My Life before College

Before coming to the University of Arkansas, I lived in a small town called Jerseyville, Illinois. I grew up babysitting for multiple families, as well as my siblings. I also had the amazing opportunity to teach swim lessons to kids in my sophomore, junior, and senior years of high school. Teaching swim lessons reminded me of how much I love to teach and help kids. I remember adults would tell me I should consider teaching as my career. This picture is of me babysitting a family friend's baby!

Biology Major to Elementary Education

When I came to the University of Arkansas, I was majoring in Biology. However, in June 2024, I started working as an aide at Jean Tyson Child Development Study Center here on campus. I always came home talking about work and how much I enjoyed being around the kids all day. I am a regular aide in one of our 2-year-old classrooms and love it. My job helped me realize I want to become an elementary education teacher. I changed my major second semester of my sophomore year. This is a picture of my 2-year-old kids watching a kids' concert at the Greek Theater!

New Beginnings in the classroom

After I graduate with my Elementary Education Degree, I plan on teaching in Northwest Arkansas. My goal is to teach 1st or 2nd grade, as I feel this is such a great age, but any group would be awesome. My ultimate goal as a teacher is to make the student comfortable and ready to learn. Reflecting on when I was in elementary school, my classes were all so bright and had a theme. I want to have a cozy corner and a library in my room. My goal is for this environment to allow the children to learn and have fun while doing it. I cannot wait to become a teacher and have my first class!
