         <description><![CDATA[<div>The government in Athens and Sparta. Athens became a democracy in 500 B.C.E. They only aloud free meant to be citizens. None other then men were permitted to be citizens. Athens depended on trade. While Athens depended on trade&nbsp;<br><br><br>&nbsp;Sparta depended on slaves and the people around them. Kids around the age 7 were forced into the military.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The economy in Athens and Sparta. Sparta did not have enough land and food to grow so they depended on the slaves there to produce food. The neighboring regions became slaves. They were called the helots. They did not have coins. They had iron bars so it would be harder to steal. There were men who were free men and they would serve food to the military men when needed.&nbsp;<br><br><br>Athens depended on trade.  They traded there goods for coins. They had an agora and a agora is a market to buy food and clothes at. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In Athens, at the age if 18 men would start military training. The health in Athens was where good citizens had to have good health. Therefore in Athens book learning and physical health was very important. Unlike boys girls learned to help there mothers in there house hold. They never got taught to read or write. &nbsp;<br><br><br>In Sparta, The purpose of education was to produce capable men and women to fight for the city-state. Also, if the people did not think the baby was worthy enough, they had to leave infants on a hill for them to die. They valued disciple and strength. At the age of 7, they were forced into military/army school. AT the age of 20-30 they were fighting for Sparta and were working very hard. By the age 60, they were able to retire.  </div>]]></description>

         <title>Treatment of Woman and Slaves </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In Sparta, people lived the named life of spartan men. Spartan Slaves were called helots and they had to work for sparta. They were alose people who sparta conquered. They treated the slaves harshly being afraid they would revolt. Somer helots had some rights and some did not.<br>Helots who saved up enough money would buy there way to freedom.&nbsp;<br><br><br>In Athens, the women there could not inherit or own any property. They were not able to go anywhere or to any assemblies. Sometimes they were not even able to choose there husbands. They had to stay mostly inside the house. There is a lot of slaves in Athens. Poor people were able to own there own slave and only one. Most people were born into slavery. Others were forced into slavery from captivity wars.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>
