Convenience Sampling

Convenience sampling involves selecting participants who are readily available without any attempt to make the sample representative of a population. Convenience sampling would be used in this experiment and would produce a biased sample because only those people available at the time and location of this study will have a chance of being included in the sample. The data obtained can be misleading and the results of the study could not be generalised to the entire population. This can’t be overcome as we don’t have the time to find a wider range of participants.

Order effect

It is when a participant’s response relevant to the dependent variable is influenced by the specific order in which an experimental task is presented rather than the independent variable (Textbook p601) . This effect could be present in the experiment if the words in Sheet B were placed in a different recurring order than Sheet A. This variable is controlled as despite the experiment as the words included in Sheet A will be in the same descending order as Sheet B. The retrieval process will be completed through free recall and will be recalled in no particular order, this will ensure the order of words will have no effect on the DV
