My theme was "You don't appreciate something until its gone". I think this is the best theme for the book because Kirstan doesn't think about her past life after the Flu Pandemic until it was gone. Kirstan like all of us don't appreciate the little things in life, Like in Flint, Michigan they lived there everyday life pretty normally. They never thought much of what they had but since the city split from the Detroit water system. Now the water they get is filled with led and other deadly properties, that cause the people of Flint to reminisce on the days of clean water.

https://science.howstuffworks.com/nature/natural-disasters/tsunami5.htm
In 2004, Japan was struck with the largest earthquake in 40 years and one of the biggest tsunami in its history. It destroyed homes and lives around the area, and countless of relief efforts from other countries came poring in. This area in Japan was left with no electricity and running water for a long time and some didn't even have homes. This relates to the theme because they never really realized how good they had it until it was too late.

https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/berlin-wall
The Berlin Wall was a wall built to separate The GDR (German Democratic Republic or as we know it East Germany) from the Allied controlled West Germany. During WW2 The USSR invaded Germany and instead of liberating them they took control. Families were separated and even killed trying to reunite by attempting to cross the border to West Germany. This relates to my theme because Germans didn't appreciate what they had until they were forced into a more oppressive ruler.
