In the article "Denmark: A nation takes action", explains what happened in (1.)Denmark after Germany took over. (2.) The Danes actually planned to try and keep the Jews from being deported by hiding them (3.)Overall, we thought the plan worked because of the 7000 Jews, Nazis only got to 580. (4.)When the Danish church were told about the Germans plan they sent a letter describing how they would not tolerate that kind of behavior and it was the churches "duty to protest against such persecution"

In the article "Le Chambon", it features a small town village in Southern France. Though this was a small town community, these people were definitely upstanders. These were one of the few towns who would take care of refugees and about more than half were Jews. They would do this because they wanted to help and they didn't want to refuse to help them in any way. They would take care of them by providing them with the necessary items. Even if they knew the consequences, they still wanted to help them.

In the article "Protests in Germany" a group called The White Rose witnessed the treatment of the Jewish and wrote about both what they witnessed and their plan to overthrow the Nazis. Unfortunately they were found by the Nazis and were arrested and killed. A German aristocrat chose to be an upstander and spread the writings of The White Rose

The article "Bystanders at Hartheim Castle" features a small town in Mauthausen, Austria (near Hartheim castle). They witnessed one of the horrible events that happened during the Holocaust. Hartheim castle, a home for mentally handicapped children, was being converted into a slaughter house fit with gas chambers and ovens. The people in the surrounding town could tell both by the stench of the smoke, and the human remains littering the vicinity of the castle, what it was being used for. They were prompted with a decision to spread the truth of this facility and possibly put a stop to it, but they did not. A Nazi director threatened that anyone who shared these "rumors" would be put in a concentration camp. They sat in their homes sealing their windows at night to keep the smoke out, and stood by as over 18,000 people were murdered in Hartheim castle.

The article "A commandant 's view" gets a view from Franz Stangl a commandants of a camp. He talks about how he felt and thought about the camps at the time. He was just following the system, he didnt create the system but he didnt stop it either. He talks about how he became used to the work after a few months and how he drank to forget and how when he saw a slaughterhouse he thought of the camps back in poland, showing how he didnt see the victims as human beings.
