Hook: Imagine having to work for someone and not having a say in whether one wanted to do it or not; and if not done one could get severe punishments. Well that was something Frederick Douglass, a former American slave, had to live through.
Background information: Frederick Douglass is the author of The Narrative of Frederick Douglass, which was written in 1845. This narrative was a big help in ending slavery because of the good figurative language, and accurate examples of how slavery is terrible for slaves and how slavery corrupts slave holders. It was also because a slave wrote it, and usually slaves shouldn't know how to read or write, but that is what makes this narrative so special.
Thesis statement: Along with the use of descriptive writing Douglass uses his personal experience to reveal the effects of slavery on slaves and slave owners, which supports his position to end slavery.

Theme: Figurative language
Topic Sentence: Something that helped Douglass support his position to end slavery was when he used figurative language in his writing.
Quote 1: Excerpt 4 "Mr. Covey succeeded in breaking me.

Topic Sentence: All of these are examples of how Douglass supports his position to end slavery in his narrative, figurative language, examples of how slavery is terrible for slaves, and examples of how slavery corrupts slave holders. Without all of this in his narrative or even not having the narrative written at all, might have made it so we still have slavery to this day.
