"Papias, an early church father writing about 140 A.D., tells us that Mark obtained much of the material for his gospel from stories related to him by Peter, one of Jesus' disciples. This statement by Papias has been accepted as reliable by most New Testament scholars, for it very reasonably explains the contents found in the first half of Mark." The book of Mark is the oldest one amongst the four Gospels, and so is considered to be the most reliable.  

        "Because Mark offered no further comment on Jesus's prophecy regarding the destruction of the temple - an event that occurred in AD 70 - we can safely assume that Mark composed the gospel sometime before that tragic event." The way Mark would interpret Aramaic terms if he had to use them, and the way the book has a more Roman, as opposed to Jewish, emphasis and feel "suggests that Mark was in Rome, writing from Peter's recollections sometime before that apostle's death (ca. it has been suggested that Mark wrote the Gospel mostly for the gentiles due to the fact that he explains Jewish customs and that the Gospel was written in Greek. If the passages had been written for the Jews specifically it would have been written in Aramaic, which was the common language of the Jews, instead of Greek which was the common language between people whose native language was different. Also Mark interprets Aramaic phrases in his books which he would not have to do for Jewish audiences.
For us sinners to save us from sin. By the book Mark we were able to learn another account of Jesus' time on earth. To know how He died for us in order to free us from our sins and give us the gift of eternal life.

It is one of the 4 canonical gospels in the Bible. The book of Mark was written anonymously. However, most people agree to it as being written by John Mark. It was most likely written between 67-70AD, during Nero's persecution of Christians.
