that would be involved and possible perspectives. In groups of four students are to choose one of the roles brain-stormed as a class and the rest of the group will develop their own supporting roles. Students will create a minute long scene that reflects what life would have been like during the 'arrival in a new land', from multiple perspectives.
