While ,dressed as a beggar, Odysseus was on his way to Penelope house. When he entered her house, Odysseus was in the house looking for Penelope. The suitor (Antinous) entered the house saying”What evil wind blew in this pest”(Homer 1210) Antinous also threatens him about talking about how sweet are egyptian whips are. When Odysseus heard this he drew away with guile and tells how selfish he is.While walking away Antinous was furious and he throws a stool at Odysseus on the right shoulder. Odysseus only shook his head at Antinous and said that Antinous will meet his death before his wedding day. After that remark Eupeithes son-Antinous said to be quiet or He’ll tell people to pull him up by his heels or hands and feet till Odysseus back is peeled so he could be quiet. Then a man in the crowded said that Odysseus might be god that comes by and checks out towns too see if their manners are good after that remark Antinous only shrugged.Telemachus Odysseus son was saying how he still has the bow that his father gave him and was thinking murderous thoughts about Antinous. Penelope Odysseus wife was in the highest room in her house and was murmuring to herself that antinous would be hit by apollo bow and arrow. After that happened one of her maids to her that her future husband antinous was being rude to a beggar who was Odysseus and she wanted to greet him and question him about what happened and not even knowing that it's Odysseus.

Conflict-

As Odysseus is going back to his house he is confronted by Antinous who has a rock hardened heart. An example of Antinous being ignorant is when he says “What evil wind blew in this pest.”(Homer 1029) Antinous is unwelcoming towards a Odysseus (who is dressed as a homeless man) and calls him a pest, someone like that would not not be good for others. Antinous insulting a poor person is an example of him being heartless.

Characterization-

Antinous is shown to be a person who doesn’t care for others. An example of this is when Odysseus insults Antinous and Antinous throws a chair at Odysseus, “The stool he let fly hit the man’s shoulder on the packed muscle under the shoulder blade like solid rock.”(Homer 1030) Antinous shows he has anger problems just because of a small insult.

Diction-

Odysseus tells about Antinous’s acts and tells how bad a person can be. An example of this when Odysseus describes “Antinous hit me for being driven by hunger-how many bitter seas men cross for hunger.” (Homer 1030) Odysseus describes how hard traveling through seas were and how he was greeted to an unwelcome visit.

Figurative Language & Imagery-

Antinous had enough and choose to take matters into his own hands and try to diffuse the situation himself. An example of Antinous diffusing the situation is “ Enough eat and be quiet where you are or shamble elsewhere unless you want these lads to stop your mouth pulling you by heels, or hand and feet all over the whole floor, till your back is peeled.”(Homer 1030) Instead of trying to diffuse the situation he just threatens Odysseus. In conclusion showing how he doesn’t care about beggars.

Why does this matter today?- The reason why it still matters today is because this story show everything that happens in life. It show how we have high points and also low points and it show how we try our hardest to get out of the low points some make it and some don't.

What relevance does this theme have for modern day heroes? The theme of the odyssey is that one man(odysseus) after war that wants to get back home to his wife(penelope) and son(telemachus). One way this has relevance in life is the story of castaway. A man who got stuck on a island after his plane that crashed and who was there for a few years and he wanted to do is to get back and see his wife. When he got he learned out that his wife was married again just like odysseus in the odyssey.

What modern day heroes reflect these characteristics? There is a lot heros with these traits like Spiderman, captain america and also james bond all of these men are willing to do anything to finish a mission or for captain america to finish a war just like odysseus who thought of the plan to end the war with the greeks.
